SynopsisFujioka Haruhi won a scholarship to attend Ouran High, a school reserved for the rich and prestigious. Despite what other students may think of her, Haruhi cares little for physical appearances or the fact that she's a commoner. Unfortunately for Haruhi, her high school days took a turn when she stumbled upon the Host Club, a group of guys who use their specific traits and charms to entertain the women of Ouran High. Even worse was that Haruhi had accidentally broken an 8 million yen vase in the club. Unable to repay her debt with money, Haruhi found herself with no choice but to work for the Host Club, becoming a male host herself. Based on the manga by Hatori Bisco. |

“Only those with excellent social standing and those from filthy rich families are lucky enough to spend their time here, at the elite private school Ouran Academy. The Ouran Host Club is where the school’s handsomest boys with too much time on their hands entertain young ladies who also have way too much time on their hands. Just think of it as Ouran Academy’s elegant playground for the super rich and beautiful.”
Oh dear lord another banal shoujo, I can already hear the fan girls squealing.
However shallow and girly these few lines may seem though, it actually isn’t what I expected it to be. I expected it to be another clichéd romcom, with an idiotic female lead, ridiculously convenient unrealistic romantic situations and six arrogant rich boys who could be easily replaced by Zac Efron and still get the same level of fandom. Well, I was right about the stupid romcom bit, because it is stupid. It is random, crazy and fully retarded. But this isn’t necessarily a bad thing with this anime.
Haruhi Fujioka is a scholarship student at Ouran, the female lead in this reverse harem. But no way is she your typical ditzy, naïve brain-dead shoujo heroine: she is blunt, indifferent and smart; a very unique and rare combination in female characters. She doesn’t care about gender or looks, and because of this the Host Club mistakes her as a guy at first. That doesn’t mean she’s annoyingly cool and collected since she also has her moments of fits of rage and times when she is conned by the Host Club.
Anyway, by accidentally breaking a ¥8,000,000 (approx $80,000/£50,000) vase she is forced to cross dress as a male and join the Host Club to pay off her debt and I guess that’s where all the insanity begins. Yeah…not the best story line in the world, nor the most original. But I always believe that it’s not the story line that pulls off an anime but the execution, which I must say has been done so well it could be classed as genius.
So why exactly is it one of the best shoujo anime in the industry? Well, for starters it mocks everything about a shoujo anime. Every host member is a specific “type” that compliments their personality trait, a collection of bishounen stereotypes you would find in almost every anime targeted at a female audience.
There’s Hunny; “The Boy Lolita”. The oldest out of them all but the most babyish, hence the Lolita title. He carries a stuffed pink bunny, loves sweets and takes naps. An adorable, cute, loveable little guy - and he knows it.
Mori; “The Silent, Stoic Type”. Not much can be said about him as it’s pretty much covered in his title. He only gets about one line per episode, but even then can make quite an impression.
Hikaru and Kaoru, commonly known as the Hitachiin Brothers, “The Little Devil Types”. This twisted pair loves to put on a twincest yaoi act for their guests, which could either be a turn off for some people or a complete laugh fest for others.
Kyouya; “The Cool Type”, Vice President of the Host Club. The ever cold and calculating behind-the-scenes manager who’s all about the gain. He’s the mastermind behind the Host Club and makes out that he’s only in it for himself, and his own personal merit. Obviously he wears glasses.
And then there’s Tamaki; “The Princely Type” and the Host Club’s “King”. Half French and half Japanese, conveniently inherited the blonde hair gene. He’s generally narcissistic, a loud cry-baby, stupid, spazzes out frequently, likes to fantasize about Haruhi, has an obsession with the “Commoner” lifestyle…I think you get the picture.
Think you’ve seen it before?
However, under the surfaces of the stereotypes there is always something more to them. Each character is explained to you, with at least one episode dedicated to each of them. Even the zany idiotic Tamaki and the shady Hitachiin twins has some substance in them.
Another way the anime mocks itself is the situations the characters get themselves into. They have the most cliché scenes and episodes yet it doesn’t make the viewer give an annoyed sigh at the unoriginality presented before them. Instead, it makes them go into hysterics at the ingenious direction and the turn around of the scene that could’ve been a fail.
