Hello!~~ Welcome to my Page

Hello!~~ Welcome to my Page

Hey there. My online friends normally call me Mei or Chizu(e), depending from where or when they got to know me.
I am 33 years old and I am from the southern region of Germany.

In my spare time I like to watch anime, read manga and play video games. In the last 3 years or so, I finally started collecting manga again, having stopped in my youth after collecting mainly Dragon Ball, which is still my favourite manga. Maybe it is nostalgia, but it is the only manga I can start reading and get totally lost in, even 20 years later.
For the past ~14 years I've read my manga mostly online and I'd guess around 2000 titles or even more, though many series were never finished because they weren't fully scanned.
Most of them were shoujo or josei titles, as it's easier for me to read on screen. But I also enjoy a lot of shounen and seinen titles and many different genres.
At the moment I am a student at a university again. I am studying information science to become a librarian. So my time is sometimes a bit limited.

I am easily pleased by most anime and manga, that's why I give out many 8's, 9's and 10's in my ratings and mostly judging the enjoyment I felt watching the show. It's not that I can't think critically, it's just not worth it for me to do this with something I like to enjoy. So I tend to not think so hard about the details. Also I just don't watch stuff I don't like.

Most of the time I decline friend requests because I usually receive them without any context or note and it just seems to increase their friend count. However, if you are interested in writing to me, I will gladly accept friend requests and answer you. :)

The new Shaman King has 52 episodes, I also don't mind those formats that were more common in the past, as long as they had content to it. As you said, pacing is key.

I also enjoyed Looney Tunes, but the most popular Bugs Bunny is from the 50s so he is older than the 70s anime lol
Talking about subs, in the 2000s people would put a lot of TN in animes, remember? I miss those on some contexts, for instance I just finished Seitokai Yakuindomo and it has a lot of innuendos that can't be translated, I was able to pick only a handful, but I wouldn't mind having some TN here and there explaining a joke that only makes sense in Japanese. I don't miss when sub teams would write in the sub "it was all part of the keikaku" and add a TN "'keikaku' means plan". (PS it just occured to me, maybe the famous "TN: 'keikaku' means plan" was actually because when the first person wrote the subs they hardcoded the subs, but didn't know what "keikaku" meant, so a second person came and added the TN part, but since the subs were hardcoded they couldn't edit, nor add the sub all over again.

KnY anime is almost over, might as well wait for the last season to come out, which will probably be like Shingeki no Kyojin's last season part 1, 2, 3.

Genkai dies by Toguro's hands in the anime after the semifinals - also the reason why Koenma becomes a memebr of Team Urameshi -, but she gets resurrected because Yusuke requests it as the champion.

Well... that was one of the reasons BG3 was successful, Larian took the early players' input and improved the game based on that. It is funny when companies got mad for Larian getting GOTY for "just" listening to players.
Really? Well... since I only solo the game I never had the opportunity to take part in a WoE, well tbh I got inside once as an Assassin just because I was curious and since you can hide as an Assassin it was quite easy to get to the Emperium, but I was easily killed by a High Wizard when I tried to destroy it.

Did you know they had a whole moral system in game that they just removed it last minute? Not only that, if you tried to sneak out of your dormitory "hall monitors" would go after you, like in that one quest.
Coop with those wizard battles that we are introduced early on and are just as quickly stopped would have been nice.
Also making it easier to mod the game, I don't understand how companies don't see that, why else do they think people still buy Skyrim? It is because it is easy af to mod, the game is 12 years old. There are teams transforming Skyrim in both Oblivion and Morrowind, and other teams that are expanding Skyrim to other provinces as well. It is kinda like when old people make movies/series for young people and young people don't like it, those old fools are so out of touch with reality.

I hope that you manage to figure things out, babysteps you don't need to try solving everything at once. BTW, about the sleeping thing, have you ever tried melatonin? I heard from some people that take it, I don't know if it is for your case, but maybe it is worth checking out?

