Story 10/10: As the story progressive it gets more and more interesting.

Characters 9/10: They did great on the characters even the supporter ones are not bad at all plus some bring good comic relief once in a while.

Enjoyment 9/10: Pretty fun to watch a kid, who uses real world science, with the help of his friends, create modern civilization again, while others are trying to stop it and more.

Overall 9.5/10: is an amazing manga for anybody. I promise you, you wont get bored with all the science stuff. That's part of the fun!.

This review is heavily based on personal opinion and may feel biased (which I don't disagree if you say so), feel free to agree or disagree.

Story: 9/10
The concept of rebuilding humanity from the stone age with all of the knowledge that we have from the modern age is truly amazing by itself. Dr. Stone not only presents this concept to the public (though may not be the first one to do so) and executes it very well.

Art: 10/10
The artwork from Boichi is truly outstanding, the high detail on the art really makes me appreciate it and wonders how does a man accomplishes this. The character ... designs, the details on the materials such as rocks and wood, it just all clicks.

Character: 7/10
Dr. Stone's main attraction for me isn't the character, however the clashing ideology between the protagonist Senku and the antagonist Tsukasa is something that I'm always interested to check out.

Enjoyment: 10/10
I love Dr. Stone, to the point that it's my favorite manga of all time. Seeing Senku and his friends make our everyday tools that we thought is impossible to make at the stone age is always thrilling. Every single chapter makes me wants more, and so far it hasn't disappointed me and I don't think it ever will.

Overall: 9/10
Dr. Stone is a Shonen Jump manga that tries to put the typical power progression system into technology and executes it magnificently.

Story: 8/10

The protagonists will have to restore mankind from the beginning, both in terms of people, and in technology. It is easy to understand and very fun to read, it also has the mystery behind the petrification, which ends up making the story even more interesting.

Art: 10/10

One of the strongest points, even in comedies the art is good, Featured to the double pages, because they are absurdly beautiful.

Character: 6/10
At the moment, the characters are not very charismatic, the only ones that caught my attention were Senkuu (who makes the story to progress) and Tsukasa with opposing ideals and is the villain of the history.

I love reading this each week. It is richly imaginative and a comedic story with Sci-Fi that does not disappoint.

It's a really good story to read that improves with each chapter, also quite fun and has a mystery that is shown at the beginning that leaves us curious to find out what is behind it. If I mention a weakness in the work, I would say that they are the characters, but I believe that it improves throughout the work.

Do you love science? Action? Adventure?? Are you looking for a beautifully executed shonen series that can successfully tackle all of those genres and more? Look no further than Dr. Stone. Get excited for this unforgettable journey to restore humanity back to it's former glory, or as some might say, former ugliness.

The story of a world petrified in stone for thousands of years, one man breaks free of his stone prison, literally, and immediately begins to use his vast knowledge of science to save humanity. With the help of his old friend, Taiju, Senku little by little begins to work his ... way back to modern technology.

Now that I've established a premise, if you're not already hooked then please continue reading. Personally speaking, Dr. Stone, as a series, is genius. Our story teller, Riichiro Inagaki, known best for his hit sports shonen Eyeshield 21, incorporates real science and experiments into this manga, fact checked by real scientists. Some being so dangerous there have been multiple warnings stressing not to preform anything you see and learn at home. As Senku would say, Exhilarating.

Speaking of exhilarating, the art made by none other than the legendary Boichi made this manga feel alive and unique. For those who don't know much about Boichi's style, he uses heavy realism and detail, sometimes to the point where backgrounds feel like I'm staring at a photograph. Some of Boichi's more famous works include Sun-Ken Rock, Origin, Hotel, as well as 2 One Piece chapter re-tellings drawn in his art style. He is also well known for his previous works in... *ahem* adult manga.

2 brilliant professionals combining to create a magnum opus. There were times I was genuinely laughing from the comedy, times where I feared for certain characters lives, times I was tearing up over unexpected circumstances, and yet there was never a time I found myself bored while reading a single chapter. Some of the inventions Senku and his crew were able to create genuinely had me shocked, especially with the simplicity of the creation. Just when Senku claims they are going to build something insanely difficult and the comedy sets in, we are often treated to a fairly accurate blueprint of a shitty makeshift version of said creation; and the reactions are always priceless.