OHSHC is targeted more at anime fans though it’s not a necessary requirement to enjoy the show. It does help to know some terms such as harem/shoujo/otaku/shota/lolita/cosplaying /moé/yakuza before going into it as it makes it all the more amusing.
This isn’t all just random fun though. There are some episodes that has the drama. Normally when a comedy tries to get all serious it goes downhill. But guess what? IT WORKS. There’s only a handful of these episodes which are inserted here and there instead of making the first half funny and the second half dramatic; which is probably why it works. It’s also odd at how at times they can make it quite heart-warming and manages to play with your emotions a little.
For the sound, I’ll start with the voice acting. I’ve watched this both in subbed and dubbed version and honestly I have to give it a hand to the English voice actors. Almost the whole of the Fullmetal Alchemist cast is in this, pretty much playing their parallel roles. Naturally I was skeptic at first when I did find this piece of information out as I didn’t want the Ouran characters to sound exactly the same as the FMA ones. I am sorry I ever doubted them. Every single one of them did an excellent job in portraying their Ouran characters, the voices did not carry any nostalgia of FMA - in fact if I hadn’t looked up the actors beforehand I would have never had guessed. My honourable mention has to go to Caitlin Glass, who played Haruhi Fujioka. It isn’t easy playing such an unusual female character, especially one as blunt and supposedly boring as her, however Caitlin does the character justice. Haruhi did come across as tomboyish and indifferent, in my opinion, no one could’ve done a better job. I don’t think expressing emotion was an issue in this either, as they all - especially Vic Mignogna who played Tamaki Suoh - was absolutely brilliant in this. Definitely one of the best dubs I’ve seen.
As for the OP song “Sakura Kiss”, I’m just going to say it: it sucks. I really didn’t think it was necessary to translate it to English either. It was already bad in Japanese but just damn awful in English. Being the first thing that you see, it does put some people off when they are suddenly attacked by roses and the ultra-cheesy song but once you’re past that it’s all good. The ending song is a little better, but once again got killed by the English translation.
Other themes throughout the show are superb; the main music being classical and lots of violin orchestral instrumentals.
Like I said; lots of roses. They like to throw petals everywhere; chuck it at your face, let it spiral out from behind Kyouya, in the garden whilst Tamaki and Haruhi are running through it, aw, what the heck, let Kyouya paint a giant rose! Could’ve been a sub-genre if you ask me. The art is fairly bright, with pink being the primary colour used but it fits the show well. The character designs are unrealistic, what with every single guy being 5ft 11, but hey it’s a shoujo. Expect unrealistically tall and handsome men.
Despite what I just said I would also recommend this to the male and tomboy population without a second thought. Sure, there’s a lot of man-service but its hysterically funny. And not just in one way either. One tactic they used were the signs that appears on the screen every once in a while that delivers a punch line or some witty comment. So the comedy used here is a wide range, and not just one type, therefore the jokes never gets stale.
After watching the first episode you can pretty much pick any random episode, watch it and still enjoy to its full capacity. All episodes are unrelated, and apart from the introduction to the premise of the anime in the first episode there is no story. Every episode has it’s own little story topped with crazy shenanigans and hilarious content. Characterization is brilliant. Everyone ends up with a favourite host since there is quite a broad variety to suit most people’s tastes. Even the supporting cast is superb; from the otaku-crazed manager Renge to the Yakuza awkward Kasanoda. You have all sorts of characters here: gays, lesbians, transvestites, straights, otakus, moé fans - you name it. Also, if you read the manga version of this afterwards (or before) it makes you appreciate the anime adaptation ten fold - I would even go as far to say the anime is on par with the manga, if not exceeds it.
Ouran doesn’t take itself seriously. It knows it’s another romantic comedy. It knows it has cliché after cliché after cliché. It knows it’s fully retarded. It doesn’t try to shy away from these facts and pretend to be something else. No way. It embraces these things yet still remains as charming as ever. They know how to shift the mood; with seventy percent of the time having you in fits of laughter and the other thirty percent making you experience all sorts of emotions: bewilderment, confusion, sad, excited; heck, it can even move you at times.
