Ouran Koukou Host Club

When I watched this the show it instantly reminded me of ouran and whenever the princess' smile its just like a ouran host.I actually found this recommendation of the net too and then I remembered I was reading it in a otakuzine in the magazine said that all fangirls should at least try it.So i decided to watch it the tags normally given to it was:comedy,shojo,yaoi,gender-bending,cross dressing,need i say more I really incourage you to watch and dont worry for me it was one of those anime thatyou just go on and on

Both animes have the gender bender host feel to them and are romantic comedy based. Also the main characters both come from a humble back ground and go to a private school that has a host type club/ group and are dragged into it at first against there will.

I just started watching Princess Princess and both shows are similar.  Dont belive me Ill break it down. Protagonist having to dress as the opposite gender, clubs made to pander for people, good looking guys, over the top comedy, relatabity in the drama,  cute openings, made in earily 2000's, schools that are academies, protagonist starting to enjoy their clubs.

Reverse harem, although La Corda D'Oro is more serious. There ARE quite a few funny areas too. Also, the main characters' (a.k.a. Haruhi and Kahoko) personalities are similar.

Both are school anime with a central female character surrounded by a lot of handsome guys. The girl comes to play a significant role in their lives helping them to change. Also, what both animes have in common is a rather ambigous romance line, when practically any male character has a potential to become a love interest for the main heroine.

these two series seem like they don't have an ending. there are a bunch of guys, one girl and most of the guys(or all) are into the girl. lol. anyway, in both of these series you'll cry, laugh, and love these animes. both of these have music too, that is if you like music as much as i do. but these two are just awesome. ^^

Like Ouran, La Corda has the huge (and very clueless) romantic pairs. And of course, all of the male cast falls for the violin-loving heroine, Kahoko Hino. It's funny and filled with music!

they both having a group of high school students consisting of a girl among a bunch of charming guys who all are liking her. Only that Kiniro no Corda has a second girl but pretty much unthere cause of extream silence she has. with some love complications an challenges.
They're so reminding me of each other!

One girl surrounded by several popular guys at school in both of these series. Yup.

But beyond that, both series contains plenty of drama and comedy. The characters all have various views on the main heroine and she gets to understand more in both series as the episodes progresses.

There's also romance in both series although not fully explored in the anime adaptations; reverse harem.

Goofy, over-the-top romance with a school-club backdrop. Progressive character development that has just enough sadness to tug on your heartstrings but not enough to make you genuinely depressed.

Both are FREAKING HILARIOUS! Comedy shows.
Both have an incredibly endearing cast of characters that you can't help but love and root for.
Both use episodic storytelling but also have progression throughout the whole series, all while keeping it fairly lighthearted.
Both deal with "commoners" going to an elite school where they face and overcome prejudice.
Both have characters who deal with the strain and even abuse of living with overly strict parents with high expectations.
Both really tug at your heart strings.

OHSHC is similar to Love is War as in Ouran, the main characters are kind of in a group, which is the host club, and without spoiling too much, in Love is War the main characters are also in a group, the student council. Love is war is about the main characters wanting the other person to confess first, while in OHSHC, the main characters don't realize their love until later episodes.
So, in conclusion, if you liked Ouran Highschool Host Club, you should definitely give Kaguya-Sama: Love is War a go!

The story-lines aren't very similar but the random (and not logical) experiences both Haruhi's experience (well, in melancholy's case, mostly Kyon's experience) are quite similar. While watching Melancholy, I thought of Ouran so yeah. They're both quite funny too.

Both Ouran and Suzumiya poke fun at stereotype things within the shoujo genre. Ouran focuses a bit more on romance stereotypes while Suzumiya deals with the most common characters in the Sci-fi part of shoujo. Both are light hearted comedys.

Both feature a mc that is caught up into a strange club lead by a cocky yet egotistical brat of a leader and the main character befriending the other members along the way as well too and the day to day lives of the members as well too and lots of cheesy comedy included.

