Hi! Sorry for late reply, but I don't visit MAL often.
I work in gimp (I put here all the parts together) and ps (use for edition). Gimp is easier than ps, not only for me, so I recommend you this program. ;)
When I started, I made layouts like that. It was easier for me to make the top, add the stripe which separate the top form the rest and make "sections" where I put "about me" information, favorite characters, favorite series, etc. I know that "messy" layouts are more interesting and cool, but I like some of my old works with the more simply style and I'm sure I couldn't make "messy" one that time. In fact, I still have problems with that, although I've made over 70 profiles already. xD Of course maybe you are more talented than me and you can make anything you want. ;D But I'd advice you to start with the more simply way; it's easier to practise graphic skills on that kind of works - at least for me.
It took me 2 days to make my current layout. Eh, I can't easly expalin how I made it. I wa working on plenty layers, had to edit so many pictures and play with brushes and textures (I'm still bad at this part) at the end. Too much work, but god, Kuroo is worth it. xD

Sorry for any mistakes and so long answer. ;P