So Ladies and Gentlemen and everything in between, what are you waiting for? The Host Club is eagerly waiting for your arrival, in a ridiculously insane world full of cosplaying handsome men, extravagant balls and…bananas. Yeah…there’s a lot of that. Don’t ask why though, it’s just another one of this crazy anime obsession. read more

Character(s) & Their Development
Every character is based with a sterotype near the beginning of the series. The real question though is if the characters actually grow out of their set roles. After watching the whole series that's both a yes and a no. It all comes down to the fact that the manga is still going and the characters are still maturing in that format; thus, they can only grow so far in the anime without making it a new story entirely. Sure, they stay towards their first impressions but, there are a handful of episodes that explain each Host Club member and their reasoning behind attitude, outlook, and for joining the club in the first place.
A keen example is Tamaki and his feelings for Haruhi. In the beginning, he takes on a father role towards her and the audience is made to believe that this is only part of his nature; however, the viewers should realize that this is because of the feelings he holds for her. Even Tamaki doesn't understand it and in episode twenty-three is forced to question it. He probably can't comprehend his feelings in the end, but he seems to establish some understanding towards Haruhi. Really, characters do grow but they tend to have done a lot of growing before the show was established, and quite a few past experiences are explained through-out the episodes. Either way, the audience is given the chance to fall in love with the characters before they begin to change, which adds a nice and smooth transition.
Animation
I've found people complain at the lack of the details made towards the characters themselves. Then again, how much detail do you want on a character that's about to turn chibi on your ass? Seriously, the animators did a wonderful job at finding a keen balance between common and glorious so that when a touching moment is needed, the characters have that necessary lovely animation & while during the hyper-active moments, the characters are bouncy and have a jelly-like movement.
One thing that caught my attention after reviewing certain episodes was how detailed the background could be. I hadn't noticed it on the first run through due to how into the show I was; however, if you pay attention, you really notice how wealthy the animators attempted to make the school look. Look at the ceilings and the inscriptions into it, that's pretty damn detailed to me.
Music
I was iffy about the music in the beginning. Once I heard the first line of the opening, Sakura Kiss, I felt the catchiness; however, after listening to the whole thing I wasn't direly impressed. The ending song, Shissou, I didn't like at all. It just sounded like normal Japanese rock. I was disappointed even more when I found LAST ALLIANCE was the band who preformed it because they could have done a lot better.
Regardless, I gave the music a chance and got a copy of the available soundtracks. While watching the show I found the melody coordinated with many places perfectly, surely in the Ouran world the music full of rich violins, playful piano, and elegant harp was a match made in heaven. In it’s own way everything works... but that ending song.
Dubbing/Subbing
Since there is no dubbing released, I can't comment on that; however, the subtitles by Lunar Anime provided on their fansub were wonderfully done. Generally, I don't like to comment on subtitles because what's there to say, but what I liked was how many notes were provided to get said joke. It was also produced very nicely for the English audience.
Overall
Simply, Ouran High School Host Club is just a fun old time. It's got the wackiness to pull you into a fit of giggles, but at the same time enough character development to move along with a pretty random plot. I was going to skip this series entirely because I tend to avoid popular shows now-a-days; however, in the end I'm glad I didn't. This was certainly worth my time and I guarantee it's worth yours, too. It's hard to find a character or a part that you plainly didn't like. So, unless you're extremely nit-picky, then there shouldn't be a problem to enjoy this anime.
There are lots of laughs and pretty boys waiting for you at the Host Club so what are you reading this review for? read more

Both have the essence of comedy and romance, and they have a similarity of the story outline which held in school with rich and famous people. Also the similarity of some characters is a bit matched, and surely both will give laughter at the end.
Both of these deal with a specific group of high school kids and strangely enough their main protagonists are both "poverish", young girls!! Many similarities, yet so many differences, but somehow they're one in the same! Fun, hilarity, and drama are packed with the complicated and interesting lives of each character. And as it always is in animes like this, almost every character is loveable in their very own special way.
Both are closely similar... Hikari, a talented girl raised under a normal family, attends a prestigious and elite school. She gets to be a member of a special class of rich and bright students who goof and fool around. Ouran is just like that too...
Both have a club consisting of rich, beautiful and talented students. The main girl from both series are the oddballs out as far as money is concerned. The romance situations have the main guy in love with the main girl who doesn't even take notice. The comedy is about equal, though in my opinion, I found SA more comical.