It is okay, each with their own, right? Every season has a new anime so I don't bother about those things that much. BTW I am really enjoying Sousou no Frieren, it wasn't even on my list, but when I saw that rating I knew I had to at least give it a try, it is the top airing anime after all. Have you been enjoying it so far?
curvedtree Jan 13, 8:55 AM
1000? How much space does that take? Like 2 bookcases? More?

Besides Pluto, never heard of those 2 you mentioned.
Just to be sure, NGE is Evangelion, right?
The thing about Cowboy Bebop is that the main story is nice, but they spend too long on other stories that makes the anime unnecessarily long, if it was half the episodes and more focused in the main story, it would have been way more dynamic.

When you were younger a 70s anime was still on German TV?
Oh yeah... Pokémon and Digimon here had the same issue, I figure them as a late 90s early 00s animes, when I mentioned the 80s and 90s animes I meant stuff like Saint Seiya, Dragon Ball, Sailor Moon.

The art in JJK wasn't an issue for me, my problem was how the author took too long to explain how the world works and he cramped everything in the Shibuya Incident arc. I also disliked how pointless the sorcerers and curses ranking is, the protagonist starts the anime basically at the top of the ranking, so what is even the point? It is kinda like putting Ichigo from TYBW to kill hollows from the early days. I don't know if this aspect improved later on in JJK, maybe it did.
Do you have an idea of what you dislike on KnY? I had this weird impression that the characters looked too "round", I don't know, even the bad guys didn't look "bad" by the standard art style.

What did you dislike about Genkai dying? BTW do you want to know who I missed? Pu. That scene he is bringing Yusuke water is one of the most emotional scenes in the anime, specially with the sad OST.

I see... well, as I said, I only have Ragnarok experience, and considering how episodes are/were released first in South Korea, maybe they had enough time to polish everything before those episodes were introduced to other countries. BTW I don't know if it was localised, or if Germany had a place of its own, but in Brazil there was a city called Brasilis, did you also have access to it or was it something particular to Brazil? Or did Germany have a city of its own?

Since you played it, let me ask you this: were you also expecting that when you picked a house you would have house related quests? I mean, sure the main story wouldn't change, maybe a minor detail here and there, but I really was hoping for a 4 gameplay experience. I had this image in my head that I would do exclusive quests for each house that could only be given if you were a part of that house. I know some people were expecting Quidditch, even though the devs said over and over there wouldn't be none, but maybe as a DLC? Not only that, we are basically one year from its release and they didn't give us any extra content. Sure, PC and Xbox will get the Lucky Potion and Haunted House quest (I guess that's how it is called) that were exclusive to Playstation, but that's it. Maybe the fault is my own, for expecting too much. I just know that I won't buy a second one, at least not until I learn everything the game will actually have.

Oh... I'm sorry, are those issues related with stress? Can you do something about it to diminish its effects on you?

Maybe that's the thing, I know that in the end the sister won't die and I understand how this is a comic point of the show, but this lack of stakes makes it all pointless to me, they can take the long road, hunt for the rarest of all creatures and ingredients, the dragon will keep waiting to digest the girl.

How many manga collections do you have?

Speaking of Sci-fi, what are your thoughts on Cowboy Bebop?

So you are a Kono Oto Tomare OG? I have it in my to read list, but what really touched me was the OST. I would occasionally tune in to Tenkyuu and get chills all over.
I don't know about Germany, but Latin America has to thank the French for anime, when they bought anime rights in the 80s/90s we ended up buying from them, there was a downside to it as well, since the voice actors would get the French version we would translate something that was already translated, so some bits of characters and story would be lost.

Oh... I barely remember that one, I only watched episode 1, instant drop for me.

I dropped JJK a long time ago, I was surprised when I heard some spoilers related to the girl that had those nails (not fingernails, "hammer" nails), I liked her. I was considering watching the anime, maybe my issue was just with the manga.

