Navarre CEO Cary Deacon has revealed that Navarre subsidiary FUNimation is now in negotiations to acquire distribution rights to some of Geneon USA's anime titles.

Good, now lets hope one of the titles is Black Lagoon Season 2

There are reports that Funimation is in very early talks with Geneon to acquire titles from Geneon's library of titles. There are, however, no reports of what titles or how many titles will be bought by Funimation.

This would appear as good news for any fans who were following Geneon's releases, as there were no previous reports (as far as I know) as to whether the series would ever be completed.

The article also indicates that ADV and Geneon used funds from Japanese investors to raise their bids on recent anime licences.

Funimation made $31.4 million in 3rd quarter earnings. This is down from last years $35 million. This profit, however, still met profit expectations.

Finally, I was waiting for FUNimation to get these. I was fortunate to get all of Fate/stay night when they were released by Geneon, but my friend's finace just recently got into the series a few months ago and wanted the DVDs, the cheapest either of us could find them for new was $65 on ebay plus $5 shipping. I recently watched Black Lagoon as well and wanted to get the DVDs, the cheapest I could find those for was $40 new. This is really great news considering Geneon had a lot of great titles.

Here is the article reporting on this great deal:

Please go here to do the poll on if this deal being great for anime/manga in general and to also post your ideas.

I think its great news. The more attention through distribution that anime gets, the more successful the anime/manga business becomes and the higher the chances of animes/mangas becoming completed. Just my opinion tho,

I finally get into anime and decide to plop down some hard cash and this happens! I bought up all the Kyou Kara Maou! i could get my hands on, Shounen Onmyouji (which I finished because I went and bought the import-not a great idea since it's quality is questionable) and want Seirei no Moribito which Geneon also licensed. I feel like I'm cursed.

This stuff with Geneon just makes me glad I only buy complete box sets, not individual discs. ^^; I'd hate for this kind of thing to happen in the middle of my collection and not know whether I'll ever see the second half.

I'd really love a Higurashi box though. Seeing it in DVD (or HD, mm!) glory would be wonderful.

Hopefully they won't redub the series that they acquire though. As long as they don't change voices in the middle of a series, I'd be happy.

Also Last Exile had a thinpack. The Range Murata set.

And CCS had the Clow book and Sakura Book sets that were released a little more than 2 years ago if you were lucky enough to get one.

As long as they finish Higurashi then I'm good. Rozen Maiden can vanish for I care.
