Hurray for magi, well deserved and perhaps more. It's been a while since I read a series, which dedicated to the shounen demographic, executed political struggle and mature theme amazingly well. It's everything that I seek for.

Naruto on top. Hmm, nice one.

I get it, I understand you. I know how things work, I simply like to use the word "milk". Are you angry? Because it seems so.

I think the word "milking" has become a cancer on the language of fandom, but it's just disappointing, not anger-inducing.

I'd say the same for the term "generic". If you look it up, its definitions have NOTHING to do with personal opinion, criticism, and/or tastes. <.<

So 55,691 for Vol. 8, though Vol. 9's LE didn't quite make it.

I can't find anything searching the forums with Google for Vol. 7 - anyone know how well that or earlier volumes sold?

I don't think Yuru Yuri has ever made it on the Oricon charts. I was worried when I saw that vol. 8 had only sold a little over 30k but it made me feel a lot better when I saw there was also a 'limited edition' release.

...It will be a great day when this use of the word "milking" dies.

Anime is a business. Print publishing is a business. Video games are a business. Making money is the point. What you call "milking" is what I call "doing their job and maintaining the industry". And good on them, because if they didn't we'd have almost no anime to watch or novels or read or games to play.

In any event, you're simplifying a bit - nobody ever wants to take a loss on adaptations (they may be prepared for it, and in some cases even expect it, but it's never the goal), so obviously there's a hope that the anime will also be a hit and make a lot of money. After all, the only thing better than driving up sales of the novels is driving up sales of the novels and making boatloads of money on a successful anime. I think the production values of the SAO anime so far speak for themselves - while the anime is an advertisement for the novels, it's also a completely legitimate piece of entertainment in its own right.

I get it, I understand you. I know how things work, I simply like to use the word "milk". Are you angry? Because it seems so.

Mostly just the anime. Hyouka got a HUGE boost as well from the anime.

Most anime adaptions are just advertisements for the original source material... so its just doing what the production committee expected.

What else would it be? =P Definitely all the anime.

Using the anime for sole purpose of promoting the original content seems like a excuse to milk more money though.

Didn't end up getting any of these, although I'll grab Nounai Poison Berry at some point.

What exactly gave SAO this boost? It's kinda hard to believe that's all the anime doing.

I'm sad that Yuru Yuri only sold ~25-30k for the last 2-3 volumes. No idea if that's good or not.

55k for v8, probably about 50k or so for v9 once you count the separate LE version.
Well I knew that but I counted the LE as separate :P. I'll count them as single from now on I guess.

I'm curious though. What's the norm for manga and LN sales? What's considered good, bad, average, etc. With such a huge range of sales #'s, it's hard to get an idea of what isn't doing well. For BDs/DVDs it's pretty easy to tell.

Basically my question is, what's the cutoff for cancellation? <10k?