Having seen one of the two, it's impossible to see the other without being constantly reminded of the first.
Special A and Ouran Host Club have the same general feel. Each features a group of distinct characters with slight focus on the relationships between the male and female leads. If you like the comedic adventures and exaggerated animation style of Ouran, Special A is certainly worth a try.
I believe they have some similarities in the fact that there is this "elite" group in school to which only a few are allowed. And there is this display of wealthiness from a couple of its members, it shows in the kind of activities they make. A lot of bishounen running around too, with wicked father or mother figures. I suppose these are common traits in anime that are mostly developed in school. Also the wealthiest boy , or at least the one that shines the most, is in love with a girl of humble origins who is into studying and has a strong personality.
School settings with plenty of romance and humor to go around. Main characters are all funny as hell and give off good feelings.
Both revolve around a prestegious group of students and most of them are extremally wealthy. They both have the same type of comedy and are both very good animes if your looking to just relax and laugh. Also I think if you like HaruhixTamaki, you'll love HikarixKei
First, both are absolutely different from their manga counterparts. Second, both involve an elite group of students, be they the best looking ones (Ouran), or the top students (Special A). Third, both are drop dead hilarious. Finally, both involve the leading member of the group (Kei and Suou) liking an extremely dense female member of the group (Hikari and Haruhi).
Well Both have Story About School and special class and both have story about special class love
They both depict the lives of students in highly exclusive schools. There were a lot of fun moments in both, though I find Ouran to be far superior in almost every aspect.
The atmosphere of Ouran High and Special A are the same with those students who enjoy themselves staying in a luxurious room and leisurely spend their days are very much similar. Though Ouran High is much more comedic than special A, still I could say that if you liked Ouran High there's a high possibility that you would also like Special A.
Both great cute Anime where the girl is not really a push over and the guys aren't jerks!! Very funny, great characters.
Both have a comedy genre which makes them both fun to watch.Random things appear all the time and you can't help but love all the characters
Well firstly, both are shoujo comedy school slice-of-life anime. both shows the dramas of each member of a special group of friends. ouran is romantic in that the club is set up to entertain women, whilst special is romance in the sense that most of the characters have their own love story and pair up. however, both have similar atmospheres. ouran's comedy is better, but special a still has it's fair share. they even end nearly the same!! many scenes reminded me of the other.
Speical A has the a bunch of Rich Kids doing what they do best, just like in Ouran. It also has really great characters like Ouran, but what makes this fancy is that it follows the romantica story of each character. It will make you laugh and brigten up your day when you are feeling down.
well..its both about school and a special club..in OHHC it has host club..while in special a it has this special class for top7 student..i found some episode similar in some ways..like in the last episode..where tamaki is going to france while kei is going to ??(the main branch of takashima)..it is both comedy..and emotional in some episode but more on in comedy..
Is basic on almost the same place, but what is different is that we don't know the true result of who loves who =P
They are both about a group of high school students in a 'club' of some sort. (Host Club for Ouran and selective students for Special A) The school is both for rich kids with the main character in both being female, being a commoner but still getting into the school anyway. The female main is also every smart in both of them, S.A 2nd in school and Haruhi top of grade. They also both have love problems within their group. Not to mention they are both funny with those hilarious signs.
The story is kinda similar.
If you liked Ouran you willl love "special A",Both are romantic comedys, about an Average girl who acts more like a boy, hanging out with rich people in a special class/club.
I found the both Anime to be very similiar, both are talking about school life, each of the Anime are focusing the school life on Private Groups that the main characters take part in, While Ouran High School talks about a school of rich people and a private Host Club, Special A talks about rich people that are in the private special group of the smartest students.. xD make sure you watch them both!
In both anime's there are elite class students and one normal (commoner) person, romance between main characters, great humor, related to school and both have 7 friend's brought together.
Both are about a group of people that have gathered together. The leader of both anime likes the protagonist .They are both romantic comedies and are shoujo .There are also a similarity in characters,Tamaki from Ouran is like Tadashi from SA,Kyouya from Ouran is like Kei from SA,Haruhi from Ouran is like Jun from SA,Takeshi(Mori-Sempai) from Ouran is like Ryuu from SA.Both shows also have a pair of twins,Hikaru and Kaoru (both Boys)from Ouran and Jun and Megumi(One boy one girl) from SA.Another suprise is that both groups consists of 7 people. Also in both shows only the protagonists are not rich.So mch similarity in both shows but they both develop in different ways.Still i liked both so why wont you?
