This is my favorite Shonen series of all time, with good reason. Nonetheless, I'll try to justify it with this review.

"TL;DR" located in the bottom.

The story in its core is a pretty generic one, almost missing something, but thanks to some really good elements, the show gets personality.
The show's about a kid named Gon who grew up on an island isolated from the industrialized world.

One day a very strange customer, not from the island came for the main character's rescue, his name was Gon's rescue, as Gon had walked into a Foxbear's territory and fell. Kite was looking for all throughout the world for his read more

First off, for the sake of simplicity I'm going to cover all four series (one TV series and three OVAs) in one review, since they actually form a single continuous story.

Generally I approach shounen titles with care, since many of them strike me as a bit shallow and vacuous. Hunter X Hunter, however, sounded quite interesting. On the strength of one solitary review, I gave it a watch.

I'll begin with a brief summary: Hunter X Hunter revolves around a ten-ish year old boy named Gon who discovers that his permanently absentee father, Ging, is, in fact, one of the most famous and respected Hunters read more

Hunter X Hunter is a Shonen adventure series, yes, but there´s actually a lot that differs from your typical shonen-show. In a good way. I´ll explain why gradually through the review, let´s begin.

The story is good, but not really anything mind breaking. It´s about Gon, a 12 year old boy, trying to become a hunter so he can find his father who left him as a child. A hunter is basically a person with a hunters license, and the concept of hunting can be almost anything. As long as you complete the difficult and deadly Hunters exam and get your license you can do whatever read more

Hunter x Hunter is your typical Shounen, Action, Adventure anime with the usual plot-devices but with a pretty unique concept of “hunting”. This series may not adrenaline filled action sequences but it is still highly enjoyable, with plenty of tension.

HxH start of about skilled individuals trying to become professional hunters for their own individual reasons. The story follows a young boy (Gon Freaks) on his quest to become hunter, in order to find his hunter dad. The beginning is just about candidates undergoing treacherous tasks and challenges, whilst forming bonds during the long hunter exam. Some, including me, may be bored by the lackluster beginning read more

Both of these series follow adolescents. The main characters both follow a set goal where each is trying to prove something to someone. The character development is superb and goes into exquisite detail for everyone. Both series have specific powers or abilities that each character maintains. Action scenes are also extremely intense and well animated.

Both created by Yoshihiro Togashi. Shounen genre and involves the main characters discovering a whole new world outside of what they knew.
Just as One Piece,Hunter x hunter is a pretty long shounen anime, both series can be really funny at times ,you will never get bored and always want to see the next episode, both anime have some awesome fights and also the characters are very likable,if you enjoy one of this anime you will most probably like the other one too.

In both series the main chars are actually weaker than their opponents and they win with pure strategy.
Both anime involve a group of friends traveling together and engaging in independent fights, as well as tournament-style fights. They are both great series, especially for martial arts lovers. Both have interesting characters, each with their purpose for fighting, a mysterious group of antagonists, and a lot of fun to watch.

Brilliant minds. Life and death situations. Story gets darker just as Death Note does.
