Synopsis

The story begins when high school student Kazuki Muto is killed one night saving a mysterious girl from a monster, only to wake up in his school dorm, believing it to have been a dream; however, he soon finds out that dream wasn't a dream at all when a giant serpentine monster attacks him and his sister. Tokiko Tsumura, the girl he saved, explains that the monster is a homunculus. Kazuki had been attacked and killed by it when he was rescuing her; however, she, feeling responsible for him, revived him by placing a Kakugane medallion in his chest, serving as a replacement heart.

The Kakugane, as Tokiko explains, is an alchemical device that, when activated, takes a certain form based on the Kakugane's user, forming a unique Buso Renkin. The Buso Renkin is the only thing that can destroy a homunculus monster. Using this, Kazuki creates his own Buso Renkin (the "Sunlight Heart," a huge lance). Along with Tokiko and her own Buso Renkin (the "Valkyrie Skirt," an execution scythe), Kazuki joins the fight against the homunculi and their master.

We all have those series. Which for some unknown reason we can't help to love. We know we shouldn't, we know it's not good. But we can't help but watch the series and be totally entranced by it. Buso Renkin is that anime for me. It's a totally predictable, cliche, crony shonen anime. It's nothing new, it literally brings nothing new to the table, but I just can't help but love this series.

Buso Renkin is your typically shonen experience. It's got a main character who is given a power by another and mysteriously keeps powering up and doesn't ever seem to read more

Busou Renkin is a story that takes many of its elements from other anime. You'll see elements of Fullmetal Alchemist, Ruroui Kenshin, Shakugan no Shana, Fate/Stay Night, and probably a bunch more. Though Busou Renkin was developed by the creator of Rurouni Kenshin, Nobuhiro Watsuki, it is not as epic as the story of Kenshin was. However, despite some of the obvious points of this series, Busou Renkin manages to uphold fairly well and be a relatively enjoying series.

Busou Renkin means Arms Alchemy. In this story, there are homunculi that are running about the land and its up to alchemic warriors, read more

EDIT: There is one thing i have to say. Watch the first three (or four) episodes, consisting of Papillon. If you enjoy them, continue watching. If you don't, stop watching. It's as simple as that.

The first three episodes is like the mini-arc going into the main arc, setting the scene, and making the expression known. If you do not enjoy the style (art, characters, all around) then you won't enjoy the rest. I'm not saying that it's all exactly like that, but it is enough to tell if you will like it or not.

This was a generally good anime. Though some of the aspects of read more

Busou Renkin is the very definition of what you would consider a typical battle shounen. Its an uninspired cliched show that brings absolutely nothing new to the genre at all. However, it takes a tried and true formula and executes it masterfully well.

STORY 7/10

There is nothing outstanding or unique about the story. It is a very basic cliched plotline. The protagonist gets accidentally caught up in a conflict between humans and monsters, and must fight to protect those that he cares about. The story is simple, it isnt deep or special in anyway. Its nothing more than a journey a boy takes to grow read more

Anime: Bleach
Both are about boys who meet a woman and gain the ability to fight in her world. Without giving too much away the story lines have similarities with character and plot development. Busou Renkin is however not as serious as Bleach, which is refreshing and also has a good end point.

Anime: Fullmetal Alchemist
Both series are about alchemists fighting homunculi

Anime: Fate/stay night
Though FSN is mainly about sorcerers and BR is about alchemy, they have a very similar feel to their storylines. The main characters in each are drawn into battles they don't seem to belong in starting with the appearance of a sort of 'warrior woman.' They both also have some romance thrown in, though I think this is played upon more in Busou Renkin.

Anime: D.Gray-man
Seems like your run-of-the-mill shounens at the starts but turns out to be something more.

though not similar by story or characters, but by the fact that both show you that villains don't have to be bad or evil.. there's always a good motive behind their actions

Anime: Kurokami The Animation
Both anime begin with male protagonists trying to save a girl only to have a his heart rip apart. They are later saved by the said girl using supernatural means and are dragged into a lot of fights. Both anime are also set in present day world.
