They involve villages that are far removed of other societies in remote parts of Japan (though Shinsekai Yori adds in a post-apocalyptic theme as well).

Lighthearted slice of life shows about a group of girls who all practice together but often get sidetracked (though not as much in Aria as in K-On). Good animation despite some strange facial expressions during comedic moments (especially in Aria). Aria has more of a teacher/student relationship built up than K-On, but there is still one teacher in K-On who is somewhat similar to Akira in Aria.
