Wish him luck.

So how old is he now? He might not even need another job if he got the cash.

Wonder what kind of career he's looking for next.

You're kidding me,right?
A person this talented who has directed 'motto to love ru' is going to retire because he doesn't have a very good hand in drawing?
He...he...he has no idea what he's doing...he can be a part of making an anime...it's my biggest wish to be a part of that...and he's just gonna let it go?

Not everyone is willing to change even after realizing they can't do something well. Then again, I don't know how much pressure was on the guy. Good luck to him anyhow.

^ To be precise he said ToLoveRu Darkness is his last in anime production work. This seems to mean that he is not only retiring from directing anime, but any work related to making an anime.

Well, that's just... sadly worded. Makes me feel bad for the guy. According to that list, the only thing I've seen of his is TLR Darkness... which I like a lot, but mainly due to me loving the manga and its predecessor seasons. It ain't bad to me.

Then why does the topic title say he retired?
Perhaps you should ask the initial poster?

What I understand is that he said he is retiring from anime production work, not general retirement.

My thoughts exactly.
What his Twitter said was "Working on an anime as a job ToLoveRu Darkness is the last" and "I will look for some other work".

Key animators don't really get paid much, they mainly join the industry because they love to draw. Unless you're working for KyoAni, it's a really irregular source of income.
Well, you can say the job of animators itself does not pay much, but the really miserable pay goes to those who do in-between animation job which is massive but also tedious. Much of the work now goes overseas to Korea, China, Vietnam even the Philippines but there are still this kind of work being done inside Japan.

He now wants to direct real 3D hotness instead of these censored 2D hotness.

All the more reason for me to buy ToLoveRu Darkness BDs.

Thank you, Kamitsubo-sensei !!

Was about time.

Maybe he wants to direct porno instead? There's enough ecchi scenes in the anime listed above to start him off.