Hana yori Dango addpermalink

Just like fruits basket and Ouran High school host club, hana yori dango has that aspect of reverse harem. But hana yori dango and Ouran high school host club both are stories about a poor girl attending a prestigious school for rich kids. Both poor girls are independent and full of life so all the rich guys are interested in her life and spirit and the differentness. Both anime are wonderful and both are a must watch.

Both animes take place in an expensive private school, and the main characters are from the middle class.  Both the main characters are female and the animes are about the main characters relationship with a group of boys that are considered the elite of the school.

Both are the same in that a normal girl entered into a school that normally only rich people can get into. Ouran High School Host Club is more fun and has a lot of comedy, whereas Hana Yori Dango focuses more on relationships and what may be more realistic if a girl were to enter an upper-class school. Ouran High School Host Club focuses on relationships as well but isn't as realistic as Hana Yori Dango.

One middle-class girl and her reverse-harem of insanely wealthy guys, coming right up! Ouran is intentionally a lot more gimmicky and silly to the point of ocassional parody when it comes to its approach, but Hanadan's funny moments are not exactly scarce.

There are pretty obvious similarities between these two anime. Both anime are romance shoujo where the mc is a poor girl studying in a school for rich kids. She will get herself involved in a group of male friends thus the start of her not so ordinay high school life.

They both center around an average girl who attends an elite private school, only to get in trouble with different groups in the school. In ouran, Haruhi breaks a vase and becomes indebted to the host club, and in hana yori dango, the main character gets into a fight with the schools biggest donors sons, the f4. After their initial trouble they end up kind of becoming friends and romance ensues! hana yori dango is more romance and drama based and ouran is definitely driven more by comedy, but they both have a reverse harem, a really strong, likeable mc, and romance.

While Ouran deals with a reverse harem situation the focus is (just like in Blend S) on the comedy elements and the (kind of one-sided) romantic relationship between the female lead and the blond, quirky male-lead. 
The humor is very similar and is in both shows presented in a setting where customers have to be served, while playing a certain character role (that might differ from the persons actual character).

They both play with the idea of a group of characters who put on a different personality for their guests' entertainment at their job/club. 
Ouran goes a little deeper with it, while Blend S chooses to focus on a romance as the series progresses, but both shows are at their best when they're exploring who these characters really are in contrast to the roles they play.

The relationship dynamic between the male lead and the female lead is very similar, in that the male shows interest in the female but is at times boggled or clueless, while the female at times reciprocates the interest but other times can also be clueless, or simply takes it in stride. In both stories, the female lead has to play a role that may differ from their underlying personality. Both have a supporting cast of characters who all have their quirks and their stories.

Serving you. Host Club and Blend S follow a group of individuals who essentially spend most of their time in customer service type roles, only it is 100 times more unique.

Based around posh life, run by posh boys, a host club made for people who are too damn rich with all the time and money on their hands in Host Club. A maid cafe, with multiple characters to play with, one of wish every anime fan would love to spend some time in Blend S.

Both are good comedy anime poking fun at the main image at hand and the people associated with it. Host Club has a real story to present compared to the s.o.l that is Blend S where only daily activities take place.

It just felt a little similar. A club/ cafe has a variety of "characters" and the blond manager has a crush on the main character who has just joined. They also go on random adventures. Sometimes they also have special days (like a tropical island-themed day). It felt similar so if you like the one you might like the other. No promises though!

I have a strong suspicion that Otome Youkai Zakuro was made to resemble Ouran. Both Tamaki and Agemaki come from a strict family, yet each are kindhearted. Haruhi and Zakuro are both strong, independent women who don't want to rely on others.

The characters in both series are very similar. The prince-type-blonde which ended up being super funny and pathetic (Tamaki and Agemaki), The hyper identical twins (Hikaru & Kaoru and Bonbori & Hoozuki) that are imposible to tell apart but someone does, the one who does is kindda normal and is poke by the twins (Haruhi and Ganryuu), The silent one (Mori-senpai and Riken).Plus both series are Romance and Comedy.

These series have the same brand of humor behind them. If you like gay jokes, cheerful school settings, and light romance, both of these series fit the bill. They're both on Netflix too.