They're similar in a lot of ways, also the characters relate to each other a lot.
Same situation, one commoner and a bunch of close rich friends in a really prestigious school. the guy that likes her looks a lot like tamaki. It's also really funny and sweet.
Special A and Ouran High School Host Club are both shoujo comedies that center around a somewhat special group of high school students. In Special A this group is an elite class of the best students in school while in Ouran its a "host club". Still, the characters in both groups are eerily similar; in both groups you have a perfect male (lead), a cool reserved character, a cute character and a guy who appears to be a dummy.
Also both animes (being shoujo) center around a very clueless (but strong) heroine. Both shows have a lot of silly comedy. The character designs are alike. Overall both animes have the same feel, so I think that fans of one of them will like the other.
Ouran is a really funny anime! Every character is special in itself. and the same goes for SA. but Ouran has more individually gone into each character.
Well, both anime are really awesome.
Both are comedy, romance, school life, shoujo..
Both have a main female char that is 'poor' but talented and goes in a special elite school/class..
Both series have a extremly good char design, both can be funny, both can be romantic.. Both have characters really good definited.~
I suggest to watch both.. believe me, both worth it! :3
Ouran Host club and Special A have a similar mood going...
both deal with some high school for the rich n a normal talented
young girl that somehow gets caught up with a certain group/club
of the elite...even though they both have their slight differences...
they're both romantic comedies that are completely watchable^^
Both Ouran High School Host & Special A have a student, which is the main character, who is attending an elite school & is an oddball who does not fit in well when it comes to money. Haruhi from OHSHC & Hikari from Special A are both very dense when it comes to love & they do not realize that Tamaki [OHSHC] & Kei [S.A.] love them. They also share a couple of the same episodes, [I hope I don't ruin this for you guys] including the time when the Host Club & Special A visited the main character's house. Coincidentally, the Host Club & Special A both have seven members, including Haruhi & Hikari. Both are also comedies and I enjoyed watching every episode of both series. All in all, if you have watched one of the two, I recommend you watch the other. OURAN HIGH SCHOOL HOST CLUB & SPECIAL A ROCK ! (:
If you liked Ouran Host Club, then you will surely appreciate Special A, a mix of love, comedy, good looking and rich guys, who will capture your heart! Strongly recommended.
initial character design is very similar however developement more unexpected i would recomend watching ouran high first as SA goes as far as to openly spoof ouran thats how close they are please watch one if you have watched the other
they are very similar... characters, humor... Host Club is more funny, special A is cuter ^^
If you like something funny like Ouran High School Host Club than you might as well like Speacial A!These two manga/anime are the best comedy I seen yet. They also have a little romance in them. But mostly comedy. So atch it you might find yourself laughing before you know it!!!
Both Have Hilarious Characters
Both are romance
Great Story/Plot
Both are in special High Class schools
The story revloves around elite high school students. If Ouran revolves around rich characters, S.A revolves around the intelligent students. They are packed with comedy but if Ouran is more of a slice of life genre, S.A is more of a romance anime. They way how both stories end is similar.
Both about school life and its about the girl with her rich friends.
Special A seems like a copy of Ouran High School Host Club that is not superior to Ouran High School Host Club. But if you are still looking for a humourous anime to watch that is similar to Ouran High School Host Club, try Special A.
Romance, school, slice of life, comedy, a good series ^^
These both have romance and comedy at prestigious school clubs
Special A = Ouran High School Host Club + School Rumble
Pompous, rich and good-looking people that can do anything and everything to perfection and are clearly superior to all humans and even posses hearts of gold.... check.... Male lead in love with the totally adorable and equally dense and clueless female lead who doesn't notice his feelings even if slapped in the face with them..... check.... ^^
+All 3 are fantastic series
Both focus around school life, and are romantic and funny in their own way :)
You'll love them both.
these tow are too similar to each other .. both talks about 7 students .. the main girl is poor and while the rest are rich .. and a lot of similar situations ..
