Anime about people who use strange creatures to fight. Both are darker and more psychological than they initially seem, though Mai-Hime is much better. Both include several different genres and jump around between them.

add

Dramatic and dark psychological stories involving high school students with different powers, though DICE makes it out more like a game whereas Fukashigi Philia is about fighting for justice. They both have a little romance as well, but the main focus is on the mysterious characters, powers, and events taking place in the story.

Similar emphases on family and both leave you with a similar satisfying feeling. Plenty of drama, heartbreak, and a little comedy to make these slice of life stories about families growing up some of the best anime there are. Clannad After Story has more romance and much more drama while Wolf Children has more emphasis on the kids growing up and discovering who they want to be.

Mashiro-iro Symphony: The Color of Lovers
add

The main protagonist and his younger sibling start attending new schools and meet new friends (mostly girls). Both have a mix of comedy and drama, but Hoshizora has more comedy than Mashiroiro. The girls all have a wide variety of hair colors and styles, and there is a small amount of nudity in each.

Lots of time travel and drama with a little romance thrown in as well. Both start off a little slow and get more dramatic and intense as they go. Steins;Gate focuses more on how the time travel works while The Girl Who Leapt Through Time focuses more on it's effects on the world around the person.

Harem anime that, unlike most harem shows, don't immediately make it obvious who the guy will end up with. Both have five girls and one guy (though not all of those girls have romantic feelings for the guy) and they each have bright, unique hair colors and archetypes.

ēlDLIVE
add

Both are written by the same author and follow a middle school boy who has always been made fun of for different reasons (in KHR, Tsuna always messes everything up and in elDLIVE, Chuuta talks to a voice in his head that only he can hear). They soon discover there is much more to them than meets the eye when a small "creature" appears and introduces them to a completely different world (Vongola in KHR; Space Police in elDLIVE). The boy is reluctant to get involved but eventually realizes he doesn't have much of a choice. The art styles, feelings (aside from elDLIVE starting off a slightly less comedically [at least looking at the first chapter]), and characters are all very similar. The few differences so far are the very different settings (though both have sci-fi aspects), and the main female love interest in elDLIVE also appears to hate the protagonist while in KHR she is very friendly.

Iron Knight
add

Dark, shounen action/fantasy manga. Both are about boys caught up in a violent world full of monsters who are trying to eradicate humans (goblins in Iron Knight and titans in SNK). The main protagonist lost his mother as a child and has an odd relationship with his father. He also has a very strong bond with his female childhood friend. The main character unintentionally acquires powers in order to fight the monsters and is determined to save as many people as he can.

They both are about girls who acquire magical powers and use these powers to fight monsters. Mai-hime has a much larger character cast though and is more about magic and mecha monsters as power whereas Symphogear is about music and has more science fiction. Mai-Hime is much stronger all around, but they are still similar in many ways.

Plots, animation, and characters have many ups and downs throughout the series. They have similar large-scale endings (though Gurren Lagann to a much more extreme degree). Characters must cope with losses, decide which side they are on, and work together in order to defeat a powerful enemy. Whereas Gurren Lagann has mechs, Symphagear has a sci-fi battle armor.

Yahari Ore no Seishun Love Comedy wa Machigatteiru.
add

High school comedies about a club who solves mysteries or helps people out at their school. Both shows have great and relatable male leads: one is just plain lazy and the other is intentionally and unintentionally a loner. Both have small amounts of romance but it is not a major plot point in either. The biggest difference is that Oregairu has more drama than Hyouka (which is about 95% comedy so that's not saying much).

The characters are very similar both in appearance and personalities - Outgoing leader (Ritsu and Sakura) - Best friend of the outgoing leader [only ones with drastically different personalities despite similar designs] (Mio and Botan) - Rich girls who are literally clones aside from the tea (Mugi and Claire) - Adorable airhead (Yui and Karin) - "Mature" one who is quick to point out all of the dumb and incorrect things everyone says (Azusa and Natsuki) They are all in clubs (Light Music Club/Going Home Club) in which they usually do absolutely nothing except talk and be moe. K-On is also about music whereas KKK is about breaking the 4th wall.

Date A Live
add

A guy is caught up in a supernatural situation where he has to take girls on dates. The protagonist of the World God only Knows however is self-capable of this task most of the time while the protagonist of Date A Live needs a lot of help in order to date about 1/5 of the girls of the other. Date A Live is also more ecchi and has action and mechs in addition to the dating sim style harem setup.

These two anime are similar because they both are dark, supernatural action shows involving high school students and have similar ecchi levels. One guy in both series has several girls around him (though 11eyes has another guy as well). They have very similar feelings with good animation and soundtracks (though 11eyes is a little better in both categories in my opinion). They also have similar unexplained elements in the stories, especially when dealing with the groups that pull the strings behind the scenes.

Two of the worst OVAs out there. The only reason to watch either is just to laugh at how bad they are. Both are made by the same company, Idea Factory, and lower budgets than middle school film projects. Neither is even the length of a normal anime episode, and they have plots that attempt to be very psychological but fail incredibly. Stereotypical, pointless characters and bad animation with mediocre soundtracks (MoD's isn't even new it's just common classical music). Both try way too hard to be similar to Neon Genesis Evangelion. Both failed and have now become two of the lowest rated shows on MAL.

Both are very gory manga with a lot of death. They both have main characters who are very close siblings who have an odd relationship with their mysterious fathers. Both are about small groups of girls dressed in high school uniforms who are sent to an abandoned city (one is in the future and one was filled with toxic radiation). They have similar personalities with a level-headed leader, a childish and hungry girl, etc. They are both science fiction shows but Coppelion has action while Arata naru Sekai does not.

A boy has dedicated his life to meeting a girl from his elementary school once again. He is full of despair, thoughts of suicide, and thinks his life is going nowhere. The difference is that in Punpun, the two got along as kids whereas in Koe no Katachi, they were "enemies." They are both full of romantic dramas about people growing up and becoming more and more mature. Punpun is very heavy on the psychological aspect and is much more mature than Koe no Katachi, but KnK also has some of those aspects as well.

While Tasogare Otome x Amnesia only has a little horror in it, the horror parts have a very similar feeling to all of Corpse Party. They involve ghosts who were horribly killed in the past and now reside in a school. Corpse Party is extremely gory while the other has hardly any in comparison.

Psychological horror anime (well, Corpse Party makes DR look extremely tame in comparison) that feature a group of students trapped in a mysterious school and no way out. Horror anime involving a group of students where many people die gruesomely (but the gore is much more extreme in Corpse Party than Higurashi). Groups of high school students are killed in mysterious ways by some seemingly supernatural occurrence. Another goes outside of the school while Corpse Party only takes place inside a school, but the school buildings are similar and creepy (despite Another's being to a far lesser extent). They have similar character designs and the characters have similar psychological breakdowns due to the extreme situations they are placed in, but Corpse Party is about ten times gorier than Another.

Both have the characters transported to a different version of their own world. There, they use skills they gained by playing a lot of video games in order to aid in order to live in that world. They involve romance, magic, sword fighting, groups of people fighting (in Oda Nobuna no Yabou it is armies while in Log Horizon it is guilds), etc. They both have some moe character designs for the girls, but it much more apparent in Oda Nobuna no Yabou.