While I have 9.99 billion percent praise and love for Dr. Stone, the only thing I felt was just shy of 10 billion percent was how rushed the final arc felt. While Senku is often portrayed as too smart for his own good, this arc definitely proved that. (I understand there was expertise and help involved in the final inventions, but it still felt unreal). I wished for just a smidgen more time with our lovely cast of characters, but when it's time to conclude there's nothing I can do but appreciate the time I spent with them. Well done, Dr. Stone, you've definitely earned a permanent spot on my Top Manga of Alltime list. [9.5/10]

This is my very first review of anything. I decided to do it on Dr Stone because I feel like this is a very underrated series, many people are missing out on.

Story 8/10
Humanity has been petrified and turned to stone. People start breaking out of the stone in the year 5738 AD and the world is now in the stone age. The main character Senkuu is a genius of all sciences and plans to bring the world back to the modern age, or even further. It is quite a unique and interesting concept.

Enjoyment 9/10
Dr Stone is a very funny and enjoyable series to ... read. This is my second favourite series to read after One Piece, in terms of enjoyment. It may even surpass it in the future. Senkuu's inventions are broken down into simple plans on how to make it. This makes it easy and enjoyable to understand. Sometimes my jaw drops with the insane stuff he makes with little resources.

Art 10/10
The art is constantly top quality. I've got no complaints. In the recent chapter 99, the panels were laid out so beautifully, you'll just have to read it to find out.

Character 9/10
All the characters are really funny and have hilarious reactions to stuff. I like all the silly quirks Senkuu and the supporting cast have. Side characters also have importance to the story and aren't useless. They actually make the world seem alive.

This manga is one of my favorites, It's about a man named Senku manage to make incredible things from scratch in a stone world, and also it's comedic flavor, I highly recommend reading this manga, it will give you an exciting feeling when they just finished their inventions, and also the characters are good too. It has now 150+ plus chapters and it never ceases to amaze every arc in the story. Bunch of cool inventions great character development and has an amazing plot. Well I think you can somehow gain some scientific knowledge when reading the manga cuz the mc always talks about the ... contents in the table of elements and some scientific things (spoiler) right now i think they plan to go to the moon to defeat the enemy.

God, in how many ways can I say that I love this manga. If I could rate it 20 I would, it's just so perfect.

It subverts the normal "Shounen Fights" by using rebuilding science as it's form of progression, which makes the whole story feel powerfully fresh compared to most other shounen manga.

The characters are fun and energetic, and the art perfectly backs it up. With moments of just pure beauty due to how detailed it can be.

The writing is just perfect, I love it. The jokes always make me laugh, and the chat between characters is natural and feels like a ... real conversation.

The first few chapters are more of a 17, but it quickly builds to the 20 rating that it sorely deserves.

Read this, you won't be disappointed!

Dr. Stone is a very unique manga. Not just because of it's unique premise and setting, but also because of the unique storytelling technique.

Story: 9/10
At first glance, the story may look simple (ie, good vs bad, standard shonen) but go into a little bit of depth and you realize that the overarching plot isn't what makes Dr. Stone enjoyable. After the first arc, which is a good introductory arc, the story shifts narrative. Each of the later arcs have a definite end goal (except a few). And, to achieve each outlandish and seemingly impossible end goal, the characters work, fight, and slowly but surely, ... mature. So, I think that Dr. Stone should be viewed and enjoyed as a semi-episodic manga, where the different methods they use, paths they take and the fun they have while achieving the goal is the main focus, not the advancement towards the overarching story. or the 'deep philosophy'. And, there's also lots of foreshadowing, which is always good.

Art: 10/10
Boichi.... do I need to say anything else. Well, this is a review, so of course I do. Boichi is definitely a master artist. Sure, a weekly manga has taken its toll, and the art is not as good as what you see in, say, Sun-ken Rock. But still, it is very well done. Also, Boichi pulls of the humorous faces perfectly. But I am not really an art connoisseur, so I shouldn't say much.

Character: 7/10
This is where Dr. Stone takes a hit. The episodic narrative of Dr. Stone doesn't allow for a lot of character development. However, I still think Dr. Stone handles most of its characters in a good way. Each character is unique and provides an interesting contribution to the story. My favourite characters are Ryusui and Chrome. The first is a 'charismatic and leader-like' stereotype, and the second is, surprisingly, a 'standard shonen protagonist' stereotype: humble beginnings but a ton of character development. In that sense, I like to think of Senkuu as the 'aged master' of Chrome, and I have a feeling that Chrome is set to surpass Senkuu in the future.

