SynopsisThe story begins when high school student Kazuki Muto is killed one night saving a mysterious girl from a monster, only to wake up in his school dorm, believing it to have been a dream. However, he soon finds out that dream wasn't a dream at all when a giant serpentine monster attacks him and his sister. Tokiko Tsumura, the girl he saved, explains that the monster is a homunculus. Kazuki had been attacked and killed by it when he was rescuing her. However, she, feeling responsible for him, revived him by placing a Kakugane medallion in his chest, serving as a replacement heart.
The Kakugane, as Tokiko explains, is an alchemical device that, when activated, takes a certain form based on the Kakugane's user, forming a unique Buso Renkin. The Buso Renkin is the only thing that can destroy a homunculus monster. Using this, Kazuki creates his own Buso Renkin (the "Sunlight Heart", a huge lance). Along with Tokiko and her own Buso Renkin (the "Valkyrie Skirt", an execution scythe), Kazuki joins the fight against the homunculi and their master. |

We all have those series. Which for some unknown reason we can't help to love. We know we shouldn't, we know it's not good. But we can't help but watch the series and be totally entranced by it. Buso Renkin is that anime for me. It's a totally predictable, cliche, crony shonen anime. It's nothing new, it literally brings nothing new to the table, but I just can't help but love this series.
Buso Renkin is your typically shonen experience. It's got a main character who is given a power by another and mysteriously keeps powering up and doesn't ever seem to lose any of the battles he is in. This literally sums up Buso Renkin, it's fight after fight, power up after power up, but Kazuki doesn't ever seem to lose. Each episode for the most part does have some pretty humorous comedy in it. Just random outbursts by the characters ect...but it helps keep the action somewhat fresh. It's got some nice romance that develops along the way(I am a sucker for anything love related). One thing that was a let down was the action in this show. I have never been one to enjoy shonen's were it is just power ups and beat downs. There is one really amazing fight, where I can only imagine most of this anime's budget was spent. But the action isn't that good in my opinion.
Despite this the show is still incredibly enjoyable. If I had to attribute why this show is so enjoyable, I would have to say it's the chemistry. Everything comes together so well, and I would have to say this show's main success is the pacing. It lays everything down in front of the viewer in a very logical coherent path. Nothing is ever rushed. Despite Kazuki gaining as many power ups as he does, it never feels overwhelming. It never feels like he is always meant to win, or that he is over powered. It feels like he is just growing. The show allows time for comedy, but it never forces it. It doesn't add comedy in dramatic moments for the effect of comedy, it simple puts comedy in places where it belongs. Even the relationship that starts to develop between Kazuki and Tokiko isn't forced. You really get to see the chemistry between these two characters grow and you get the see the feelings manifest, something of which I did not expect to see in this anime.
The show's characters(Mainly Tokiko) also made me fall in love with this shows. While Kazuki isn't anything new in terms of characters, he certainly isn't bad. He is just a typical shonen good-guy. He wants to do what ever it takes to protect everyone around him, even if it means scarfing himself. However Tokiko is the real star of this show. She starts out, cold, brash, and filled with hatred. But by the end of the series she is, open, shy, and full of love to give. She truly goes through amazing development through the series. Most of it comes from being around Kazuki, and beginning to learn what it is to like to love and want to protect things dear to you. Now what made Tokiko so awesome in my eyes, to be blunt, was the fact that she was a badass. Screaming "I will rip out your guys" killing all the Homunculus in her sight, and to be honest, not to many people can sport a scar as hers and remain that sexy. Her personality and development just made her a truly enjoyable character.
At the end of the day, nothing changes with Buso Renkin though. It is still your predictable, cliche shonen series were the good guy always wins. This series brings nothing new to the table, but at the end of the day it's enjoyable. And that is all that really matters. So if you are looking for a good action anime(That mixes several anime concepts), with some very awesome characters, and a good mix of comedy and romance. Then I suggest you try Buso Renkin. read more

This is as good as neo shonen get. It's not too long, but not too short. Fuck Ichigo and Ed, Kazuki has his Kakugane on lock down. "I'LL SPLATTER...YOUR GUTS!"
This is an IIP- "Impossible is possible" anime. The story revolves around alchemy and although it is SUPER played out this anime does well of lacking straying from any comparisons to FMA Quite frankly the only good plot in ALL of Shonen Jump's manga turned anime.
The art is pretty great. What would you expect from Nobuhiro Watsuki? I'm amazed that Xebec ACTUALLY did great designs. The fight scenes are quick, but leave you wanting more. The final fight between two epic characters is so brilliantly colored and shaded that it leaft nothing to be desired. The only problem I have is that some characters look plain. Mahiro looks so stereotypical... But Papillon is such a fresh character that he makes up for it.
The BGM in this anime is a bit bad. It goes in at the moments when not needed. (Romantic music AFTER Kazuki talks to Tokiko about his feelings) The dubs for both the Japanese and English are great, but my complaint is Tokiko. Her mouth flaps at the weiderst times in both dubs. She's not even talking at some points. It IS Viz after all.
All the characters are here. The pervert, the fat guy, the tranvestite, the love sick loser, the ditz, the tsundere, etc. They aren't really original, but they do their job. Plus, this is the only anime where I was pairing up characters.
I did enjoy this anime and well worth the 60 bucks on both sets. I highly recommend it.
Pros:
- Great plot that moves fast and doesn't leave you hanging.
- Papillon is the most vibrant character in history.
Cons:
- The characters are a bit stereotypical.
This anime is out now by Viz Media. read more

