Gosenzo-sama is one hell of an unorthodox series with themes on family and fate. As expected, it ain't for everyone, but for fans of Oshii's direction, shit really does hit the fan 'cause of its experimental nature. It's also an examination on what is important to love or not and what's important in life. Always wacky and theatrical in a very playful way, enjoyable is the one of the first words that comes to mind whilst watching it, along with the ones aforementioned. Pay attention to the tropes of storytelling that Oshii relies on, because they are bound to be symbolic or to have double meanings (well you should know that already). It's my favorite work of his and one of my favorites as a whole because I had this connection with it that I couldn't afford to have with other series that were probably as great but not as heartfelt and close to me as they could've been. As a well-known fact, the big storyteller and director shares ground with popular figures and likes to play with some of their sayings, so you might notice one or two Marxian theories on capitalism and family being cleverly used in it. Overall, I wouldn't be able to stop recommending it to fans of Oshii.

I haven't read much of his manga or novels but as far as I am concerned, I am trying to keep track of what he's created when I have time. I've watched some of his live-action movies tho.