They both take place with a school that houses a prestigous group. Both are a comedy and both have a similar feel. The animation in each series is unique and beautiful with great color.
Both are highly recommended.
Special A and Ouran High School Host club are very similar in storyline. Both are Romance+ Comedy animes and the endings are very similar because in both the girl and the boy jump off something (Clock tower + Bridge). The build-up is also fairly similar as the girl is clueless that the guy(s) like her.
Both anime have girls of low social classes attending a prestigious school, and both anime are LOADED with comedy! As far as length goes, they have almost the same amount of episodes.
Both involve a group of elite rich kids who go about their daily lives. Each have more than a daily dose of comedy (chibis galore, everyone! ^^) and a little romance (Special A much more so than Ouran). All the characters are also made out to be extremely attractive, and often have moments where they are surrounded by roses (Ouran) or doilies( Special A) to promote this sort of appeal.(There's also quite a bit of squealing and fangirling among the background characters in both. 0.0) We also get to see some of the hardships of each character's past or current homelives in both. There's a lot of differences of course, but the only big differences are that 1) The main male lead is much, much smarter and moe serious than the main female lead in Special A, wheras it's reversed in Ouran. In fact, Hikari is pretty much the female version of Tamaki. ^^ and 2) There's much more drama in special A than in Ouran.
These two series are almost one in the same. Had the characters in Special A looked like the cast of Ouran I would've been fooled completely into thinking there was a season two of OHSHC. If you like Special A, there's no doubt you will love Ouran.

It's a Comedy / High School / Love story that is touching funny and beautiful story that centers around the sad pasts of the characters. I highly Recommend Fruits Basket if you loved Ouran.
Both anime center around a lovable girl who is surrounded by a bunch of bishies (hot guys). Both also has a lot of sweet and comedic moments that will tug at your heartstring and make you laugh out loud. All in all, both are great anime with a list of characters that you can't possibly hate.
Both these anime are in a high school setting and are known as reverse harem (one girl amongst many guys). Each individual character have their own conflicts they must overcome. Hilarious funny moments as well.
If you liked Fruits Basket, then you're gonna love OHSHC :D Both are fantastic animes with great humor.
Contains similar amount of cute, comedy, sugary sweet and sometimes even a taste of drama. Characters are all likable, without any significant villian, plus both are full of attractive guys, a huge eyed female protagonist, episodic events and most of all, a feel-good factor
Momiji and Honey-Senpai are voiced by the same voice actress, the characters are cute and there are sorta love triangles if you look hard enough
The most obvious is the use of the same voice actor (Japanese): Momiji = Honey. Ouran is actually a series that mocks a lot of stereotypes that male characters are put in, especially in shoujo series. While there are several references that can be drawn throughout the anime-verse, there are several than can be seen in Fruits Basket alone; and the Momiji-Honey connection is the most obvious, hence the use of the same VA. Not to mention both are hilarious in their own right with integrated moments of seriousness to show and advance plot.
Fruits Basket is also a sweet, cheery anime but with a very big dose of heart. Both anime have wonderfully endearing characters and are well written and very funny.
Both reverse harem, with plenty of humor and a sweet feeling left after watching an episode.
These two shojos are the best of their genre. I'm not usually a shojo fan, but I had to sidestep and make a recommendation for them. If you like Ouran High School because of its "cuteness" especially the relationship between Tamaki and Haruhi (or even Haruhi and Kaoru), then you definitely like Fruits Basket because it has the same types interconnected relationships.
Both follow a lighthearted storyline with endearing and memorable characters and lots of humorous scenes.
They both show a girl surrounded by a bunch of boys and trying to help . The characters are funny and the scenes hilarious . They both have their originality and quirk . If you liked Fruits Basket , there is no way you won't like Host Club !!
Both anime feature an arena of guy characters that each separately fall squarely into one of the typical 'categories' of anime guy characters (appealing to people with different preferences), and they surround a female main character
The comic moments are very alike, biggest difference between them is that Ouran High school Host club doesn't have all the drama Furuba does.
Both of these anime have female main characters that are surrounded by guys. In each the main female is oblivious to love and has a one track mind. They are the same story each with its own twist.
