Manga 'Ao Ashi' Receives TV Anime for Spring 2022
Publisher Shogakukan announced a television anime adaptation of Yuugo Kobayashi's Ao Ashi (Aoashi) on Friday. The anime series is scheduled for premiere in Spring 2022.Synopsis
Ashito Aoi is a young, aspiring soccer player from a backwater town in Japan. His hopes of getting into a high school with a good soccer club are dashed when he causes an incident during a critical match for his team, which results in their loss and elimination from the tournament. Nevertheless, he catches the eye of someone important who happened to be visiting from Tokyo. How will things turn out for Ashito? (Source: Shogakukan Asia)
Kobayashi began drawing the soccer manga based on Naohiko Ueno's original draft in Big Comic Spirits in January 2015. Shogakukan published the 24th volume on Friday. The manga has a cumulative 7.5 million copies of its volumes in print.
Ao Ashi won the 65th Shogakukan Manga Awards in the General category last year and was nominated for the 10th Manga Taisho awards in 2017.

Surprised to see this manga getting an adaptation. That said, I'm looking forward to it. At last another good sports series and not one of these half-assed anime originals.

This is one of the best ongoing sports manga and generally one of the best sports series I've ever come across. I'm glad to see it's finally getting an anime.
