Have you been studying Japanese too and what do you think of Ghost in the Shell?
I haven't re-watched Cowboy Bebop in months as well. I even re-watched Solty Rei and Twilight Venom dubbed.
As for manga, Gantz is definitely that next best manga that I've been looking for after having read Silent Möbius QD and Oh! My Goddess.
It's been ages since I last watched The Woman Called Fujiko Mine.
I'm a big fan of Red Jacket Lupin stuff by the way.
Yeah, typing on a phone can be a bit of a hassle. Especially when you have annoying thumbs like me. I just smash a bunch of letters together unintentionally. :P
I've read a little bit of the Needless manga. It's a very ridiculous and over-the-top action manga and I think it was kinda cool. I've also seen the OP for the anime. Modern Strange Cowboy. It looks sick and gnarly. I might just watch the anime and get it over with. Thank you for the recommendation. :)
Popuri (or "Potpourri" just like the fansub liked to use as the romanization)'s expressions and the voice acting for her and the children's fantasy-esque (?) feeling of the show is making it great for me.
Even though I was familiar with the title and was hyped for it (I was expecting to be similar to Doremi but they aren't that similar), thanks for making it to be one of my high priorities, I'm trying to watch at least 1 ep per day so hopefully I'll finish it in the next month... btw I haven't seen Creamy Mami still and if I don't take a break from watching anime in the next 2-3 months I'll probably start it sometime in this year
I'm always happy to showcase some less popular shows to people, so I'm content too! :D
Watched a documentary about Akiyuki Shinbo and initially I only wanted to watch his works but then decided to just watch everything shaft made to see what made him interested in joining there. 80% of shaft shows have Shinbo name attached to them anyway so it wasn't that hard to get into the interesting part. Shaft before Shinbo had the exact same themes as it does now but without the visual flare that he brought in when he came, so they seemed boring at times. Coming of age semi-echii, fanservice slice of life stuff.
Are you watching anything else beside the seasonal stuff? I began watching all shaft works from beginning to end.
I agree that they may influence people one way or another and that pedophilia in anime isn't okay but we are adults and we do know whats good and bad for the most part. With this being said I wanted to say that I am not trying to justify rape, neither encourage it but in the case of Uza maid it is supposed to be fun and comedic. The anime doesn't promote it, it just uses it as a tool for comedy. Would you watch an anime like every other one where the characters are quirkless and overall bland? Again, not saying that being a lolicon is a good quirk but this trend is so big in Japan and people there see it as a meme more than anything. In the west people still saying that pedophilia is involved without being aware of the cultural shift and all that stuff. My point is that normal human beings wouldn't be influenced by anime to do major things, in the worst case they will have higher expectations for reality and so what you said is true for weak minds that are not used to reality.
On the harem part I meant the Harem echii series where there is a protagonist and girls attracted to him for no reason. You know what I am talking about, the A B C D cup girls and the dumb, smart, outgoing etc personality types repeated over and over. Those are fun for more people than the ratings show so thats what I meant and the maths won't help count that .
Back on the controversial part, harassing a child is not alright but here we talking about anime, one that doesn't take itself serious at that. Are you the kind that thinks that people watching niche hentai like loli, tentacle, mind break etc are sick fucks? In my opinion the problem here is that you are taking anime too seriously and even compare it to reality. There is no problem in being disgusted with its themes but you said that we have different views on sexual harassment when in reality all I did was describing what I am ok with happening in the fictional world that anime provides. Never mentioned reality in what I said.
I don't really know what to say about what Theron Martin said. From the screenshots there is clearly a rape going on that is for sure. But I have never seen the anime, maybe you did. Was that guy possessed? If yes, it still was rape but from what I read in there they were on relatively good terms after that and even the girl covered for him. Correct me if I am wrong I just jumped from paragraph to paragraph, not really reading the entire thing. I think the guy didn't use the right words. I am also feeling some feminist vibes in there.
Maybe I do have a problem but the main thing when I watch anime should be FUN so if I find a disturbing thing fun am I having a problem? Hell no, because thats what anime is for, having fun despite what others think. I am currently doing a master's degree in Genetics and Bioengineering so I am not some barbarian with lowlife taste or anything of the sort.
TL:DR A productive member of society is still a productive member of society even if he/she watches loli rape hentai etc. Also people have a complex mental and are not easily brainwashed/influenced by anime.
Sry if anything in here offended you but I kinda felt indirectly accused of being a person I am not and felt the need to clarify some things.