Both are ridiculous, over-the-top action packed school-life romantic comedies with a lot of charm and great characters. Baka and Test, at least the anime, is also MUCH more female friendly than most school-life romantic comedies (save for series that are actually tagged as shoujo) as it has a lot of allusions to shoujo manga and anime (CLAMP references, yaoi implications, etc). They both take place at fancy academies and have an air of lavishness about them, although you don't get to see the lavish side nearly as much in Baka and Test because we follow Class F.

Both of them are funny examples of strange school life, with romance, craziness, and just children running wild. They also play a lot on the idea of stereotypes and how sometimes you can judge them and sometimes you can't. Sometimes the idiot can be the most charming.

3 words. OVER EXAGGERATED COMEDY! This is my favourite type of comedy and I love how the characters in both animes make the simplest issue that usually won't effect your daily life into something over exaggerated and turn it into a very funny scene. If you like gay jokes ,stupid jokes , baka characters then those are definetly here. There hasn't been a dull moment in these series and they easily fit in my Top 5 Comedy animes of all time. So if you like Ouran definetly check Baka to Test to Shoukanjuu! Same goes the other way around.

These two are both funny, tug-on-your-heartstrings shows with oddly intriguing main characters. Baka and Test, in my opinion, is the more funny of the two but both have mild love triangles, crazy hijinks, cute characters and a plot that just somehow fits.

Ouran High School Host Club leans more of the deeper side while maintaining its lighthearted nature. One would likely assume from the name that Baka and Test would be a blatantly stupid-comedy. However you would end up pleasantly surprised with a show based more on witty comedy and overall, friendship.

It involves a really similar style of crazy humor, similar characters, the theme of an oblivious person with people falling for them, several of the same voice actors, and a fun plot line just like B&T, so you should definitely check it out.

If you just finished ouran and want something similar to it... or the other way around. This anime will fill this gap. It includes the different archetypes and such. Also the MC like Heina is monotone like the main character in Ouran.

I just couldn't shake off how similar The Royal Tutor is to Ouran (And not in a bad way). 

# The MC is a commoner who is suddenly thrust into the word of rich brats
# Brats appear to be brats only in the beginning - with the progression of every episode you see they're actually complete sweethearts
# You have the nerd, the strong-silent type, the naughty guy, the beautiful guy... and ofc, the younger sibling meant for the 'aww' factor
# The strong-silent type opens up the most with the youngest sibling, and also cares for them the most.
# All siblings/friends have a deeper backstory which shows us their characters in a different light (each has their own struggles that they have to conquer)
# The initial few eps are 100% comedic, which slowly pave way to slightly more serious episodes
# MC exposes them to the ways of the commoners
# MC is not taking any of their shit
# All the rich guys put up with the no-nonsense MC bc they all slowly start liking MC!

These animes are very similar in the environment and the plot at hand. I did much prefer Ouran and also if your more into romance then I'd say go for Ouran. However both animes explore the hierarchy system between the people who are rich and the ones that are poor. Both settings at beautiful and wealthy type places Ouran being a posh high school and Royal Tutor being royalty and castle. The main protagonist in both of the animes end up teaching the men in the series how to be better, clever, smarter and change themselves but also with other characters and topic at hand.  read more

Dissimilarities:

One cross dressed character from one anime was a girl, while the other is a boy.

One anime has an extra romance genre while the other is more on comedy.

One was a 26 episode and 23 minute long anime, while the other anime is more of an 12 episode omake. 

The cross-dress character from one anime was rescued by the student council members and paid-off his debt, while the cross-dress character from the other anime was duped into joining the club.

Both series have a group of cute guys who do things to make women happy. The main characters of each are similar (despite the fact that Tamaki is much more spontaneous than Nokoru). CLAMP School Detectives has more "mystery," and Ouran has older characters, but chances are if you enjoyed one then you'll enjoy the other.

