Japanese man arrested for auctioning pirated anime

An employee in Kakogawa City, Japan was arrested on Thursday for selling pirated DVDs of several anime series. The series that were pirated include Dragon Ball, Dragon Ball GT, and Mobile Suit Gundam ZZ. The man sold around ¥1 million ($9,000 USD) on the Wanted Auction website.

Seriously though, 9000 bucks is nothing when considering he's doing illegal business. I would not risk going to jail selling pirated anime just for that much, there is so much else easier illegal stuff you could do that gets you more money.

Besides, why was he selling Dragonball? The series has been over like 13 years now (Z at least), and the DVD's are getting so cheap that it's not even funny. Why don't people just import our American DVD's (which have Japanese Language on them) and pay just thirty some odd dollars for an entire legitimate season. >_>

Anime is more expensive in Japan than in most places. And I don't know about the others but at least Dragonball GT has been topping the weekly dvd sales results.

I have the doubt, in japan the anime is more cheap than in other places or not? I thought that the reasonm because the pirated anime doesnt work in japan

I would argue otherwise Nyhusern but this isn't the place, and it ultimately comes down to individual taste anyway. Dragonball- go that dude, possibly the same for Gundam, but I haven't seen that version? But GT- well he should have known better!
