One of the things AniList has that I really wish MAL had is the ability to list sources and add notes when making a submission, this makes it much easier for both the mods and the user when trying to modify something in the DB.

Right! MAL needs to update their submission forms.

I noticed MAL updated the sidebar on anime and manga pages. They now separated the official site and other resources into sections; before, they only used commas.

I like what they've done. But there's still no way for users to submit external links like in AniList! I really wish we can submit official streaming and reading links directly on anime and manga pages instead of using Google Forms ([Update Feb 5] Streaming Information Now Available on Seasonal, DB, List) every time.

I agree that a section to add info just for mods would be nice, tho the Source field has been there for a while

What source field are you talking about?

@MadanielFL
I realize now that you probably didn't mean the literal "Source" field (for stating from where it's adapted, like Manga, Original, etc)... but although limited, it gives us the chance to add the official site and such at the very bottom of the form.

https://myanimelist.net/panel.php?go=anime_series&do=add

Which Sources did you mean then?

Like the ones on AniList, I have the screenshots on my op showing how they work.

Let's say you wanna make a change, like adding a producer to the entry, and then you use the source field to prove where your info is coming from.

That makes more sense now ^^;

Yes, that sounds like something that would help the mods... if used properly by people.

Like Shey said, I think it would be helpful but I doubt it would be used properly even if it was implemented. We already have sources for a few submission type already and 95% of the time its not filled out or if it is, its not in any kind of meaningful source. So I'm not really pushing too hard for it.

Specifically for producers, I don't think there's a easy site that lists them all. You just have to watch the credits at the end of the episode.

Good idea. It's always good to have more tools encouraging users to create more detailed submissions.

Regarding my post above, I just like to share that we can finally add/submit external links to sidebars of anime and manga pages similar to AniList and AniDB. For anime pages, URLs or IDs of official sites, AniDB, ANN, Wikipedia and Syoboi pages can now be edited by users. There's still no option for Fandom Wiki, though. But you can probably click 'Add Site' and select 'Other' for that. As for manga pages, we can only submit official sites and Wikipedia pages. Noticed that a few weeks ago but didn't find any announcements (I mentioned about that here: Add Fandom Wikis to the External Links section).

I still agree with the OP. I hope MAL improves their submission forms to something similar to AL as seen in OP's shared images:

There should definitely be some text field to add notes and to link your sources on all submission forms.

It always feels frustrating to research information about anime/manga/lightnovels only to be not able to share my sources and to have no idea how to submit the information in a way that makes it as easy for the mods as possible. Especially when I'm editing existing information, it's annoying to be unable to give a reason to why the old information is no longer correct and to simply have to trust the moderator that they have all the necessary information.

Not everyone who submits information on MAL is some veteran who knows everything about it. Having some way to explain my submission or some way to provide information without needing to know exactly where to put it would have definitely helped me back when I started.

The Submissions Etiquette in the respective Anime/Manga Guildelines states that when adding an Anime/Manga, you should add "links to any supporting evidence" in the "Additional Info" field.
Please add a separate field for sources instead of repurposing a completely different database field for this! The submission form doesn't even mention that you can use "Additional Info" in this way, it's only briefly mentioned in the Guidelines. It feels like some weird make-shift solution and I always found it very confusing in the past. It's badly communicated.

The "Edit Character Information" and "Add Person" forms have a "Reason" and "Add/Edit Company" has "Resources". All the other forms I know don't have either, unless we also count "Picture Source" from "Add Character" and "Add Character Picture". I don't understand why it's so inconsistent.