In my opinion, Toradora's artwork is better, but both animes present a group of colorful characters. The central plots concern love affairs between them, more specifically between the predestined couple of main characters and all the other members of the group. Cute and funny, with a touch of drama in both case.

Toradora! shares extremely similar themes to Ouran Host Club, as they are both comedic romances. The main difference between Toardora! and Ouran Host Club is that Toradora! delves deeper into each character's personality and gives the viewer a deeper insight into their personality than Ouran.

Overall though, I would highly recommend watching Ouran Host Club if you enjoy laughing a whole lots and getting engrossed into a short series.

Although the romantic concept isn't entirely directed in Ouran Koukou Host Club, I found that the connections between significant issues and resolve were relatively similar. The basis of both these animes show a vast contrast of dismal common occurrence issues yet work in appealing back to its audience through romantic mean to either distract or resolve the persisting previous issues of each character. Overall, they're both consistent animes regarding their underlying interpretations with whims of dramatic romance

Remove Haruhi and Mori, remove the extreme rich school setting and make them all "commoners" and you´ll get Kimi to Boku. Just imagine Ouran without the boys being hosts but instead, Childhood friends, and with a more slow pacing. You´ll get a cheerful mixed blood blonde, a serious intelligent megane, funny twins, and a fluffy boy that likes cute things living their daily lives in extreme fun. 
Also, although both center in friendship, both have hints of a love triangle (a straight one) XP

Both anime's are set in a world full of richdom and welth. I think the art is also kind of similar, but I don't know if other people agree. Kuroshitsuji also has those random funny moments like Ouran High School Host Club. Here's a funny fact: Both main-characters (in Ouran High School Host Club it's Haruhi, and in Kuroshitsuji Ciel) are voiced by the same seiyuu! Ouran High School Host Club & Kuroshitsuji both have shounen-ai hinted themes.

If you like the reverse harem thing and you wouldn't mind it so much if Haruhi were actually a boy...I guess this series would be for you. This series doesn't quite reach Ouran's height in brilliant characterizations or comedic wit but it does have its charms.

While the story of these two anime are fairly different, they both share a main character who often dresses and acts like you would expect of the opposite gender, another main who is quite carefree but very passionate when they do care about something, as well as both generally taking place in a high class/wealthy environment. Character interactions along with the comedy are also very similar between these two anime.

the interactions between Chihiro,Madoka, and Keiichiro remind me of Haruhi, Tamaki, and Kyoya, so the comedy and feel of the shows can come off as similar.Also both set mainly in high-class western style location.

Shounen Maid and Ouran High School Host club is very similar character wise.  The leads are very similar in which they are very independent, meet wacky people, and have a similar background story.  Their life after a major change is pretty similar as well. The wacky characters that surround them have similar characteristics.  The storyline is very similar. A kid who lost his mother is thrown into a whirlwind change, discovering that he has a pretty well off uncle.  On the other hand, the kid wants to follow in her mother who passed away's foot steps (occupation wise), so attends a high society high school and got thrown into a whirlwind change.  Plot and Character wise is pretty similar.  But Shounen Maid is more about family and everyday life while Ouran is more about cheesy comedic stunts and romance.    read more

When I was watching Shounen Maid I got the Ouran vibes. When I say this I'm not talking about the boy x boy flirting. I'm talking about how the Main Character ( Chihiro; Chi ) reacts to his hyper active uncle and the others around him. ( If you look pretty close you can find Tamaki, Haruhi, Renge, and Kyoya in certain characters). Chi picks up the others slack, much like another "commoner". This anime is pretty lighthearted and sweet as you get to see the Main Character come to accept his new family. I would like to think that if you enjoyed Ouran High School Host Club you would enjoy this anime as well. Even without the twins I hope you give this anime a try.

- Similar visual comedy, both have over exaggerated faces and arrows and emotions shown in symbols

- Both are directed by Takuya Igarashi, same style of sarcastic comedy and flow of jokes

They are different in the the fact that Bungou Stray Dogs is more serious than OHSHC.

