Is it worth watching all of the top 100 TV series only? Not including movies, specials, or OVAs |

Some of them are sequels to series outside the top 100... |

Are we talking top 100 by rating or popularity? On both accounts I would say 'no' . Find a genre, creator, tags etc. that you enjoy and pursue those instead. I have watched hundreds of anime and with a few exceptions I found anime ratings/popularity on MAL to have no correlation with how much I enjoyed the show. |

Personally? No. I know my interests well enough to know that there are things on there that I wouldn't enjoy. Plus there are series on there that I dropped or which are related to things I dropped. |

I and some friends did exactly this quite a few years ago. Honestly, I don't think its that good of an idea, because those anime are from a multitude of genres, which you won't enjoy at all and will have a really bad time with, others will be like 'meh', but a few also will become favorites of yours. Also, a lot of the stuff didn't really age well, for example Gintama, I rewatched a few of the early epsiodes a few weeks ago with a friend, and it just didn't feel as good as the newer parts of the show. If you don't know what to watch next the Top 100 list might be a good start though, or if you want to watch something out of your comfort zone. Just don't go in with the opinion that everything on this list is necessarily to your liking... |

In my opinion you have to choose for yourself if an anime could me enjoyable for you, not watch it only because it is in the top 100. |

There was a point a long time ago where I focused on watching all top 100 and its prequels first and I had such a good time doing so, but maybe this method of watching doesn't work for everyone, especially if you're very particular about a genre you might only watch or a type of anime you might watch. |

Yep, that's right, and I actually did complete all the top 100 at the time. It took a little longer because if it's a sequel I would watch the prequel first which may not be in the top 100 then I'd watch the sequel which is under the top 100. But this was probably back in 2014 or 2015 when I was unemployed and had no job and had all the time in the world to watch anime all day. |

Then I got a job in 2016 and been working since (aside from time off during covid for a year), but I still tried to catch up with whatever new stuff entered into the top 100. Otherwise I'll sometimes just watch random stuff or pick through a certain interest stack or have certain systems on how I choose what to watch next. |

Read the one piece manga instead for one or two weeks, but even one or two months of watching all of one piece isn't much then another month or two for those others and that's only half a year. If you plan on watching anime for 30+ years, it isn't much. |

For me its a definite no. I would prefer to watch the anime according to my personal taste. There are many times I had enjoyed the anime which had low ratings and disliked the anime which had high rating. So now prefer to pick and choose the animes according to my own taste.... |

Yes if you like the first few episodes. There's a few good reasons they are top 100 so just watch whatever in the peeks your interest. Simple as that. |

SupremeGod said: Is it worth watching all of the top 100 TV series only? Not including movies, specials, or OVAs No. I've said this a thousand times by this point but the top 100 is immensely biased towards trashy shounen and romcoms. And a few meme anime here and there. Stopping there would be an absolute disservice towards anime as a medium, especially if you've already committed yourself to go beyond the casual tier. |

I don't know if top 100 means in terms of popularity or highest scored but in both causes it might be worth it, you can find something that's gonna be a disappointment for ya but you never know if you don't try |

It varies all the time so you'll never finish it. Also, consuming something because of its popularity is no good. You should consume something if it really interests you. |

SupremeGod said: Is it worth watching all of the top 100 TV series only? Not including movies, specials, or OVAs Watching all the MAL top 100 Anime series is like the equivalent of listening to all of the top 100 billboard chart songs. Just because Something is popular doesn't mean someone will enjoy everything listed as top Anime. Not saying all the top 100 Anime series aren't entertaining but I am the type of person who doesn't care about where an Anime places based on trivial popularity. So in short it's probably not worth watching all the MAL top 100 Anime series. As an example I have no real interest in watching at least over half of titles listed as the top 100 on MAL no more than I am interesting in listening to Miley Cyrus or Taylor Swift songs. |

There's always a good reason to at least give the top shows a few episodes, that way you can determine whether its something you want to continue watching or not. I'd argue that almost any show is worth at least one episode. Just keep in mind that there's plenty of shows outside the top 100 that are still as good, and sometimes better, than those in the top 100. |
