For a start I have to paraphrase “Don’t judge a book by it’s cover”. I judged it that way all these years so I ended always postponing my visualization of Gall Force. I have to say that I regret not having watched it earlier.
-------Little Spoilers on the beginning of the story bellow----------
In the middle of a space war, our all female team on their spaceship unite themselves to run away from what looked like a lost war, by doing that, they gained some unexpected members on their crew, females of course. But they were unable to escape safely, they were pursued by their enemies, an
...
alien race, in their attempt and that led to some confronts later on.
-------End of the Spoilers----------
Well, the premise wasn’t anything extraordinary, in fact the premise and the cover image made my interest decrease, “an all girl force fighting in some galaxy…”, in fact it was quite lame and it got me away of Gall Force all these years, but fortunately this was one of those cases when “there’s more than meets the eye”.
The characters weren’t nothing extraordinary too as I had expected, except the lead one, which we assume it is the lead, that was pretty dependable and actually developed into a great character.
The story and the plot twists that it led were the strong points of the film, perhaps some twists weren’t well explained and detailed and there were a lot of background story to be told, but the fact how the story ran away from it’s initial course and done in an interesting way leading us to a completely unexpected and pretty cool ending makes for all the flaws of the anime.
Ah, I’m a sucker to those types of endings, I loved it.
The animation was pretty nice and proper for a ’86 OVA, the music fitted well. Some characters really annoyed me, but the great lead made for it.
It’s a pretty good recommendation for a mid to late 80s sci-fi anime title. You’ll not regret it.

This was kind of a taboo for me, since it was entirely made on computer and I tend to dislike entirely computer made animations. Okay, I still disliked the fact that it was entirely made on computer graphics, but I managed to stick with it because the story got a hold of me.
I don't know how developed is the 3D world these days, since I don't play games since ages ago, but speaking about the graphics here, I can say that there were some good animations and some bad, for example, the faces looked quite realistic, but in contrast, the bodies sometimes were
...
bad animated and badly drawn in some scenes and reminded me of those animated bodies of the first Resident Evil game days, if you know what I mean.
It begins when a grown up young man is invited to a class reunion, so he ends up going to visit his old house on his old town, once there, he remembers a very unusual chapter that happened when he was a child and lived in that place...
Characters were well fit into the story and they didn't felt dislocated. It had a scary “the ring” similar girl character there, that helped to kept your eyes glued on the screen. The story was built up in a good suspense and got a hold of me during most of it’s time, but when the end came, I didn’t felt like it tied very good, it happens a lot with recent horror stories and in my view it happened with this one also.
It was a very entertaining nevertheless and I committed the error of watching it in the morning, the sound effects and the obscurity of some scenes were perfectly matched for a dark evening visualization.
Next time I'll to keep that in mind.
If you’re familiar with the recent Japanese horror cinema scene, you’ll know more or less what to expect here.

Third chapter on the Violence Jack unholy trinity.
It starts with a good violent scene getting to what matter in this anime. Violence and brutality. If the other OVAs didn’t please you this one will not either, since the story is of the same calibre of the other ones of if not a little below.
Some time has passed since the events that occurred on the other two parts of this series. Society seems to be again growing slowly but as it’s usual with these post apocalyptic worlds, gangs of delinquents, murders and rapists control the cities.
This time around, Violence Jack has another person who
...
wants to take revenge on the bad guys.
Another OVA full of wicked violence and the always pleasant gore for your viewing pleasure.

Here we have the sequel to 1985 gory OVA based on a Go Nagai manga. Go Nagai’s the master of Horror in case you have forgotten.
After another catastrophe, this time it was a big earthquake, the survivors of Tokyo get trapped underground. After some months after experiencing the difficulties of living underground and the lacking of food, people start to get crazy and kill each other over the smallest thing, thus the city is renamed by Evil City. That led to the starting of the division of three areas that still get each other involved in conflicts after conflicts. Area A, trying to dig a
...
tunnel back to the outside find a strange and enormous Human, his name is Violence Jack.
Well, the ending fight had some inconsistencies. That was confusing.
The animation was not as good as some obvious titles of that year, but it won't be on your way to enjoy the OVA.
The character designs looked awfully familiar, reminded me of those Akio Suginoi's character designs of series, like Ace Wo Nerae, Oniisama E..., Golgo 13, Rose of Versailles, Cobra, They Were Eleven... you got the point. But they weren’t, they were made by some guy name Takuya Wada, that only did this character design. I can guess where he went to get inspiration from.
Once again the sound department was horrible, due to the file that I watched was US English dub. Pretty horrible, bad voices and the BGM and music were far behind. (I’ll edit this part when I have watched a proper release with actually good sound ans the original voices)
Thanks to the excessive gore, this one is a pleasant view again, for if it wasn’t for the gore, almost the entire OVA would better go to the garbage bin.
Who is Violence Jack, and what the hell is with those powers of his? We still will have to wait for the answer.

