But at the end it is the greatest comedy currently. The characters are amazing.
I liked the final anatagonist, but I wouldn't highly praise him.
And when it comes to shounen, especially battle shounen I think that there are a few more that do it better than Gintama.
For me it's just the best comedy with a great setting etc.
There are a few shounen I would rate over Gintama.
I mostly enjoy the comedy and the characters, I think the story is a decent shounen.

A manga I recently read and would 100% recommend is 20th Century Boys. It's also a psychological work and was written by the same guy that wrote Monster.
So I am taking it easy right now and playing some Ni no Kuni ^^
