The lack of fandom surrounding Hunter X Hunter is somewhat enigmatic to me. It is a title that, by all rights, should have a huge buzz behind it. Not only is Hunter X Hunter the work of Yoshihiro Togashi, the creator of Yu Yu Hakusho, but it is also far superior to other currently running big-hype titles, the most prominent of which is Naruto. It manages to be enormously entertaining through its unique concoction of animation, characterization, and plot, without resorting to the cliches that have all too often ruined a seemingly novel show of a similar vein. And yet Hunter X Hunter remains little read more

This is my favorite Shonen series of all time. There.
Disclaimer: I did watch the remake to the first arc, when it came out, before I watched this.

"TL;DR" located in the bottom.

The story in its core is a pretty generic one, but thanks to some really good elements, the show gets personality.
The show's about a kid named Gon who grew up on an island isolated from the industrialized world.
One day a very strange customer, not from the island came for the main character's rescue, and his name was Kite.
Gon had walked into a Foxbear's territory and fell. Kite was looking for all throughout the world read more

Whether it is music, movies, or politics, there is always conflict and highly differing opinions from one generation to the next. So is the case with Hunter X Hunter, that my generation felt was a shitty, inferior version of Yu Yu Hakusho, and young anime fans feel is the greatest shonen ever! This generational difference was the subject of the classic novel Fathers and Sons by Turgenev, so allow me to play the anime Turgenev and examine the strange case of Hunter X Hunter.

Anime: Yuu☆Yuu☆Hakusho
Both created by Yoshihiro Togashi. Shounen genre and involves the main characters discovering a whole new world outside of what they knew.

Anime: Naruto
Both of these series follow adolescents. The main characters both follow a set goal where each is trying to prove something to someone. The character development is superb and goes into exquisite detail for everyone. Both series have specific powers or abilities that each character maintains. Action scenes are also extremely intense and well animated.

Anime: One Piece
Just as One Piece,Hunter x hunter is a pretty long shounen anime, both series can be really funny at times ,you will never get bored and always want to see the next episode, both anime have some awesome fights and also the characters are very likable,if you enjoy one of this anime you will most probably like the other one too.

Anime: The Law of Ueki
In both series the main chars are actually weaker than their opponents and they win with pure strategy.

Anime: Rekka no Honoo
Both anime involve a group of friends traveling together and engaging in independent fights, as well as tournament-style fights. They are both great series, especially for martial arts lovers. Both have interesting characters, each with their purpose for fighting, a mysterious group of antagonists, and a lot of fun to watch.

Anime: Death Note
Brilliant minds. Life and death situations. Story gets darker just as Death Note does.