Long ago, I used to believe that a good story just needed to have some good doses of blood, gore and of course naked women. Those were the days and I was a hungry teenager influenced by a dying and corrupt world. Of course that as the years passed me by, I was influenced by many other things and came to widen my taste range.
So, watching Go Nagai’s gory Violence Jack takes me back to my youth.
You do have to enjoy gory stories to enjoy Violence Jack, prior knowledge on Go Nagai would be also welcome.
Forget about the main plotline and just enjoy the
...
naked women and the blood and the gore, this is what Violence Jack is all about.
It is Violent as the name implies, so no time watching gardens here.
But if you still insist and you want to find a story there, it also does have one.
A comet has hit the earth and almost eradicated human life. Among survivors, some chose the philosophy of “kill, destroy and rape” all the women and people around. Among those bandits there’s a boss, his name is Slumking. And there’s this individual, a giant kind of immortal one, who no one knows where has come.
The animation is pretty good for 1985.
As I watched a crappy US dubbed version, the background sounds and music was hidden far away for most of the movie and yes if a US dub can be bad, it can be very bad. (I’ll edit this part when I have watched a proper version.)
And that’s it, it’s pretty straightforward material you have here. But the gore is what matters really.
If Go Nagai’s name rings you a bell or if you never heard the name but felt curious on what this strange OVA from 1985 might have inside, go ahead. It’ll be a nice experience, well, might not be nice, but you won’t forget it for sure.

What have I been doing all this time? Why didn't I have watched this jewel sooner? It doesn't matter now, because I finally did and I have to admit that the "cult" following that exists around this OVA is well deserved unlike other series with such status.
This tells a story of shin Kazuma, a pilot who is betrayed by his best friend and finds himself in a mercenary air force in a critical country in middle east thanks to that betrayal, Shin to get out of there needs to work for three years or do a reasonable ammount of missions that has surpassed the price
...
of those three years of work.
The story is very good, it doesn't have major holes and goes into a complete new approach at the time and original theme and plot. Characters are fitted to the story and we have a good character development. Sound and animation are a little affected by time, but nothing big, it's still a good viewing.
Betrayal, War themes, good air action fights, great character development and a good story awaits here.

This OVA seems to be a remake first Casshan also known as Cashern series.
In this world Dr. Azuma built a super android called BK-1 and instructed the android to protect earth and nature, the robot to fulfill his duties began to kill and tyrannize all the human race, because afterall the human race was killing earth. BK-1 then renames himself as Black King Boss. Tetsuya, Dr. azuma's son, after watching this massacre is left with no other choice than that of merging himself with his father latest android becoming the legendary immortal Casshan.
I've entered this Casshan world by the Cashern Sins series, so please bear
...
that in mind. The story is pretty different to that of Cashern Sins. Here Cashern is named Casshan, Braiking Boss is Black King Boss, but this could possibly have been a bad English translation. Luna is actually Tetsuya Azumas girlfriend, the scientist that built Casshan was his father, etc…
The animation was what was to be expected in terms of animation from the middle nineties, sometimes it's pretty cool and sometimes average.
The OVA is entertaining in it's way, but I was left with the impression that the longer and original series must have been more conclusive and in depth (this is a four episode OVA after all while the TV series have 35 episodes.
I might be lucky oe of these days and I may see some fansub picking the original series, afterall, the new Cashern series have been gaining some cult following recently.

This review is for Garakuta no Machi (Junk Town).
As always Studios 4ºC provides us with a good animation and a unusual story. This time the story centers in a not so far away future, where robots are regular view in the streets.
Our main character is a little kid, while passing by on a street discovers this little robot head eating other robots parts and other mechanic in general and forming this stange tail on its back as soon as it eats a new part. Later we learn that the "tail" that the robot formed was just assimilated parts to form its own body. When the
...
robot achieves its goal he becomes rather twisted and even tries to attack humans. In the end the robot it's just a little head again trying to do the same thing again, it seems that it didn't learnt its lesson. We can take a lesson from here. In Portugal we have a saying that goes something along these lines "Who wants everything looses everything", and I think it goes along fine with this short OVA.
It's good view. If you are familiar with short OVAs from the 4ºC gang this will not disappoint you.

WOW, this is as Echii as the name implies.
Well the basic plot is something like this Mari is a strongly devoted Christian and moves to a religious liberal school, there she befriends a hindu devoted girl and then this girl is kidnapped. After this Mari gets troubled and tries to pray to jesus and the holy mary but then comes a perverted Buddha instead, the perverted Buddha induces mary into turning a heroine with some sumo panties and having in them her strength to fight her enemies, (with her butt attack!) which are all perverts by the way. Have you ever heard of an butt
...
print? They have one there
The show actually made me give some good laughs and were definitely some 45 minutes well passed. It seems to have a sequel, I looking forward to watch it, as soon as Anime-Classics releases it, someday soon, or not..
If the title gives you curiosity, go ahead and try watching it, be it a good or a bad experience, chances are that you'll remember it either way .