Both series are about alchemists fighting homunculi
Both shows feature alchemy, though each has it's own take on what alchemy really is. Many might not find Busou Renkin quite up to par with Fullmetal Alchemist, but both shows are great in their own ways.
Nobuhiro Watsuki's newest anime is more like fullmetal then Rurouni Kenshin. Kazuki Mutou and Tokiko Tsumura fight homunculi with alchemic weapons. If you loved Rurouni Kenshin or Full metal alchemist then this is a must see
Others have made the recommendation, similar themes regarding life, some different looks at alchemy, and both pretty solid shounen.
Both animes center around alchemy. alchemy is portrayed and used differently and each show has its own ideas of what alchemy really is but the basics are very similar. in Busou Renkin alchemy is more secretive while in Full Metal Alchemist it is a well known power that is used by a special branch of the military. Full Metal Alchemist also has Homunculi which are basically the same in each anime besides how they were created. FMA is one of my favorites but they are both very good. if you like Busou Renkin then you will love FMA.
They both involve humunculi and alchemy, but Busou has a different setting being modern Japan. The main character loses his life at the beginning and must live off a metal object which gives him powers.
The story may not be as epic or on list of popularity like FMA, but if you want more alchemist vs humunculi, this one might do it. Did I mention the mentor is a dork? and it can be very strange for enemies, don't expect anything normal from those guys.
Both deal and center around alchemy
It's not entirely like FMA, but it does have Alchemy and Homunculi...You might wanna check it out x]
There are alchemist and homunculus both of them.
Both have characters who were facing death face-to-face, but were brought back to life by alchemy.
The series are actually very different. In comparison to FMA, in Busou Renkin you can actually bring dead to life.
However, both series use Alchemy as a fighting power and their enemies are homonculus. So if you simply want to see different version of Alchemy, feel free to check any of those shows.
Busou Renkin has as much action how much FullMetal Alchemist and also is very good.
Both are action shows about teenage alchemists who fight homunculi, both have a sense of comedy about them, and both feature ridiculous-yet-cool battles.
Both anime are in a world where alchemy is something real and dangerous ,where worriors are alchemists and they fight using alchemy.
Both series are about Alchemists using alchemy as weapons in fighting Homonculus
Both shows involve alchemy and a good amount of fighting as well as lovable characters

Both are about boys who meet a woman and gain the ability to fight in her world. Without giving too much away the story lines have similarities with character and plot development. Busou Renkin is however not as serious as Bleach, which is refreshing and also has a good end point.
Somehow the story is a lot alike.. a guy lives a peacfully life until a mysterious girl comes and gives him power, and then they start fighting monsters together with that girl..
they both have a male who meets a girl trys to save them then they end up joining her and get alot stronger then her to protect her its like the same thing busou is the like the same thing but shorter
They Both include weapons and the transformation of weapons.. i jst think their really alike.,, both are really good!
Hmm for me the plot are somewhat the same though Busou Renkin is much more sci-fi and modernized than bleach..but instead of zanpakutou Busou Renkin characters use kakuganes as weapon..
Boy gets weapon from girl. Girl is very mature and tries to keep to herself. Fighting off things that eat humans.
Both are about an ordinary guy turns to a super "hero" with the help of a strange girl, who later becomes his senpai and partner. Plots are similar.
Both these animes deal with a dude with spiritual powers and use big huge swords to battle demons, ghosts,Shimigamis or humunculouse,Kurosaki Ichigo battles demons while Kazuki muto battles humunculouse
Mutou Kazuki and Kurosaki Ichigo are pretty much twins, both extremely stubborn and willing to sacrifice themselves for the sake of others. Both stories start in pretty much the same way. The Arms Alchemy is also immensely similar to the Zanpakutous that the Shinigamis wield, as they both are unique to the user and evolve not only the weapon but the users as well, in several instances.
Even if takes your life, you will never give up, you will never back down, you will never let down the ones who believe in you. You will keep going forward! You will fight for the world, for your friends and even for those you haven't met and probably never would. You belive that's the right thing to do and it really is!
Both Busou Renkin and Bleach are created on that same theme. The main characters - Mutou Kazuki and Kurosaki Ichigo, are first thinking about others and then about themselves. But is it an advantage to be so selfless, to care more about the world that about yourself? Who knows? But if you, too, think that the world we live in is worth saving, you must watch these two anime!
In terms of character:
Tokiko is similar to Rukia. They both have feelings for the main male character who they work work and they don't want to admit to it.
Kazuki is similar to Ichigo. They both want to help people and wouldn't be what they are now if the male female character hadn't appeared in their lifes.
Gōta is similar to Renji. They both care for the main female character and don't get on well with main male character however they will work with them if needed.
In terms of weapons:
Buso Renkin's kakugane = Bleach's zanpakutō. They are just simple weapons but then can transform.
The storyline is also similar at times.
Both have male main characters that start out as normal teenagers until they meet a mysterious girl who gives them new powers. There are also supernatural weapons, strange monsters and lots of fighting.
Busou Renkin is one of the beat anime i seen...Oay you right you want to know the anime!?
OK its just like bleach because a normal school boy turns into a hero bcause his life was changed by a girl both the same...an the both of the boy wanna potect people with thir life ^^ very good!!!
100%
Bleach has a lot of action in it. They are very similar in aspects of being a normal teenage boy until a female interferes and ends up granting them power and changing their lives forever. It also has the comedy, and dark evil plot likeness that Busou Renkin did. Except Bleach is a lot more serious and longer.
Both have a super powerful girl that ends up being fighting partners with regular human guys who have big ideas about the world. Both Ichgo and Kazuki want to save the whole world. also there is a little spazy character in each the ends up being of great help.
