I gave Interspecies Reviewers a 6, but I'm a pretty generous critic overall. I find bad anime to be morbidly amusing. I'm also a connoisseur of bad cinema. I own a massive Canon Films boxset along with my Dolemite box set and collection of the worst Nicholas Cage films. Sadly, I don't own Manos on Bluray yet, my copy is still DVD.

Bad anime are very fun to watch with friends and they make the easiest reviews to write. I also love to watch bad anime with my girlfriend. Our first date was watching Ninja Resurrection together. An edgy piece of shit from the 1990s in which the real life historical samurai, Jubei Yagyu, fights against Crystal Dragon Jesus! Also there is a medieval samurai with an Ironman suit that's never explained.

My score would definitely be higher than 5 if I only watched good anime.

Why have poor Interspecies Reviewers at a 1? The raunchy and juvenile comedy style isn't for everyone, but it's not THAT bad. If you want to experience a 1/10 anime, watch this shit! These 29 minutes will change your life!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_EgUMsAucI4 The greatest magical girl anime!

Monster was my very first slower paced seinen back in 2007. It still holds a dear place in my heart. I think Galactic Heroes is quickly filling the "my first mature anime" role that Monster first held. This has led some in "Le cool" community to abandon LotGH in favor of World Masterpiece Theater shows. Personally, I have no desire to ever watch any of those. There are some old children's anime that are fun though. Silver Fang is hysterical and awesome. An army of macho, talking dogs have to learn ancient techniques from ninja wolves in order to fight the evil king of the bears!

I only watched the first season of Sailor Moon. I don't dislike it per se but Magical Girl anime just really aren't my niche. Unless you count Elfen Lied as a magical girl anime. I also really love the Cutey Honey franchise and Revolutionary Girl Utena. My girlfriend is the magical girl expert. She loves her shows like Sailor Moon, Wedding Peach, Fancy Lala, Creamy Mami, Minky Momo, etc.

Alright I’m gonna make it somewhat short because apparently the page decided to reload randomly while I was typing:

I didn’t read your last comment, but apparently the way you comment and reply did not give me a reason to reply leniently even though I’m normally a nice guy, just very cynical compared to most in terms of rating fiction. If you’re wondering why I continue to watch shows I rate very low, let’s just say it’s akin to why many people would continue watching a house burn down or a runaway train crash and burn. Plus I’d still get complaints from many people anyways if I just dropped all those series.

I erased your comments because I found them obstructive to look at. Cause it’s literally the same inquiry over and over. Why should I even bother leaving such comments on there when they’re not even amusing to read?

There’s many other people with as bad as a “problem”, if not worse, with their ratings, yet you can’t judge them by how their ratings are. Yet it seems like you’re acting like I’m the only one with an actual problem. I’m not sure why you’re bothering with me in the first place, but it would’ve been better if you never questioned anything in the first place when we have the freedom to rate how we want, anyways. If anything, you should have issues with those who ONLY use 1-3s as their ratings lmfao.

Are you going to watch Sailor Moon S dubbed? My girlfriend is a big Sailor Moon fan and we LOVE to laugh at clips from the dub. Usagi's voice actress in S and Super S is a older lady attempting to sound like her original actress and the results are...special.

Or maybe I simply have different rating standards. I appreciate the perplexed feeling you have. Lets me know that there’s still people out there who’ll never agree to any particular rating standard I have, and that’s fine. As for therapy, sure I need that....physical therapy to fix my ruined sleep cycles, that is.

Monster is the only 1 of my top 10 that you would actually want in a MAL top 10 list. An ideal list would go something like 1. Mushishi 2. Galactic Heroes 3. Rose of Versailles 4. Lain 5. Haibane Renmei 6. Princess Tutu 7. Ashita no Joe 8. Kaiba 9. Mononoke (Not Princess Mononoke) 10. Only Yesterday.

The "cool" MAL users would generally consider stuff like Trigun, Kenshin or Spice and Wolf to be 5/10 series. At best 6/10 but certainly not top 10 material.

Even though my top 10 roster is already considered fairly weak by MAL standards, Elfen Lied is still easily the worst rated of that top 10. Elfen Lied is a series with many, MANY flaws that are immediately apparent. Despite that, it's a series that made a very deep impact on me and I absolutely love it. I figure I might as well be honest with my top 10 and make it more personal rather than trying to be objective.

Elfen Lied was always a highly polarizing series, but it did have a cult following back in its day. On Anime News Network it still boasts an 8.30 rating. On IMDB it has an 8.0. On MAL it's around a 7.55. On Anilist, Kitsu, and Letterboxd it has a rating in the 6-6.5 range. Purely in terms of ratings, I think Letterboxd is actually my favorite site. It's so incredibly elitist that it's fair. The trashy stuff I like is rated just like the trashy stuff other people like. The only things rated above an 8 are 300 IQ art films from 60 years ago that are in black and white. Gintama and Elfen Lied are basically the same thing on Letterboxd, because they aren't Soviet art films by Andrei Tarkovsky.

No problem, thank you!

Not sure why you seemed that overly concerned or perplexed about someone else’s personal ratings (unless they’re like 3.0 or lower), but yea I love myself.
literaturenerd Jan 26, 2021 2:58 PM
Honestly, anime ratings aren't something to take seriously. I just find it amusing that Kitsu has Demon Slayer as their greatest of all time. At the same time, I'm fully aware I have a lot of trash favorites and I'm happy to make fun of my own taste.

lol, thanks man! I started writing reviews here during a stressful time in my life. Then I kept at it because I enjoy it and I like making people laugh. I actually met my girlfriend here on MAL! Why bother with Ok-Cupid or Bumble when you can go on the internet and review 1/10 yaoi like "Boku no Sexual Harassment"?