Rurouni Kenshin live-action is good though, at least the first two. I have watched some others like FMA and Kaguya-sama and they are indeed quite often bad.
I hated Yuu Yuu Hakusho live action. The first two episodes I was "okay, not my taste but lets see", but they ruined the best tournament arc in anime history by condensing everything in the remaining episodes. If the live action was until the first time they fight Toguro, it would have been perfect and next season we would have the Dark Tournament, such a shame.
I know about that episode, it was the Porygon episode, it premiered only in Japan, once, it was then banned.

Baldur's Gate 3 definitely worked itself from DOS2, but my main issue with BG3 is that your character won't be as strong as your DOS2. It is not that Dungeons&Dragons - which BG3 is based on - don't allow your characters to be strong, no, power is limitless in D&D, but the spells in BG3 are capped. Also, the combat is a bit different from DOS2, in BG3 you have to either short rest or long rest so you can cast powerful spells again (like in D&D). But if you already played D&D and likes it, disregard what I said.

I loved Morroc too, remember the castle in the middle of the town before the Satan Morroc episode?
Bugs in an online game? Is it common? I don't remember bugs in Ragnarok, even though it was the only game of the genre I played.
Oh... I bought last year out of impulse Hogwarts Legacy on pre-sale, I legit thought it would have been way different, it is not bad, it is just disappointing. To be fair, they never promised what I was expecting, but still. Also, the fact that there is a lot of cut content in the game files that you can't access.

Are you enjoying what you are currently studying?

That's exactly my point, I mean, I have no issue with them leisurely walking around the dungeon, finding a Mushroom monster to cook some funghi, or to use a Slime's slime as a... idk, whatever a slime do, that's the point of the anime after all. My issue is creating this sense of urgency to save the protagonist's sister but then he is also like "boy oh boy I wonder how a Monster Bat soup would taste like", specially after the 1st episode where he doesn't let one of his companion stop to eat. I would have liked it better if we didn't have this fake sense of urgency, and it was just people interested in eating the dragon after getting their butts kicked by it.
curvedtree Jan 11, 5:29 AM
IMO Re:Zero has an interesting world with interesting characters, but the protagonist spoils it to me.
Are there officially coloured mangas? I have only seen those that fans do it.

I can relate to that, checking back previous seasons most animes I watched I wouldn't recommend to others, but sometimes we have to give it a try and surprise ourselves. I am not a big fan of Music anime, but I loved Kono Oto Tomare and I watched it by chance, even if most of the times what I watch are a miss.
"it's one of the isekai with the insanely long name" oh.. so that's one of the 99% of existing isekai, got it lol

I don't mind spoilers either, but better be safe than sorry. Some people take spoilers too seriously!

I will be waiting for your input on Dungeon Meshi then 😉

One Piece's live action managed to burst the bubble somehow, there are a lot of people that were not inclined to watch the anime - because it is so long - but after the live action they started watching it. I didn't watch it though lol did you?
"She was very religious" say no more. It was back when Pokemon and Digimon were things of the devil here, terrible times for anime fans, people were brainwashed against anime for some reason.
I started playing Baldur's Gate 3, but my videocard died on me. It was fun, but I like Divinity Original Sin better.
I only played one MMORPG called Ragnarok Online in the early 2000s, and then out of nostalgia in the early 2010s on private servers because the xp rate in the official server is so bad that it takes forever to level up, but I noticed I spent most of my time soloing that I guess I was missing the purpose of the "multiplayer" bit. Epic gaveaway The Elder Scrolls Online, I might give it a try once I get a new videocard because I like the universe of The Elder Scrolls.
Well, I really like Skyrim and Mass Effect (except Andromeda), I also play some Civilization. In the end, I don't give new games a try, I don't know why, I just don't feel like it, so the "new" things I play are games from the franchises I already know, or when a game burst the bubble.