Now, let's talk of a character that I don't like: Tsukasa. Tsukasa is a character that doesn't fit into the narrative of Dr. Stone. He sets a philosophical background of the story, and hence serves as a villain on a moral basis. Howewer, not only is he a bad villain (his philosophy is pretty crazy, and I doubt anyone agrees with it), but also he is an inappropriate one to the story. This is because to defeat such a morally ambiguous villain, you need the infamous 'Talk-no-Jutsu', and this really doesn't fit well with manga that are like Dr. Stone. The villain in the second major arc is much better: he is simple, and yet is mysterious and scary.

Enjoyment: 9/10
Like I said, the story is extremely enjoyable once you look past Tsukasa's bs and focus on the episodic narrative.

“Humanity Isn't Going Down That Easily. Two Million Years Of Human History Is Right Here Inside Me."

Dr. Stone is a hard sci-fi series that tells its tale in moments of extremity and comedy, logic and science, emotion and ideas. Drawn by Boichi, and written by Inagaki, the story focuses on the ideals of a single person to save the entire human race with nothing but science. A tale of mystery, but also adventure and war, Dr. Stone takes Minecraft society simulations to another level, and produces an extremely satisfying product to read, its end sparking many a feeling in its readers. 

The story takes place ... in a world that has seemingly lost all its advancement. After 3700 years of humans encased in stone, the first human breaks free from his dormant state and see’s the world, at least what’s left of it. A landscape drawn with such captivating horror surrounds him, a world back where life started, full of trees, wildlife and no human inventions. Animals roam freely, the skyline is clear, and a world with a completely different landscape, an earth that seems to have reset. Most scary of all, each and every human has been turned to a stone statue, which, when you break reveals that even their insides have completely turned into stone, a phenomenon that modern science cannot explain. Following the scientific genius, we witness his journey to save the world and bring it back to its original state, will nothing but the knowledge in his head. 

However the story isn’t nearly as simple as that, and Boichi does what Boichi does best, writing some extremely human characters. While Inagaki’s writings were what crafted the story, Boichi’s technical and character-driven hand places its touch on characters as seen in his previous work Origin. Characters who are brought back realize the splendor of the new earth and fight to keep it this tranquil place. Products of the previous world they refuse to let the world sink to what it used to do and instead create the ideal society. Wars of science and brute force break out, as conflicting ideas clash, and the greater scientist is guaranteed victory. 

You come to realize certain facts about human nature and how people operate and think. The story focuses on societies and how the world operates, as well as the main characters. As different socies are explored, different ideas are introduced, and different people are introduced, the story becomes larger and more expansive and their projects increase in their crazy nature. However, these ideals and moments are the background and the basis of all arcs, the surface level story a light-hearted comedy.  Yet, a good amount of time is withholding these tranquil scenes and emotional moments for the best times and for extremely well-drafted scenes. 

What also carries the show is how realistic the show is in how things develop, and how the science keeps getting more and more absurd to carry out, in a world that has nothing but stick and stones. Inagaki, with each arc doesn’t hold back, bringing a great number of different kinds of antagonist, requiring a degree of science that keeps increasing, but in creative ways. The wit and creativity of the science inventions and projects never fails, creating rising stakes, but also a degree of intrigue in what scientific invention is to be explored next. Bombs don’t get bigger or even created, paper is, missiles aren’t shot, chemical formulas are thrown. 

However the story isn’t perfect, neither does it adopt the tone of Origin. The story has 1 large issue in its writing, and that is the story arcs in the first half. A background story of stopping the stone petrification and finding the source is there, and the themes lay heavily inside the often jovial and comedic manga. The story does a great job organically integrating this larger plot into the smaller arcs, but the basic plots of each arc, while executed extremely well, lack a lot.

Spending a whole arc gathering resources to solve pneumonia, saving a damsel in distress, were both arcs that suffered from an issue that the whole story faced. Pacing. The story was a mess of pacing, where years took place in a chapter, where 50 chapters were a couple days, where a whole character arc over years took place in a chapter. The first half suffers from pacing that stretches the arcs too long, arcs that are nothing but to setup the endgame that the last 100 chapters provide. Furthermore, the first half while really enjoyable and full of special moments, doesn’t prepare you for the tonal shift and the seriousness of the second half, and instead provided a light-hearted mystery that was an enjoyable read, with series elements. 

The second half is a perfect combination of Origin and the first half of Dr. Stone, where the stakes feel extremely real, and the light-hearted story with darker elements, becomes a story that has both light and darker elements. It’s a perfect blend, where the final 100 chapters flow so organically and without a hitch that reading it week to week was nothing but an uphill ride of excitement. 