When I watched, immediately comes to my mind Ouran Koukou Host Club image. First the "Prince", then the "Intellectual", after that the "Big guy" and finally the "Childish" one with a "teddy bear" in his hands. What's the difference? This is not a club, they are vampires. Maybe I forget the twins... but well, until now is the same.

Ouran is about a girl who ends up pretending to be a guy while Tenshi na Konamaiki is about a girl who used to be a guy, until a curse turned him into a girl.  Both are hilariously funny series' about friendship with a touch of romance.  Both have many heartwarming moments as well as crazy hi-jinks.  

The characters in both also have similarities since they are parodies of commonly seen types of characters that at the same time are very lovable and dynamic.  Ouran has the prince-type, the cool-type, the quiet one, the lolita, and the mischievous "boy's love" twins.  Tenshi na Konamaiki has the female best friend, the macho man, the bishounen, the average high-school boy, and the pervert (who thankfully is downplayed).  

I think anyone who liked one of these series' ought to give the other a chance. read more

Both series involve a young girl suddenly thrust into a world full of wealthy young men. Both are reverse harems with wacky antics and a crazy cast, however Brothers Conflict takes itself seriously whereas Ouran is purely comedic.

What separate's these anime's the most (thus far: Shomin Sample still airing) is being that Shomin Sample also contains some ecchi scenes.

The Disastrous Life of Saiki K has many very similar aspects as Ouran High School Host Club. For starters, they're both comedies with similar senses of humor. They also have episodes which can be watched almost completely independently. There are no long-lasting arcs so you won't need to have watched the whole show to get each episode. If the rewatch value of OHSHC was admirable to you, then you'll find Saiki K to be the same. Overall, both are dumb fun anime which you can rewatch over and over when you're feeling down :)

This show has been getting similarities from toradora to soul eater. I would say the relationship of shizuku and haru is kinda similar to the one that haruhi and tamaki share in ouran high school except you make tamaki and rebel instead of a prince.

Both these anime focus on the relationships of a group of people (this is probably true for most anime though): in Ouran it is the 'Host Club' members while in Working it is the part time workers at the family restaurant 'Wagnaria'. Comedy, a variety of characters with distint personalities and quirks, a slow and comfortable pace and episodes following the daily life of the characters (in the Host Club and in the family restaurant) without a strong plot (this is more true for Working!!) are similar elements in both. Ouran has more character development and shows the pasts of the characters while Working!! has a lighter focus on this. Working may seem to have a lot of repitition - Takanashi always gets hit by Inami, chief is always serving the manager - but this is not really a negative aspect because it just shows the daily life at the restaurant which is mostly unchanging. However, we do learn more about the characters, they do develop a little, but that is not really the main focus of the anime.

In general both are fun to watch. You may not necssarily enjoy the other if you liked one, but there is a probability of doing so. Try a few episodes in any case. read more

The main characters in both animes starts at new school, special schools where the main characters are different from the others on the school, they have a secret, there are a lot of humor in both of the animes, the the main characters both animes join clubs :P and (this is the last one, i promise) they are both about love.

The plot is VERY similar: main char. enrolls in an elite school and meets very interesting and good-looking guys, and tries to fit in. The only difference is, Ouran's main character is a girl, and GH's is a guy.

When i saw this one, it reminded me of OHSHC in a way, but its hilarious, and both Haruhi and Saito are both kinda clueless of the people around them (like how Tamaki obviously likes Haruhi (but Tamaki doesnt know it) and how Louise likes Saito (but doesnt know it and tries to deny it)). Did i mention they're both hilarious?? And perverted, in a way.

In both, the main character is forced into a school club and harem that they do not wish to be part of.  Despite being different genders, both main characters are not really into the antics that the club members continuously crack up.
Ouran has more character development and romance, while SYD is comedy focused.  However, the hilarity that ensues in both series is more or less the same.

Hideaki Asaba a man who's background grows roses and who loves entertaining ladies... and who we love to laugh at. If you liked  this character from His and Her Circumstances, You will love Ouran a show filled with " rich young men with way to much time on their hands who entertain beautiful young giels who also have too much time." His and Her Circumstances is a light Romance, Slice of Life, Drama and Ouran is Comedy Parody, they still have this in common!