15 animation personalities of different anime studios are given 60 seconds to animate something and were compiled into this small movie called Ani (Animation) Kuri (creators) 15. These shorts were shown between commercials in NHK channel and it's other channels.
- The Hidden Princess /"Princess Onmitsu" (Mahiro Maeda: Gonzo) - 6.3
Regular animation here and a cute story based on anime most used themes. A little princess turns into a magical girl and defeats a power rangers like villains and the final boss with the help of her doll.
- "Gyrosopter" (Ranji Murata: Gonzo; and Tatsuya Yabuta: Gonzo) - 5.6
Yoy can feel Range Murata in it even though
...
it was fully made in 3D. This doesn't had a story so to tell. It showed the so called Gyrosopter and a a girl looking at the water reminiscing about.
- Amusement Park Kiss /"Wandaba Kiss" (Atsushi Takeuchi: Production I.G) - 7.0
This one was pretty good, the animation well done and it was pretty effective, it was perfect for the movements required at a amusement park .
- Beyond the Tears (Akemi Hayashi: Gainax) - 6.8
This one was more like a music clip, showing a girl near a window crying and remembering perhaps a friend and happier days of the past.
- Project Mermaid (Mamoru Oshii: Production I.G) - .7.8
Oshi's done it again, whenever he does something short these days he goes into this direction. He presents us with a very modern approach of an animation even converging with real pictures of a woman to do the mermaid. It ends becoming a pretty good short movie. And the actual last two seconds of it, makes you want to learn more about that story.
- Frolicking /"Okkakekko"(Michael Arias: Studio 4°C) - 6.0
The most weird so far. We see a big green field with children happily playing on it, but then there appears this big robot like the Miyazaki's Castle in the Sky robot, walking around. A child stares at it without fear as the other children runs along with it.
- "Good Morning" (Satoshi Kon: Madhouse) - 9.0
image
This one was an excellent piece from Mr. Satoshi Kon. It deals with the process of fully awaken in the morning.
- "Supaatsutaisa" ("刺客來搜山了"?) (Tobira Oda; and Yasuyuki Shimizu: Studio 4°C) - 8.4
This one is animated in basic sketch like black and white. Despite being so simple, it is a huge fun. It is shown to the viewer like it was some scenes or episode in the middle of a samurai story about this colonel that lives in the mountains with his pets but must leave everything behind because he's being targeted. It was a very funny short.
- A Gathering Of Cats ("Neko no Shuukai"?) (Makoto Shinkai: Comix Wave Film) - 8.3
Very good Shinkai short. It's about how a cat gets fed up about the humans always stepping on his tail and eventually does a "gathering of cats", where all the cats in the neighborhood assemple together and take revenge on humans. The next day, it happens all over again.
This was very different from what shinkai usually does, but not less good.
- Alien Invasion - Hiroshi's Circumstances /("Uchujin Raikou Hiroshi no Baai"?) (Shōjirō Nishimi: Studio 4°C) - 7.8
Very nice short, with a little robot distracting a guy on his desk when this one was calmly reading a manga, it looks like the little robot is playing with the guy. The character design here is like Mind game.
- Yurururu ~Daily Chapter~ "Yurururu ~Nichijou Hen~" (Kazuto Nakazawa: Studio 4°C) - 8.0
A guy is trying to animate a scene in it, and you actually see the drawing being born and process of it. You also see the guy, well not see but it's more like in first person animation. see the guy also going to the bathroom and in the return trying to play a joke on a co-worker by messing with the keyboard that the co-worker was typing (I found that scene hilarious, because I usually did the exact thing too). In the end you see the animation complete.
Interesting point is that he has the drawing upside down.
- Project Omega (Shōji Kawamori: Satelight) - 7.9
It's Kawamorui time so you can expect mecha here, even if it's a one minute mecha anime. A comet is about to collide with earth, and when the announcer of NHK news announces that the colliding point will be NHK there are measures to be taken. The whole building of NHK transforms into a huge mecha to stop the comet, the problem is that it needs more power.
- Heat Man ("Hyotoko"?) (Yasufumi Soejima: Gonzo) - 4.0
Another total CG piece here.
A group of Native attacks a beast, or whatever it is. total CG in Gonzo vein, the worst of the bunch.
- Attack of The Azuma Area #2 (Shinji Kimura: Studio 4°C) - 7.0
CGI animation again but done differently. This one was fun. Three little alienes arrive on earth to conquer it, when they approach someones house speaking of their plans of conquer throught he intercumunicator, the person on the other side just tells them that she doesn't need it, confusing them by some seller.
- Sancha Blues (The Aromatic Tea) Blues" (Osamu Kobayashi: Madhouse) - 8.0
An record store owner watches their supposed clients coming to his store but most of them don't buy anything for the store owner sadness.
Some directors were able to accomplish their tale or their message in it's 1 minute story, but some weren't able to do it, afterall, it's pretty difficult to come up with a finished product in only one minute.
It was a great watch never the less.
Rate: 8.0/10 very good stuff.