Well, you are right, Eromanga isn't really about incest but about "indulging the fantasy of people who feel it's too difficult to establish and maintain a romantic relationship with a woman even though they still want one" (basically an incel). Here is the catch: do you know why harems have so many views and a really low mean score? It is for the same reason, some are sad/lonely or just horny so they just hop in there, have a blast watching that thing and then they look back on it like: "hmm this looks bad and poorly made and I should be ashamed of myself for watching it so I will rate it lower than I wanted." I think the same thing goes to Eromanga. I personally hated it because I have a little sister myself and I know the struggle so that show seems disgusting to me but I am not degrading anyone liking it.
UzaMaid has this "pedophile" girl and the tsundere loli that is being teased. I am not getting grossed out no matter what happens because it feels way more natural when 2 females make sexual jokes to one another compared to when there is a male and a female. I would say that age isn't relevant here because whats happening is sexual harassment meant as teasing not as a legitimate yuri romance inclination. From the first episode I would say there would be a bond happening over time and everything would be just "dumb fun". So your statement is correct but not really true if you know what I mean. If actual pedophilia happens then yeah thats fucked up but for now this is great imo. I guess I can call it a guilty pleasure if some people actually consider it disgusting.
I am a straight male so what do I know, right? haha
In Anima yell there are the most basic cute girl in high school tropes like wanting to make a club, then revealing that you need 5 members, then searching for them, then somehow getting all of them, then everyone is happy or everything just crumbles in the end. I have only seen the first season of K-on but that too had the member gathering and club forming part so thats why I said its similar in a way.
I am curious too about what they would do with Zombieland Saga in the future but the first episode was well made imo. I don't know if your pun was intended or not but you cracked me up when you said that they will "flesh things out more" in a show about zombies haha.
I will try to watch most of the stuff coming out this season even though I usually don't do this since more than 50% of the shows will be dropped. I don't really want to accept mediocrity in anime anymore because instead of wasting my time watching an anime that is a 4-5/10 for me I would rather drop it and use my time doing better things.
I think Ushio to Tora is not objectively the best shounen but it was the first one that hit me with an unexpected ending and lots of feels from a seemingly "battle focused" series. After watching it, plot twists and sad endings felt less impressive in comparison. I plan on completing Oniisama e... soon but now I am looking for something that isn't in 4:3 ratio so I took a break from it.
Uchi no Maid ga Uzasugiru! gave me a vibe similar to Eromanga Sensei. It feels like same concept different fetish. For me it proved to be a fun show that doesn't shy away from gross humor and such things. It is a 7-8/10 for me now but I can understand why you wouldn't like it. Anima Yell was a disappointment but at least it is watchable. It has way too many tropes and cliches from shows like Love Live, k-on and so on.
My favorite show this season is Zombieland Saga. I am really liking the character designs and the comedy is alright. The creative concept of the show makes it all the more enjoyable. Japan sure loves their idol shows.
I agree that with all the hype behind the JoJo part 5 it will be really surprising if they fail. David Production are getting better and better with everything they do and I feel like they made a name for themselves with the unique sound effects and color pallet they use for each show. It feels like the less sophisticated and less clean version of studio Shaft. From the first episode it seems like JoJo isn't lackluster in anyway and everyone did their job well. Hopefully it will be a fun ride until the end.
Edit: I don't like NGE
I watched the trailer for Okoshiyasu, Chitose-chan and it feels really sluggish and cheaply made. Maybe the cutesy scenarios will make up for that. As you said a little weekly dose of charm is welcome.
I read the manga for Bloom into you online and as you probably know its not finished yet so I hope as well to not be the usual "phase" you get out of eventually. From what I read I can say it is pretty melodramatic and I feel like it tries too hard to be sad but people these days are into heavy drama I assume otherwise I can't fathom why Violet Evergarden has so many diehard fans. It has lighthearted moments too but the main point is drama I would say.
I like some show with "cute boys" but most of them are reverse harems so this is a no go for me. I can't see this topping "Free" but I can see it deliver same vibe so it may be good especially if it is from KyoAni.
As for me I will try most of what is out there except the sequels because I either dropped or have not seen the original.
I have high expectations for Karakuri Circus. Probably a shounen battle series but it was made by the same guy who did Ushio to Tora so I hope it is good. I see you put Ushio to Tora on hold and that is understandable since the first part is mostly episodic. 2nd season connects everything together and reaches a satisfying conclusion.
I am also curious if comedies such as Anima Yell or Uchi no Maid ga Uzasugiru! will be as good as Hinamatsuri from 2 seasons ago. Doga Kobo is relatively known studio so hopefully they will make the best out of those shows.
JoJo of course is the star here. I read a bit of the manga but it becomes black and white from a point so the highly detailed art looks weird when its not colorized.
Are you hyped for anything in the next season besides JoJo?
