Since the show is soon upon us I though I would make a thread on it. There doesn't seem to be much hype coming from the community I see which is a shame because I am really excited. I really like the costume along with being a lover of TCG so the season seems geared for my taste. Although I don't particularly like the school setting that could lead to some interesting dynamics within the cast.

Here is the trailer:

What are your thoughts though fellow fans?

You won't get much hype here, toku is only hyped on their respective forums. Hell, even Mydramalist doesn't really give much fuck to the genre :bigsad:

There are a few peeps in here who like the stuff, as well as kaiju fans. Thanks for yet another toku thread btw I'll miss Geats

I know there won't be much here and the genre is Asia centric but there are a few people here who like the stuff.

And ikr, I will miss the Geats cast so much. Although I am still salty that they haven't brought back PunkJack cause the school shooter weirdo needed to cause drama again.

I was a bit hyped for it, but when I saw the high school setting it did sort of disappoint me, but I'll give it 10-12 eps to see how it goes. After my time enjoying Geats very much, I wonder if this one can also make me feel the emotions I felt every week when Geats episodes came out. I'll miss Geats very much.

I know Zero-One gets alot of hate but I respect the climax. It wasn't done perfectly but I like how bold and daring it was lol.

Ex-Aid is just a joy.

I'll admit I haven't finished Ex-Aid yet, but it has been pretty good so far from the part I left off. Zero-One for me is one the better options for new Kamen Rider fans just so they can test the waters and see if they enjoy it. I guess the same could be said about some other Kamen Rider shows during the Showa era, Heisei 1, and Heisei 2, but for the Reiwa era Zero-one is/has been a starting point for a lot of people which is cool to see!

Yeah like LittleKuriboh started with it after watching Shin Kamen Rider. Lol, I think people in the community tend to hate shows a little too much. It's like, these shows are very similar overall guys.

Oh yeah I remember seeing him start Zero-one. Shin Kamen Rider was a treat. Me and my friend watched all the Shin films together so it was super fun. I know the community holds some shows to a higher value than other ones which I sort of understand , but at the same time they are each unique in their own way while being very similar.

I've only seen shin kamen rider so far but I atleast got to see it in theaters which was super cool. I so want to watch shin Ultraman at one point soon though lol.

I've also noticed, already for the western toku fans, there is no original opinions. They just repeat word for word what a popular youtuber says. A prime example is ToQger. It was hated because it was cool to hate now because a youtuber tweeted about it saying how good it was a bunch of people now love it.

Bitch I always liked ToQger lol.

I have noticed that too and I watched a bit of ToQger, not sure why the hate just because of one person. It was pretty good from the amount of episodes I saw! I guess it's the whole "hate what is popular" trend. I feel like people need to watch these show or movies and make up their own mind if it interests them or not. For example, I recently started watching Ultraman Blazar and it's been great so far, but I have seen some say it's not as good as the other Ultraman shows. A couple toku youtubers I watched out of curiosity seemed to say "avoid this or watch that" without letting their audience form an opinion. Sort of a shame people listen or go against other people just for an opinion on taste.

Oh wow. For me I have heard nothing but praise for Blazar personally. I like it alot and it for sure feels more showa era Ultra. I watched some of Orb and its pacing melted my brain lol. Also I love Ultraseven so seeing the Alien Cannan appear was a nice treat.

I hate car themes so I am not too keen on watching Drive anytime soon because of shallow aesthetic reasoning lol.

I hear bad things about Ghost constantly but I wonder if it is actually that bad.

Yeah I like the Showa era Ultra series so seeing how it has that feel in the Reiwa era is pretty neat! Me and a friend were debabting on watching Ultraseven, but still in talks about which toku series.

Quick edit: my friend is very curious in the Ultra series spin-off Gridman and with the 3 anime entries we might watch both the toku series and the SSSS universe.

Gridman is an awesome show. The sets still blow me away. Also I really dig the whole aesthetic of the show. It comes highly recommended

I look forward to watching the original Gridman to see how such a cool character and aesthetic of a computer-like world came to be!

The Drive cast has good development and chemistry, including the villains. I don't like car themes, but I do like the detective and procedural stuff it dabbles in. Both are pretty shallow and end up feeling like window dressing, but it was an enjoyable experience. I think it's the kind of show where the Rider is recognized publicly as a vigilante so for a lot of the early episodes he's living a double life between the detective firm and the monster busting. The secondary rider is a background character compared to Chase, I prefer series more like Den-O where the secondary rider's story is the driving force of a lot of what's going on.

Ghost also has a good couple of characters visually and personality wise, but they don't really develop and I don't remember the antagonist even upon seeing pictures of him. I remember liking a series of episodes where the monster of the week befriended the protagonist's group and stuck around. The shrine they live in never feels like an inhabited setting even compared to the entirely contrived areas like Rabbit Hutch. The protagonist doesn't show a lot of dimension, so seeing him interface with the world is always uncanny(the One Piece Netflix trailers remind me of Ghost a bit in this respect). The actor was young and didn't have a lot of range, I think it hampered anything they could do with his character. Also fake deaths, it's like a staple of the show. Even with the few positive elements there's not a lot of cohesion.

I loved Ryuki, 555, Agito and pretty much that whole first 9 heisei generation in 2011-2016 when I was watching them, but I haven't touched anything since rewatching Blade in like september 2018.

Since you saw Blade (semi)recently, how do you feel about the new costume for Garren in Outsiders?

It looks really good from the picture I'm seeing. Good enough that the Jack form starts to look like an awkward middle-stage pokemon by comparison. I saw Garren come back for the Kamen Rider 3 movie around then too, and I read that Kaido from 555 comes back for something in Revice.

Drive was actually pretty cool Kamen Rider show with a neat premise and gimmick in my opinion. It has some very unique Kamen Rider designs. As for Faiz (my favorite Kamen Rider show) they announced for 20th anniversary a new movie with returning head-writer, Toshiki Inoue-sensei. I should rewatch faiz before the movie comes out.

i ended up just re-watching kabuto, blade, faiz and ryuki series. i'm not fond of hyped up belt voice like that it felt like the atmosphere is not to be taken seriously / impactful.

i haven't finished watching the rider show on netflix as i forgot the title of it lol and despite the rider's design is not to my liking i really appreciate the serious vibe in it. the enemy bee's design was really cool.

on topic they can't go wrong with most rider's costume design even though cape is also not to my liking. main character acts like an anime character so i guess it's for younger audience. the antagonist looks pretty.
