A Hollywood live-action film adaptation of ONE and Yusuke Murata's One Punch-Man manga series is being developed by Sony, according to a report by entertainment news outlet Variety on Tuesday.

Screenwriter Scott Rosenberg and film producer Jeff Pinkner—known for writing Venom and Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle—are penning the live-action film at Sony Pictures. Avi Arad (Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse) and Ari Arad (Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance) of Arad Productions are producing the film.

Synopsis
After rigorously training for three years, the ordinary Saitama has gained immense strength which allows him to take out anyone and anything with just one punch. He decides to put his new skill to good use by becoming a hero. However, he quickly becomes bored with easily defeating monsters, and wants someone to give him a challenge to bring back the spark of being a hero.

Upon bearing witness to Saitama's amazing power, Genos, a cyborg, is determined to become Saitama's apprentice. During this time, Saitama realizes he is neither getting the recognition that he deserves nor known by the people due to him not being a part of the Hero Association. Wanting to boost his reputation, Saitama decides to have Genos register with him, in exchange for taking him in as a pupil. Together, the two begin working their way up toward becoming true heroes, hoping to find strong enemies and earn respect in the process. [Written by MAL Rewrite]

ONE originally launched One Punch-Man as a webcomic in July 2009. Yusuke Murata (Eyeshield 21) began redrawing the action superhero manga on the Tonari no Young Jump website in June 2012. Shueisha published the 21st volume on December 4 last year. One Punch-Man has a cumulative 20 million copies of its compiled volumes in circulation.

Madhouse adapted the manga into a 12-episode television anime in Fall 2015. Daisuki, Hulu, and VIZ Media's Neon Alley platform streamed the anime with subtitles as it aired in Japan. Adult Swim's Toonami programming block debuted the show with an English dub in July 2016. VIZ Media released the anime series on home video in North America in April 2017.

A second season produced by animation studio J.C.Staff premiered in 12 episodes in Spring 2019. Crunchyroll and Hulu simulcast the anime in Europe and North America, respectively. Toonami aired the second season with an English dub in October 2019.

VIZ Media began serializing One Punch-Man in English in its Shounen Jump Alpha digital anthology in January 2013 and currently simulpublishes the manga on its new Shounen Jump platform with the Japanese release. The 19th volume shipped on March 3. The manga has also been published in multiple foreign languages.

They better cast Johnny Sins as Saitama, or I'm not even going to acknowledge this adaptation.

Oh my god! YES!!!!
That would be the most funniest thing to ever happen. Would love to see Johnny play the beloved superhero we all know in love.

I suppose with superheroes being the big thing, this is probably the best time to try.

I am so excited to see this crash and burn. Watching movie studios trying to adapt anime is like watching monkeys figure out how electricity works.
They'll get it eventually... maybe.

This is going to be a disaster... One Punch-man's humor is very Japanese, and full of manga and anime references... It simply won't work as Western movie without it be something totally different.

Is going to be CG as hell of everything. From putting an image with gathered experience it probably going to be passable for this type of anime.

Slight disappointment if michael bay isn't aiding the making.

I just hope hollywood doesn't impose its pc and sjw nonsense that ruined every production.

It'll be interesting to see who they cast Saitama as. It look like a joke if the casting is bad.

I have no opinion about Sony Pictures developing the adaptation coz even though it's a big production house, I can't really rely on their experience. 20th Century Fox is also a big production house and they screwed up Dragon Ball Evolution before.

I really really love Venom so at least I can be hopeful about this adaption's screenwriting if they're done by the same team. And Spiderman: Into the Spider-verse is a critically acclaimed movie so maybe the producers will deliver some good materials for One Punch Man too? Idk.

It's probably down to the casting team next to make it or break it.

Not sure how to feel about this...I hate Hollywood adaptations of stuff like this but I am intrigued to see what the hell they’ll do

First Stein Gate now this...Hollywood is don't even understand anime culture, they care for profit

man this screams bad decision so much. I think the only way this could work is if the CG is top tier and the comedy hits home like it does with the MCU. if either one of those are subpar, this will be a dumpster fire. based on the Hollywood track record i'm pretty inclined towards dumpster fire