The art is drawn by the Korean photographer, graphic designer, and one of the best artistic designers Boichi. The Characters while enveloped in comedy, each have realistic traits, moments and stories that they go through the story, creating an incredibly real cast of characters. The only thing that they suffer from is being forgotten, characters after their arcs, cast away, and often never seen again. The story and path of science is explored almost perfectly, and the main character, though seemingly a genius, seemingly the perfect guy shows small cracks, small moments that really develop him.

Dr. Stone is worth the read and following the 10th volume is nothing but a fantastic ride of a story. Thank you Boichi and Inagaki for this wonderful story.

This is Ten billion percent definitely one of the most fun and worthwhile manga I think out there and I can confidently say that I enjoyed every bit of this. It's a very unique Shounen and if you're someone like me who loves their Shounen then Dr. Stone will most likely become your favourite.

Being an anime only for the first three seasons but I finally decided to cave in and read because I could not wait for the rest of the story.

Story : The plot and setting alone is unique, amongst the pile of your usual run of the mill shounens, Riichiro Inagaki does what ... many authors fail to do and that is to make science actually blend in so well with the story. Every event is carefully planned and meticulously executed, almost as if the author had the entire story planned from the beginning till the end (which is appreciated). In a world where so many mangaka keep prolonging their works and don't deliver endings, Dr. Stone actually delivers an ending and a flawless one at that I daresay. The story is basically filled with trinkets of information about everyday stuff that we use but have no idea of their versatility. A very informative and equally fun read for sure. The ending, although could have been better but I think with what Inagaki Sensei had to work with, He did a splendid job. (9.5/10)

Art : This is the biggest strength of Dr. Stone. Boichi is a God at drawing stuff, I mean like literally. His drawings evoke a sense of sheer scale and emotion that I honestly don't think any other artist could have done a better job. Boichi is the perfect artist for this kind of story and the art stands out on its own, even apart from the story. The art can get a bit ecchi-ish but that doesn't deduct from my overall enjoyment (even though I've seen that criticism a lot). So many iconic panels are present, the art is easy to make out and it flows really well with the story. (10/10 here)

Characters : Although I really enjoyed every character's role, I definitely have some favourites like Senku (obviously the madman himself) , Kohaku, Suika, Chrome, Ryuusui, Tsukasa. If you haven't read the manga yet and are wondering about the names then don't search them up and just go blind in this story. Senku is a cleverly written protagonist even by Shounen standards, even though he's kind of like a Deus-ex machina for the plot's sake, The author still keeps us on our seats with the stakes high. His character is so charismatic that he doesn't take from the plot at all, infact I think one of the best things about Dr. Stone is the protagonist Senku himself.

Overall : This is a story that deserves to be read by going in blind without any prior knowledge, Seeing all the twists and turns is definitely a charm to read because of the beautiful art. Character developments are also portrayed nicely here.
The ending is an unexpected plot twist that you will NEVER EVER SEE COMING, DEFINITELY. While I think the ending could have been better it certainly wasn't bad in the least and it does not take away from the overall enjoyment of story at all.

This is one of the best recent manga in my opinion and fortunately it's anime adaptation is also excellent and is getting a final season at the time of writing this post. Watch the anime or read the manga, it's upto you but definitely do invest your time in Dr. Stone as it definitely will hook you and keep you entertained from start to finish. I was left with a huge smile at the end of the final chapter and it definitely had some really thought provoking moments aswell. The message which the author tried to gives us here atleast according to me is that, No matter how hard something is or looks. If you take one diligent step at a time and keep hammering away at it, You're bound to become successful, Ten billion percent. Get excited !(This is Senku's catchphrase) hahaha.
My only real criticism is that the ending was a bit underwhelming in my opinion, The journey till the ending was amazing and perfect though. The conclusion was not as satisfying to me as was the buildup and the journey of how they reached there. Perhaps that's the only reasoning I can give for not giving this a 10/10 but it still deserves a 9.5/10 for sure.

Dr. Stone deserves a lot of credit for creating a hard-science fiction shonen series that makes a point to be scientifically accurate yet still appeal to people who do not care for science. I do not think anyone else has accomplished this feat. I normally like science fiction though I typically do not enjoy Science Fiction anime or manga. The art was high quality, and added a sense of realism. The characters are fun, and all of them feel necessary and utilized correctly. It felt like everyone brought something to the table. The overall plot of the story always felt rationally constructed. I think others ... will enjoy the series.