First off, let me just say that both Hayate no Gotoku and Ourah High School Host Club are zany, random, and absolutely hilarious shows. I'd say they're a definite must watch if you're into comedies.

How are they similar?

Hayate no Gotoku has our hero, Ayasaki Hayate, who becomes a "combat butler" to pay off his debt to Nagi, who paid off his outrageous debt to some Yakuza; Yakuza of whom his parents borrowed a ton of money from, lost said money in gambling and crazy dreams, and then decided to skip town and leave Hayate behind with the debt. Boy is HnG a whacky show...

As for Ouran, our heroine is Fujioka Haruhi,  who has a debt to pay off as well. Commoner Haruhi accidentally broke an 8 million yen vase belonging to the her prestigious high school's host club. And she's gotta pay it off by way of cross-dressing as a guy in the host club after school. read more

Gakuen Alice has the same silly sense of humor as OHSHC. The characters are quite different, but, I dunno, I find that these two series just go hand in hand. If you read the Gakuen Alice manga as well as the OHSHS manga, you'll find that there are some characters from both stories that have quite dark pasts. Both heroins, Mikan and Haruhi, are loved by a variety of different characters. They themselves, however, are mostly clueless to this love. MOSTLY. ;)

They're both very cute, very funny, and definitely worth a look.

The story is very similar because it revolves around a central character(who actually kindda look alike) surrounded by members of the opposite sex; also, the main story isn't love, but it seems to involve all of the characters.

Both anime have cute guy characters that are mischievous, smart, narcissistic, and meanies that will keep you entertained and wanting more all the time. You wont regret watching and it will make you laugh with a small taste of romance.

Both are absolutely perfect and hilarious parodies of typical shoujo genres, Ouran of otome/reverse-harems and Binan of the magical girl warrior genre (like Sailor Moon). Ouran does this by having an unusual heroine who takes things in stride and just won't play along with the shoujo script. Binan does this by replacing the usual middle school girl heroines with high school BOYS, who then point out every bit of ridiculousness about what is happening while still going along with it. Oh, and they are also practically naked in a bath house about 50% of the time and constantly and intentionally tease Boys Love between the characters. Both wholly embrace the silliness inherent in the premises behind their respective shows, although Ouran is known to have some genuine drama occasionally and Binan is pure laugh your ass off comedy from start to finish. If you like pretty boys, funny banter and humor, watching characters embarrass themselves and analysis of shoujo stereotypes, then look no further. Liking one will just about guarantee you'll like the other. read more

Both are genderbend reverse harems with a tomboyish main girl who can hold her own surrounded by rambunctious boys. Obviously Ouran is a much better series, but at 12 minutes per episode Girl Beats Boys isn't a bad watch. It's low budget but mindless fun.

This is a bit of a stretch but I'd recommend AkaYona if you liked OHSHC. Both main characters are strong female leads who want to stand up for themselves. However, they are surrounded by a group of males who want to do nothing more than to protect them. However both main characters are stubborn, and refuse to let the guys do everything for them. The males are hesitant, but they are happy to comply, and respect them and their decisions.

Kimi ni Todoke is a very sweet and cute anime. The story relies on the building of the relationships and leaves you smiling. However, it isn't as funny as Ouran High School Host Club but i definitely would recommend it.

Without doubts both series do not share same nor similar genres but:

- The main character in both series has a cheerful, cool and brave personality.
- Both main male characters are played by the same Seiyuu: Miyano Mamoru
- Both made by Studio BONES

Star Driver kinda gives the feeling to have Tamaki (Hos Club) with a mecha background.
So somehow i feel to advice to watch one if you liked the other :3

They have a very similar feel to them as two people (Haruhi and Teppei) are thrust into the world of rich folk and parties and such. The two may be TOTALLY different people, but at the start of their journeys into the world of riches they are both extremely worried at what would be next to happen.

In all, they are similar anime and If you like one of them you will like the other.
