Urobuchi Gen tweeted that he has been perplexed by the announcement of the Tokyo Anime Award 2012, in which he won the Best Scenario Writer award. According to him, the announcement was made without his approval. He said "Tokyo government praised me 'Your script is great!' while threatening the freedom of expression by an unreasonable ordinance." The executive committee of Tokyo International Anime Fair asked Urobuchi to submit a message in 200 characters by February 23rd. He took it as a precious chance to convey his opinion to Tokyo. "Although I'm good at writing a story of tormenting characters, I'm awful at composing a legal statement." So he asked the fans to compose a message to Tokyo instead of him. "Since I've been extremely busy, I cannot say thank you to all the messages. I'll upload the drafts from time to time to let you know the progress."

Gen is a pretty cool guy. Really enjoyed Saya no Uta - Madoka was okay. But overall, his stories are great.

Gen is a hero and cares about his profession and industry that supports him and just isn't in it for the money, the censorship in Japan is very much out of control, Comiket is in grave danger of being shut down, some hentai manga shops are being raided and loli/shota manga confiscated by police hired by Ishihara and even artists themselves are being unjustly thrown in the slammer for trumped up obscenity charges, more manga are slowly being restricted, Gokujyo also was a subject of an ep cancellation because of it.

You have a source about raids and comiket or is a personal speculation? I ask because lots of Lo and Sho stuff are adult doujinshi and magazines so already restricted and for what i see they are still ok, or things are changed in these last months? Just wondering because the last thing i hear about the bill was the Aki-Sora and Oku-sama case.

Okay, I am out of words here but I would like to just say this... Ask a lawyer to assist you Gen. I think that will really help when it counts down to legal cases.

Do you have any way of supporting your claims?

Yeah, the first thing, which came to my mind after reading it is "idiot". Surprisingly, it's the same thing I think hearing most of people whining about the Tokyo Bill (156). Maybe I should tweet about it...

I really love the fact that there's still people who care about the industry and want for it to evolve! instead of all the american greedy directors who only wish to remain under the same business model that is as old as dinosaurs. Thumbs up Urobuchi!

That reminds me, how the hell did Highschool DxD managed to get all those crap stuff past Ishihara's radar? I was thinking that the producers might have bribed him or something like that...

But anyway, I give a thumbs-up to Gen for doing so. He's one of those rare people who is really devoted and put in a lot of care for his work and the industry.

AT-X can air stuff 99% uncensored since it's a satellite channel and as for the little penis incident, I bet there was some bribary involved with that.

god bless him! the censorship going on in japan mirrors scary things happening here in the states, and it needs to stop - these right wing idiots want the whole world to be like it was in the past, but the world will continue to evolve with or without them - free artistic expression is a basic human right! you cannot legislate morality without becoming a fascist state!!!

There are so many reasons why I love Gen. Foremost must be that he genuinely cares about the industry. Say what you want about whether you like his writing or not, he's not in it for the money, he loves to express himself. This reminds me of what he wrote in the note for the Fate/Zero novel. How at that time almost 6 years ago he was worried about the state of the industry.