(Spoiler Free Review) From Chapter 19

Now Dr Stone as it is has a huge amount of potential but it takes a while to start up and get into it, which is one of the reasons why I believe a many people are not keeping up to date with it and dropping it after a while. Now don't get me wrong its far from perfect but I think its got potential and I hope that people give the manga enough time to start up and create a unique personality from itself that it deserves

The Story -8- The story revolves around a typical high school scene ... with your overly hyper main character with unrivalled strength with that of a Silver-Back Gorilla Taiju, your cute female romantic interest of your main character Yuzuriha and last but not least one of the most interesting characters shown in Shonen Jump Manga for a fairly long while is our science loving nerd Senku who has an unparalleled knowledge and love to science a bit of a throwback to Albert Einstein if you will. The manga quickly changes when everyone is suddenly turned to stone as if God wanted to do a restart and only Taiju and Senku are released 3,700 years later into a world uninhabited by humans with Senku and Taiju trying to rebuild civilisation again using science.

The Art -7- I actually quite enjoy the art but it does take some time to get used to the main thing that I dislike about the art is the fact that many of the female characters look the same just with a slightly longer or shorter hair than the others but the male characters especially Senku have a very different style to the characters, the landscapes and backgrounds are drawn very well and my favourite aspects of the manga is the comedic style art that is used as comic relief but changes to a more serious tone as the mange continues through.

The Characters -7- Now its too early for me to judge all the characters but the main characters Taiju is very cliched a bit stupid but has overwhelming strength,not scared of any situation, Taiju is also used as a comic relief character which I believe is done very well overall but I would like to see him developed more in the future as the manga develops as of yet Taiju has not been seen for around 4 chapters so his development is yet to occur. Senku is where this manga shines, he is a great character and has a unique personality that is unique to his character which is nice to see. The idea of Senku using science as a weapon instead of brute strength or a form of magical power is a nice change to Shonen Jump manga which is a pleasant read instead typical manga archetypes.

Enjoyment -8- I am really enjoying Dr. Stone at the moment but I will say when it was featured in Jump Start I was reluctant to vote for its continuation as I thought it was going to be boring and go no where, but was pleasantly surprised when it continued on the lineup and am continuing to hope for its next chapter after finishing the last.

Overall -7- I think people need to give these newer style and different manga a longer time to develop as characters a plots like these are unique to it own genre on itself now don't get me wrong its a very interesting manga and I understand that not everyone will Like it as it is but I'd definitely say give it a go wait until chapter 5-6 to drop or continue as it does get moving on faster after that point.

I was immediately drawn into Dr.Stone from day 1 during it's english release through Weekly Shounen Jump.

The art-style by Boichi is always unique and captivating, partner this up with such a science heavy premise and it leads to a very high-quality manga.

The story itself focuses on a "What if" kind of scenario. "What if humanity reversed back to the stone age with limited survivors". Because of this premise it focuses heavily on individuals using modern knowledge to survive in an age when body strength trumpeted everything.

This of course results in one of the main arcs and themes for the manga, strength vs science. Which leads ... to a lot tense but also at times, humorous interactions between characters.

The way they approach science theorems in this is really well executed, explaining in detail exactly what is happening. (For example: Mixing Substance A with Substance B results in C occuring). The mangaka himself even has a science expert on hand to verify some of the chemical reactions which adds an extra layer of realism.

It also has a very interesting approach towards it's Villians. Rather than there being a token individual whom is evil for the sake of it. We are instead treated with characters whom are relatable and are just using a different method to survive in such a world. It is easy to sympathise and understand their way of thinking even if you disagree with their actions.

Summary:

- Art-style is highly detailed and lends itself well for the premise.
- The premise is interesting and engaging, everything is unfamiliar on this new Earth however since has familiarity to it.
- Humour is subjective and depends on the reader however, the faces some characters pull should cause some laughter alone.
- The realism in the science, detailed explanations and fact checking done helps you learn some science whilst enjoying a hobby.
- Each character has their own personality, strength and weakness, even the minor ones.

Dr. Stone has finally reached the 50 chapter milestone and I've decided to give it a review. I'll probably update every ~50 chapters or so if I can, to keep things up to date. Tl;dr ratings below

I'll be upfront, I'm baised here because I really enjoy the survival style, man vs nature conflict that's present in many parts of this series. Nonetheless I think Inagaki has done a fantastic job with the story of Dr. Stone so far, and made use of both man vs nature conflicts and man vs man conflicts to keep the story very engaging throughout all 50 chapters. Each arc in the story has had good pacing, and with every new chapter I've felt as though something notable happened to progress the plot and drive Senkuu to reaching the arc's goal.

