As for what I'd consider the best first episode, I'd go with Attack on Titan, The Tatami Galaxy or School Rumble. |

Erased has my favorite first episode. It made me believe that it was going to be my favorite anime of all time. I went out and implored all of my friends to watch it after episode 1. I had to go back and apologize to all of them after the ending came out. I liked the first episode so much that it tricked me into believing I liked the rest of the anime. |