If you don't mind me asking, what are you studying?
curvedtree Jan 10, 1:09 PM
Do you have something in specific that you dislike about manhwa? I hate the whole "damsel in distress" cliche, women can be feminine and still kick ass, they can also be in a dreary situation and don't be like: "oh... when my knight in shining armour will appear?" It is so pathetic how they write some female characters, for instance, and Re:Zero fans get mad when I say this: Emilia - the female protagonist - had a great start, she was bad ass, she fought on her own powerful enemies, next seasons she becomes a damsel in distress, waiting to be saved by the worst Isekai male protagonist ever. lol I wouldn't assume you would have something against the Chinese just because you don't enjoy listening to Mandarin 😊
I agree with you about mangas, but the few graphic novels I read I prefer when they are coloured, except when there is a reason for it being black-and-white.

I might take more chances than you with animes then, and that's also why I am okay with quickly dropping animes I started and didn't like. Until some years ago I would force myself to finish, not anymore.

So you don't know what happens in SxF Season 2? I'm glad I didn't say any spoilers lol

That sure is a lot to watch, and worst thing is that something more than 50% of the original Shaman King is not canon, did you watch the original? As a whole, I liked it better, even though the ending was kinda cheesy. The real ending is "better", but it is also kinda cheesy. So, yeah, maybe watching the new Shaman Kind is for the best if you want to watch Flowers.
I was reading Dosanko Gal wa Namaramenkoi manga too, not that far though, but it was fun.
Dungeon Meshi seems interesting, but after you watch it let me know your thoughts about the "problem" they have to solve.

Oh... that's a shame, I bet she watched One Piece live action and changed her mind about anime lol. Do you still play video games? What do you like to play?
curvedtree Jan 9, 3:18 PM
I am not big on manhwa either, I also don't like manhua and that prejudice kinda stops me from watching the aeni and donghua. I did try a few though, but the difference between those and Japanese is quite large, they still have a long way to go. Maybe I will give it a go as the season go by if it has a good score, that's how I started watching Sousou no Freiren at least.

Well, I usually have 10+ animes each season, and either I keep them on my PTW list, or if I did start them, but I didn't like them I just drop them, are you okay with dropping animes or do you force yourself to finish them?

I wasn't a big fan of the most recent season of Spy x Family, I do remember the events in the manga and I was quite hyped for it, but I don't think they were as good as season 1, specially Part 2. Just to make it clear, it is still good, but not as good.

I have plenty to watch this season: Mahou Shoujo ni Akogarete, Mato Seihei no Slave, Dungeon Meshi (this one kept being post-poned for some time, I don't know the story, but I am kinda excited), Mashle 2nd season, Nozomanu Fushi no Boukensha (idk why I picked this one, but I found the 1st episode really cool, kinda like "So I am a Spider, so what?"). And I have some others that either I didn't start or didn't premiere yet like: Kekkon Yubiwa Monogatari, Dosanko Gal wa Namara Menkoi, Himesama "Goumon" no Jikan desu, Shaman King: Flowers (more out of curiosity since I watched the original run and the recent remake), Metallic Rouge and Majo to Yajuu, besides the Yubisaki to Renren we already mentioned.

I hope that you get to read it then, I started Asadora! because it was in one of MAL's challenges and I liked it, but I never read a publishing work by him before and wow, he takes forever to release new chapters.

I am Brazilian 🇧🇷 :)
curvedtree Jan 8, 7:40 PM
I have Yubisaki to Renren on my list too, as for the others I didn't even consider, which is a good thing, just show a wide variety of animes we have to pick nowadays. I hope that you do well on your exams then, it is only the beginning of the season after all, it can wait a bit.

I never heard of Billy Bat before, I'll save it on my list. I have the Perfect Edition of Monster, the 18 volumes are condensed in 9 and they are of high quality a nice purchase! Either the anime or the manga are good choices, I asked about Monster because your profile mentions you are from Germany and Monster is set on Germany as well. I remember back then, finding a tumblr where someone went to some of the places that Urasawa drew and they did a comparison between manga and irl and it was pretty much the same thing, nice attention to details.
curvedtree Jan 8, 11:59 AM
Bleach, Kono Oto Tomare, Yuu Yuu Hakusho, nice favourite list! Are you watching any of the current seasonal anime? Also, have you ever considered watching/reading Monster?