The one major issue I do have with the story is that quite a lot of it requires a lot of suspension of disbelief. It's only natural given that the series is science heavy while being set in a post-apocalyptic world, but that's why I've rated the story portion a 9 instead of a 10.


Art - 10/10

I love Boichi's art. There hasn't been a single chapter so far where I'm not thoroughly impressed at the detail and attention that has been put into a lot of the art, especially things like double page spreads. I'm even more impressed considering that Boichi is also doing the art for his other weekly series, Origin, at the same time as he's doing art for Dr. Stone. It seems like a ridiculous quantity of work yet he still maintains that incredible quality as well.


Characters - 7/10

The weakest point of this series is by far the antagonist, who at times seems like he was made to be an extremely perfect and extremely overpowered character. It does set up a very nice ideological conflict between him and Senkuu, however this can also feel a bit forced or absurd at times.

Aside from the antagonist(s), I think the rest of the characters in this series are written well. Interactions between Senkuu and the characters around him are always interesting and there are a lot of lovable side characters introduced. Although very few of the characters in the series have been developed in much depth, it is only chapter 50 so things will likely change as the story itself progresses. This rating will quite likely go up by chapter 100 if more characters are developed well


Enjoyment - 10/10

I really enjoy man vs nature conflicts, post-apocalyptic settings and science driven plot in their own rights. Mashing those together is really a winning strategy for Dr. Stone. It's the manga I look forward to reading every week the most, tied with One Piece. Every chapter is a treat to read


Overall - 9/10

Dr. Stone has a bit of everything - comedy, action, adventure, and most importantly a hell of an entertaining story. You'll be consistently amazed by the art and entertained by the characters, certainly all the way through chapter 50 and likely beyond.

It's well worth a read if you like the idea of a non-standard shonen series that focuses a lot on the adventure and less so on the action, but still has a good mix of the two.

Dr. Stone quickly became one of my favorite Shonen Jump Manga because of its unique yet interesting premise. Humanity essentially became extinct turning into stone and after a few thousand years, Senkuu, our hero in this series, woke up from being petrified and set out to get the civilization back to what it was all those years ago. That was essentially the plot of Dr. Stone.

The story of Dr. Stone wasn't anything too crazy but it was super enjoyable with the addition of Senkuu with the help of friends around him remaking modern inventions now in the stone world. Seeing those inventions that we are ... now used to just with looking way more primitive, was such an amazing moment seeing stuff we're used to being made from scratch.

The art was done by Boichi-sensei who is such an amazing artist that I've always strived to be. Some of the panels drawn by him was amazing with so much details put into measly a single panel. There was some scenery art drawn by Boichi that does kinda remind me of Murata Yusuke's art with One Punch Man, that's the quality of art we're talking about here.

Overall, the Dr. Stone manga was amazing and super enjoyable. Definitely recommended to Shonen Jump fans, but I do think that Dr. Stone is not for everyone. If you are more of a fan of Action Shonen, well Dr. Stone do have them but I wouldn't say that it's a strong point of the series because them doing science stuffs are definitely way more enjoyable than the action in the series. That's all I have to say about Dr. Stone. Thank you for reading my not so good review of it lol.

From the author of Eyeshield 21 and the artist of Sun-Ken Rock comes Dr. Stone, a shounen manga that's familiar, yet is new and innovative compared to any current manga running in Jump.

From the very start it introduces Taiju - your typical but inspiring "usual" shounen main character. We see how the world has changed while people have been petrified for over 3000 years. Not long after Taiju's escape from his petrification he encounters his best friend Senku - a smart and resourceful friend who seeks to find the cure for the petrification. As we follow their search we soon find out that the ... true protagonist of this series is Senku, and he will be there to stay as the protagonist.

What's interesting about this is that the author "misleads" the readers into thinking that Taiju's "the power of friendship" mindset will cure the petrification, but it actually focuses on scientific ways to solve it with the help of Senku. This is also what this series does so well. It's not a manga that hypes you up with fighting or playing sports, but rather it does so by introducing discovery, hope, and science. Science that is actually true to life (except obviously having some creative freedom).

