The official website of Square Enix's Gangan Online magazine has announced that Satsuki Yoshino's manga Handa-kun will receive a TV anime adaptation.

Handa-kun is a prequel to Yoshino's Barakamon manga, which was adapted into a TV anime in 2014. That series was animated by Kinema Citrus and aired for 12 episodes. Handa-kun takes place six years before the events of Barakamon during Seishuu Handa's time in high school.

The series began serialization in Shounen Gangan in 2013. Four volumes of the manga have been published by Square Enix, with a fifth volume scheduled for February 12. North American publisher Yen Press will release the first volume in English on February 23.

Synopsis
Seishuu Handa is admired by his peers as a calligraphy genius and given the utmost respect, but Handa-kun himself is under the mistaken impression that the deference and attention he receives from the other students is actually bullying. Handa just wants to live a quiet life, but hilarity ensues as one character after another challenges his position as the school idol, and somehow comes away as a fan all while Handa is horrified and clueless.

Man, This is bad. We won't be seeing Naru anytime soon.
Well maybe Handa's child and teen age life would be interesting.
So I'll check the manga first, then watch the anime later.

I'm a bit excited but this means no Naru, don't it? :(
I would've preferred a season 2 to this...

High School setting then, gross

High School settings are fine but with Barakamon they arnt, id rather have a Season 2 of him in the village because the village setting was what made Barakamon so good and with this its bassicly taking everything that makes the original manga/show good out and injecting in a overdone, generic, setting

ill watch it i guess

This really made my day.

It makes sense why they would adapt Handa-kun considering the prequel sells more than Barakamon.

Barakamon is my favourite anime and my favourite manga, Naru and Handa are my favourite characters. Thre is nothing in the series I did not love. I'm an avid reader of both Barakamon and Handa-Kun I cannot wait for the anime of Hanada-Kun.

I hope his old peers are just as entertaining as Naru and company. If not, I'd rather they make a sequel to Barakamon.

I've seen and read Barakamon and it was good and all but Handa-kun isn't. It's a prequel yes but not a good one. The Handa-kun manga is sort of bad. I hope they change some parts of Handa-kun and add new scenes. I'm afraid there is not much material in the manga to make an anime of.
Hope I'm wrong.
But no doubt this will be hilarious.