Very similar style of humor and also has a lot of good looking cool/nice guys.
Both are romantic/comedy series' are set in highschool where a somewhat loner female character gets thrown into a strange situation with a group a guys.
same kind of cute girl with crazy affectionate guys, but haruhi fujioka is a bit edgier than tohru honda
Both of these Anime's are completely awsome and two of the best Anime's I've ever seen. They are both reverse harem full of comedy and romance that will make you laugh and sometimes cringe. Also Momiji and Honey are voiced by the same voice actor!
Fruits Basket is another romance/comedy anime that has a lot of funny parts and interesting characters. I think that if you enjoy Ouran that Fruits Basket would be right up your alley as well.
The story line is not very similat but they are both funny, and about a girl down on her luck. You will truley enjoy this anime. If you can't believe it the just watch the first ep and see for your self.
The Humor and the vibe it gives off just feels so close and theres the unspoken love the hilarious moments and the fact that I ROFL for both is something.
Both are hilariously related with a reverse harem twist. One heroine surrounded by gorgeous bishounen! Not only that, they tell of a story wherein the heroine gives off an effect to each one of those gorgeous bishounen.
Note:
they DO have a storyline... they don't just go around in circles. That's why they're awesome to watch!
Both of these series have a similar sense of humor and kind of reverse-harems.
Lots of cute boys of varying types inhabit both series, plus the main characters are both somewhat down-to-earth girls in odd situations.
Very similar characters and even the character design and personailities are very similar. Also it has that lighthearted atmosphere and then it has its sad tragic moments. Although in my opinion Fruits Basket has more tradgedy in it and made me cry, lol. I think both are extremley excellent anime's they are like twins or not so distant cousins. Fruits Basket made me cry out of sadness while Ouran made me cry out of laughter. Both anime's are very funny but Ouran has that one step more towards comedy and Fruits Basket one step towards the tragic. Both completley diffrent story lines!
It is also a romance anime, but with comedy. Its very fun to watch.
Both are good romance/comedy animes.
They are both cute, crazy animes...they are all worth watching. These animes are suitable for all ages
A LOT of the characters are really similar. For example, Hani likes to eat cake, sweet things, doesn't look his age, has blonde hair, is really cute, and has usa-chan. Momiji is possessed by the rabbit zodiac spirit, doesn't look his age, has blonde hair, likes sweet things, and is really cute. That's the most similar, but there are other things too! It's a reallly cute anime.
-bishonen (pretty boys)
tamaki = yuki (prince)
honey = momiji (lolito)
haruhi = tohru
Ouran High School Host Club and Fruits Basket are two anime definitely worth watching. Aside from being similar in terms of being a reverse harem, both of these anime will surely keep you on your seat with their light-hearted comedy and romance.
cuz they both have love and comedy in them
1 female protagonist with bunch of bishounens around. But that's not all! You will also get some humorous moments, nice drawing/graphics and some more serious and dramatic moments in the end. If You feel like watching something funny, light but not stupid and completely lacking of seriousness You should watch these 2 series!
Both are high school animes. They are also both comedies that are base around the same general humor. The characters are all enjoyable and relatable. Both of these animes are humor based but have that serious element to them when the time calls for it.
There are a lot of aspects which make both Furuba and Ouran similar. First of all, both feature reverse harem (one girl around a lot of guys). They are also romantic comedies. If you liked Fruits Basket but wanted a Tohru with a more realistic personality, you might enjoy Haruhi in Ouran. Likewise, if you thought Tamaki was a bit too oblivious and air-headed, you might Yuki in Fruits Basket. Fans of Kyo will adore Kaoru and Hikaru.
Fruits Basket and Ouran High School Host Club both are reverse harems that are mainly comedy, but have their serious side too.
Both are a kind of "reverse harem" thing, with the lead girl the object of many affections. Both stories are during the high school years, and are more focussed on ironic situations and causing the viewer to laugh as opposed to being serious or meaningful. Light, fun, and G.
both have cute, but naive, girls who don't notice the boy around them like them
Both have a similar concept of one girl put in a situation of dealing with quirky guys. Both are very humorous with more serious undertones. Fruits Basket probably has more serious undertones, but both are good at balancing the serious moments with the very random and hilarious moments.