This is backed up by beautiful art created by Boichi. If you've seen his previous work you'd know that he focuses making his drawings as extremely detailed as possible, though he's not able to always do it here given how it's a weekly manga.

The story starts off with a simple premise, and what Senku wants is very clear, and that gives this manga a sense of purpose and an end goal. Throughout the story we the readers are engaged in how the story will unfold, how Senku will find a cure for the petrification and how he will build a new society from the ground up. And this hopeful mind and this sense of discovery is what keeps me waiting for a new chapter each week.

I would say this manga is phenomenal and has the potential to become a staple series in Jump's lineup.

This manga is an absolute masterpiece in all aspects that have really step up its game as of the end of the already amazing 'stone wars' arc consistently making compelling antagonists and growth in our cast and protagonist with really compelling characters. This manga has a heavy and realistic relation to science but goings into such great detail almost anyone no matter the previous scientific knowledge can follow with ease

The direction and execution of the more recent arcs without and spoilers have kept me not only hooked but entranced by this page-turner of a series.

The more recent arcs have introduced some ... of my favourite characters in the series without overshadowing the OG cast giving each character compelling motivations that make them seem like real-life people. Minor spoiler warning but My favourite character development comes from Hyoga in the latest chapters in the series.

Art 10/10
The consistency and quality of the art is one of the greatest in the manga I've ever seen to the point that you would take all most any frame, colour it and it could be taken as an actual art piece. I'm dumbfounded as the amazing being that is produced for every chapter

Overall I would highly recommend this manga to anyone no matter their knowledge of science for an overall amazing experience.

Through all of my years of indulging in the mediums of anime and manga, I've never quite felt the urge to write an in-depth review about a series I had experienced. Maybe it's because I felt I never had anything I desired to talk about in particular, since other people seemed to be much more applicated for the job, going in excruciating detail about what they enjoyed or disliked about different works, whose thoughts often made me take notice of some particular elements that slipped my mind on my first experience. But something about watching last week's episode of the anime for Dr. Stone made ... me remember the thought I had at the end of the manga, and it's something that has really struck me in a way no other piece of media quite has, which I find particularly fascinating and I do wonder if there are people out there in the platform that can relate to my feelings in any way.

In all aspects, I shouldn't like this manga. It's full of one dimensional characters that seem to be introduced only for the purpuse of carrying out a specific task to craft a particular item (often not even being unique in that field as seen with the group that specializes in physical strength), meandering story arcs that make you wonder how much of the story was actually planned out in advance aside from the science re-inventions that the crew was going to bring back from the old world, and the awkward paneling that makes the pages feel bloated and rigid to read through, salvaged only by Boichi's legitimely great detailed artwork and spreads that while I understand may not be everyone's cup of tea, I find particularly impressive in depicting the complex items that they create in a grandiose fashion, detailing every intricate part of the artefacts previously built.

Now, with all that being said, you fellow reader might think that this comic would be a waste of time akin to spending a whole hour washing your car only for rain to fall in the next day. Although, if you payed attention to the previous paragraph, there is but one element that I consistenly shined light upon in being the one saving grace of the product in question. It being its unwaveringly positive commentary on the aspect of the human nature linked to the advancement and evolution of the possibilities we are able to achieve through the sheer and utter determination imbeded within our species.

SO. Those are a lot of big words, but what do I mean by this exactly?
Let's break it down step by step.

Let's begin taking a look at the premise. A world where all technology has been made null through what Senku believes to be a science weapon of some kind. Science itself is what made the world of Dr. Stone what we see throughout the story. A world where only the mighty survive by sheer physical prowess alone. This premise ignites the debate that is the crux of the first arc of the story. "Is science worth bringing back in the first place?". There are legitimate reasons for us to desire a simpler world with simpler rules. The world is full of uncertainty and chaos, technology dominating our lives day after day without a stopping point anywhere in sight. The internet and social media have meant a new paragraph in the history of humanity and the way it affects our interpersonal communication, society's rules bind down the individual in circumstances they have no mean of controling, the globlal enviroment that keeps degrading at an alarming rate, the nuclear apocalypse that is talked about more and more by the media, with fear of the inventions we ourselves created. Is technology really responsible for our own destruction? Is there any meaning in the progress of our species in the first place?

