Production company Pony Canyon opened an official website for a new anime adaptation of Yudetamago's Kinnikuman (Muscle Man) manga on Friday, revealing a teaser visual (pictured). The new anime commemorates the original television anime's 40th anniversary.

Yudetamago serialized the action comedy manga in Weekly Shounen Jump from 1979 to 1987. The manga returned on the ShuuPlay News web magazine in 2011. Shueisha shipped the 81st volume on Friday.

Weekly Playboy serialized two sequel manga from 1997 to 2011. Shueisha released the second manga's 28th and final volume in December 2011.

Toei Animation produced the original 137-episode television anime that aired from April 1983 to October 1986. The franchise has inspired multiple sequels, movies, and special releases over the years.

4Kids Entertainment licensed the Kinnikuman II Sei anime series and aired it on Fox's Fox Box programming block in the United States. Discotek Media licensed the series on October 25.

Synopsis
Kid Muscle isn't anybody's idea of a hero. Lazy and cowardly, he's more interested in snacking than fighting. But he's also the son of legendary intergalactic wrestler King Muscle—and when evil threatens the galaxy, the Kid's true muscles bulge through!

A gang of evil wrestlers called the DMP is trashing the Earth, squashing innocent citizens and laughing at all efforts to stop their reign of terror. Obviously, Kid Muscle has only one choice: organize a wrestling gang of his own to destroy the DMP and set things right. But before they can take on the DMP, Kid Muscle and his new partners must prove their mettle by defeating the most renowned fighters in the known universe. For Kid Muscle, that means taking down the one wrestler he never wanted to face in the ring: dear old Dad! (Source: VIZ Media, edited)

Man, with how long the manga is (and ongoing) I wonder if this will be a lengthy Toei anime.

I hope for the 50+ episodes adaptation where the previous one stopped.

Used to watch this on tv when I was a kid. If it's a remake I'll watch.

And I'm hoping for a reboot plus sequel because I haven't watched a thing from the franchise yet.

Seems fairly interesting, I'll keep an eye on this one.
