Daisuke Niwa is an ordinary, if slightly unlucky, middle school student. On his fourteenth birthday, he comes down with a 'condition' that has plagued the men in his family for three hundred years. When he sees his crush, Risa, he transforms into his alter ego, the phantom thief Dark Mousy. Unfortunately, when Dark Mousy sees his crush, Risa's twin Riku, he transforms back into Daisuke. The only cure for this craziness is if Daisuke can get Risa to fall in love with him...
D.N.Angel was first published in English by Tokyopop, who released the first 13 volumes from April 6, 2004 to December 8, 2009 before the closure of their North American division. VIZ Media digitally republished the Tokyopop volumes under the VIZ Select imprint from April 1, 2014 to September 23, 2014.
I first saw the anime, and then the manga, compared the manga to the anime, the manga is way by far much better.
the story is very rich, the mystery in the story is so deep and fascinating.
the art gets better by every chapter into a outstanding art, the eyes, the clothes the scene actions with the flowing of emotions of the characters, is just amazing,Yukiru Sugisaki is one of the greatest artists I ever seen.
characters, in development is just very good, personalities so unique in each way, and gets a better developmeng in every chapter.
I enjoy a lot the manga, because his mystery, story and
characters, and the art being so amazing.
so yeah in general is brilliant from what I have read vol.20 stage 3, the most recent chapters from monthly Asuka magazine.
I've to admit when I read the first two volumes of D.N.Angel I didn't understand the story very well, but the drawing style and all of the characters which were introduced so far were amazing. I stopped reading D.N.Angel back then and later started to watch the anime, which is also very good, and tried to read the manga again. I managed it and here goes my first review~
The character design is very well, Yukiru Sugisaki has managed to create awesome clothes for Daisuke and his friends. Moreover the background is also drawn very well and one can say that Sugisaki has improved a lot
during her work.
The story is amazing but confusing at the beginning. It's much easier to get into the whole thing while watching the anime, but after some time you're also able to get into the story while reading the manga. The plot is easy (I won't go much into detail) and very well outlined. There are a lot of things happening which you haven't expected, but a lot of things happen you've expected, too.
Furthermore I would say that D.N.Angel is not only my favorite manga, but also a very, very good one which should be read by all of you who like mystery and all the other topics D.N.Angel is related to.
D.N Angel is yet again another one of those well known Shoujo mangas that are popular for all the wrong reasons.
Following along on the heels of the popular concept of master thieves such as Lupin the Third, Saint Tail or Kamikaze Kaitou Jeanne, D.N Angel follows the adventures of a 14 year old schoolboy and his alter ego, an immortal art thief.
Mixing magic, romance and stock bishounen, this is your very typical Shoujo manga that fails to rise above the over hyped expectations and the inflated, bias reviews from fangirls.
★ Story (4) - The main problem with this manga is that the "plot"
(if it can even be called that) has no real basis or substance. Instead, it carries itself on one escapade after another, going all over the place and in the end, moving nowhere. There's no proper explanation as to WHY the main character has an alter ego art thief, or WHY that alter ego must seal away art pieces.
The plot really suffers from poor writing, and what could have been a unique, great series with a wonderful concept, instead becomes a cliche, shallow little soap opera. Many of the chapters try to bring in new concepts, new problems etc. but as they are so badly explained, it is hard to understand what exactly is happening, and the story becomes choppy.
What the manga is sorely missing is a connecting POINT to all the adventures and the set up. As it has no point, it continually gets nowhere and many of the chapters are confusing as no explanation is offered.
What a pity that is, because there are many things in this series which, once given light to and explained, would have been very interesting.
★ Art (7) - The art of D.N Angel is quite appealing. Characters have large, detailed eyes, charming faces and some have the infamous anime spiked hair. Attention is to detail is apparent and the resulting art is quite satisfactory. It's not the best art work, but it is far from being the worst. It is good, but no where near great.
★ Character (5) - The sad part about the characters in D.N Angel, is that most of them are actually fairly likable, but so poorly developed that they fall back into stereotypes of typical Shoujo characters. Characters that start off as interesting with personalities not so typical in Shoujo manga all too quickly fall back into the clutches of the formulaic molds seen too many times in other series.
Characterization is very poor, and the characters suffer from the lack of it. Romance runs almost stupidly fast making the characters come across as shallow and not believable.
What these characters really need is time and plot to break out of the mold and become something interesting and memorable. For now, all they remain are the stereotypes of hot guy, whiny girl etc. that can be found in too many series.
★ Enjoyment (5) - This is a light, very silly series good for a rainy day or when there is nothing else to do. Or if you just cannot find something better to read.
★ Overall (5) - If you want something cliche and with no substance, this is for you. There's really nothing that stands out about this manga, as there is nothing unique about it. There could have been of course; but apparently the manga-ka couldn't make up her mind on which direction to take the story, and the result is a mess of what could have been.
Think if it like this(by the way im trying to reveal as little as possible)
this is d.n.angel the anime with couple of tweeks and no ending :D
well in english at least. The last volumes are out in japan i believe but not 100% sure.
the writer never finished until recently. if you loved the anime of dn angel you are guranteed to love this. the mood of the story is better and there are serveral things in the manga that isnt included in the anime. Like wise the anime has some stuff the manga does (like an ending). the art is very nicely drawn and the
story is much like the anime's story.
i definitely recommend it to all those that love romance dramas with bits of action on the side.
if you've seen the anime for d.n.angel. think of the manga as an alternate retelling instead of a clone.
