The comment section was an embarrassment. People need to seriously get a life, if not that, at least a real-life friend. Glad you like my mad ramblings (reviews), and if/when I review something again, it will probably be incredibly short. Most MAL users don't have the attention span for actual analysis, so I'll save them and myself the trouble. Happy holidays to you as well, stay warm and covid free :)

It's impossible to objectively score a subjective medium. You could argue, in fact, that nothing qualifies as truly objective. As every bit of information is filtered through the subjective experiences of our brain (a powerful, yet limited processing unit). And, if we were so inclined, we could have a nuanced, philosophical discussion about such things.

The numbers of my rating systems have no consequence. I just use it as a means to stir up conversation and demonstrate how certain people have narrow a scope on reality. I'm glad you saw past this. :)

If you look at my rating system as a 'better than/worse than' tiered list, then it makes quite a bit of sense. But, the question then becomes, how do I determine such things if objectivity doesn't exist...originality, enjoyment and depth of the subject matter. Ultimately, if the show in question differentiates itself from the herd with a novel approach, or offers exploration into ill-explored subject matter -- then I consider it worth my time. Of course, my opinions evolve (possibly devolve) over time, changing the way I may have previously thought about a show. So everything is fluid and subject to change.

A numbered/tiered list, ultimately, is futile in determining the artistic impact of a show. Hence, I write reviews to expound about themes and symbolic elements that I feel were important to the success/failure of the show in question.

All the best.

I love the whole audio visual aesthetic. everything from the character designs, to the color palette (especially the number of silver and gold shots), to the general frame by frame shot coposition. Theres a constant focus on how the characters are portrayed to the viewer (with a number of shots framed by chains, seen through glass/ mirrors, at odd angles). The audio design also is peak. Its one of my favorite yuki kajiura OST's that really fits the goth loli feel of the show. This all comes together to just give me an ultra sublime experience, that i dont really get all that often; It really just blows me away every time. The story itself is kind of a mess, which i have a hard time taking in even after 4 rewatches, but at this point, i really dont care. Cosette is just an avenue for shinbou to show off his animation vision, so to me, the story doesnt even matter. Its just a way to logically bind a series of frames in time together, an excuse to go wild.

Then Texhnolyze should do it for you, in due time.

It's punsihing to people who aren't used to shows with a slower pace. However, if you're more into the slower paced philosophical watches that aren't really what general casual anime fans would watch, then you'll love it by the end. If anything, give it a go until episode 13 at least.

I would agree that people do sometimes see more in something than what the original creator likely intended. This is especially true with post modern art. Take Barnett Newman, for example. He just painted stripes, and, somehow, people saw genius in his work, and were willing to spend millions for it. Regardless, I try not to judge such people. They can like whatever they want. Regarding Texhnolyze, it definitely had great ideas, but, for me, it stretched those ideas out for too long.

Hehe, sweg!

Yeah eventually. But that's not something that's of immediate concern for me.