In the face of all this, our protagonist takes center stage. And, when I said that science and its relation to humanity serves as the core theme of the story, I was more specifically refering to the character of Ishigami Senku. As is Senku —through the mundane but no less escential events that shaped his childhood through his father— who takes the readers on a journey to find a different answer than the one we might come to by ourselves after spending too much time watching the news channel during a tuesday morning. Senku, and Inagaki by extension, communicate that science can and only will be a result of our infinite desire to be greater than what we are, to have the things we do not have. And that desire is, fundamentally, positive. Regardless of the results later caused by the wretched intentions of individuals, the advancement of technology, no matter the pain it may bring with it, will always serve to elevate our race to greater, previously unimagined heights.

Senku is hard headed and totally full of himself, but his determination knows no bounds. And is precicely that, combined for his passion and love of science, that brings people closer to him. Because even though he might not appear as such on the surface, Senku is a deeply empathetic person that wants nothing else than to help other people with science, just how it illuminated him in his childhood years. His selflessness creates the bonds that are crucial to rebuilding civilization, as he is incapable of doing so by himself, directly pointed by its physical inability. And that leads us to the second part of the series' message. We not only need science to advance, but science can only be developed through a community, and the hearts of the people are what ultimately shape the purpose of the fruits of our labor. In this case, the bonds between the members of the cast.

That is Dr. Stone's answer to its laid thesis, and is one I find particularly heartfelt and emotive. There are numerous examples through the series that I will not go into due to spoilers, but every step Senku and the gang take to bring back a lost artifact from the previous era carries a profound pathos unique to this work. We've seen science shows as kids before, we've seen the wacky stuff they can build with seemingly ordinary ingredients. But the amount of research that goes into each of the projects the characters work their way through devolves in an apreciation for the process of craftmanship itself, thus making the actual finalization of the item in question a moment of unmatched bliss. The final arc of the story is essential to this message, with the use of certain characters in it, the creation of their biggest project yet and the identity of the final obstacle they have fo face.

In the end, Dr. Stone might seem like your generic science based Weekly Shonen Jump manga series. And yeah, in a lot of unfortunate ways, it is. My enjoyment of it definitely dwindled during a big part of the middle portion. But I felt the need to communicate the potency of its intentions, and how effectively the author transmited them through this manga that this particular reader found strongly charming and sincere, the act of going through that final stretch of chapters ending up as a very intimate experience, making me look at the world and its history in a slight more positive light.

Writing this review, I think I came to the conclusion that the reason why the themes of the narrative made such an impact on me is because they really didn't have any right to be as potent as they were in the context of this kind of product, and only really hit me years after I caught up and started reading it weekly. It took me by surprise. And I'm not trying to diminish it, these are just my honest feelings about my personal journey with the series.

TL;DR: It's an ok science shonen on the surface, but with a strong message that left a big impact on me, delivered with great thought and care that makes it well worth reading to any enthusiasts of the medium that are looking for a new, innovative story with charm spread all throughout its pages.

Dr Stone is the product of two acclaimed mangaka, Riichiro Inagaki of Eyeshield 21 and Biochi of Sun-Ken Rock. While its still very early in its run, Dr Stone has the potential to be one of the best ongoing series in Jump.

The story is generally good, but there is a sense that we're still very much in the preliminary stages of the story. As of the time of writing, part 1 is finished, and we are entering a new arc called "Stone Wars". So far, the story mainly consists of Senkuu doing cool science stuff each week, without much of a myth arc. Its done ... a good job of establishing the character identities, while also leaving alot to explore in the future. Overall, the series improves in a big way after the focus shifts from Taiju to Senkuu.

Boichi's art is great, very exaggerated at times but just generally enjoyable to look at. He does lots of 2 page spreads, and they are consistently well done.

From a character standpoint, everyone outside of the principal hero and villain feel a bit generic. But Senkuu is a unique take on the shonen protagonist, having no martial skill at all but using his mind to get by. Tsukasa is equally effective as a villain; he honestly feels a bit like a post-apocalyptic Light Yagami.

Overall, there is still alot of time for this series to grow, but its a promising start, and it feels quite distinctive from alot of the other stuff in Jump right now.

Been in this manga for the whole run so far (Review posted on 16th chapter). It's good, like I think the idea, however it's kind of got a "Kid" vibe to it, as in the way things occur, like the miraculousness of everything that occurs is kind of absurd. Like small (to big) dues ex machinas all over the place.

Also the art is drawn for kids, and like the panels don't always explain whats going on or how things happen (like in chapter 16).

Characters are overly powerful for being children, and, for example, one of the main character's catchphrases gets kind of dumb.

In the ... end, its a nice manga with silly things going on.

Overall its a 6.5 - 7
