Honestly during the episode i was totally expecting for something to be wrong. Like, idk a random shadow or whatever lol. I'm really happy to see everyone alive though, especially Shiori, Hizuru and Ryuunosuke. And the fireworks scene in the beach was super pretty! This was definitely a great anime to watch.

I have mixed feelings over the ending especially the feeling like something is missing. When Hizuru did not recognize Shinpei on the boat I figured that the ending was basically a complete reset over what happened, heck even Shinpei seems to hardly remember what happened, like it was all just a dream. It did leave plot holes open such as since Shinpei's parents are alive he should not have been as close to Ushio as the ending made them out to be since he did not grow up with them in the same household, same with Mio for that matter. It's like the ending is cheapened by having the characters act the same way towards each other as if shadows did exist even though they do not in this timeline.

I still thoroughly enjoyed watching this for the last half year but the somewhat unfulfilling ending has made me drop it a point so it's still a 9/10 for me. I may read up on the spinoffs later on and probably re-watch this if Blu rays are released.

I kinda don't like "It's just a dream" ending. After all the shit they've been thru', they'd be like "Yea, it is just a dream, a long-long dream."

They would've been better it goes like Steins;Gate ending. Where Okabe knows what happened to him. I feel like the death of Hizuru is not dramatized enought to make her appareance more dramatic than it was.

You really missed it?
They clearly remember it wasn't a dream when they talked about Takoyaki.

Watched the whole thing in two days and I loved every second of it.
My only nitpick was making Ushio's shadow run around in a swimsuit the whole time.
Even if they gave it an explaination it felt unnecessary and off-putting. It was mostly done for fanservice.
10/10 one of the best of the year for sure.

Decent anime with good enough ending.
Though personally didn't like it as much i expected before starting. It is lot similar to "Higurashi When They Cry", but not as good (though that has its own problem too).

Things i like about this show -
Plot (or time travel aspect and shadow aspect) is quite interesting, probably the best thing about this anime. (Unique, complex and well executed like "steins gate"). Animation is quite good too. Show was consistent throughout it's run in my opinion with no highs or lows.

Things i dislike about this show-
Characters are weakness of this show. ofcourse leads were pretty good, but supporting cast were not good enough (compared to a show like "re zero"). Like for eg characters like Tetsu Totsumura or alan or the kids was just there in the show for the sake of it. Even characterization arc like of mio or sou (like unrequited love or family drama) didn't feel all that accomplished and satisfyingly explored. Also for me character design was the weakest part of this show (those were pretty bland for me unlike a time travel show like "Tokyo revenger" where this is the strength). Not a fan of the fanservice of this show either (that was pretty distracting).

Things i am neutral about this show-
It overall felt like a good enough balance or action and thrill, but at the same time didn't feel it did justice to either of them (an example of time travel show for comparison which did justice to both would be "Kokkoku") . In term of thrill, in one episode it feel like villans were going to obliterate heroes while in next it flips to heroes going to obliterate villans which some shocking reveal is a very good recipe of good thrilling show. But there are no bangs (the elevated tension feeling) in any reveals atleast not enough (actually "erased", a show with simple and obvious plot is able to capture the tension much better) . In term of action, it was good at times but was pretty sparse and underused. ( "Future diary" is good eg of time travel show with good amount of usage of action). Also a lot of blue and orange morality motivations which is interesting to watch at the same time feel just for the sake of shock value sometimes. (It reminds me of "neuro" in that aspect).

Anyways overall a interesting watch and enjoyable enough despite the flaws. 7/10 for me ( but +1 for being consistent and complete...so 8/10, i guess)

This and the last episode is what made my score for it jump up to 8 from 7. I just love how it completes the overall thematic arc that the series was going for since the beginning: which was learning how to cope with loss, but also how to value and cherish the loved ones you have at the moment, because you never know when the day might come when they're not with you anymore.

But overall, the first few episodes got me excited, the big chunk in the middle had me bored because of all the nonstop stuff happening, and it didn't leave enough room for the audience to simply take in the events that just happened. The last half got more exciting since it was more action oriented which meant less confusing mystery and heavy plot exposition, and finally by the end we got a very nice ending that perfectly wrapped everything up with what the show had to say.

Were there lots of plot holes? There were. Did it inhibit the author from communicating the themes and life lessons that he wanted to teach us? No, not at all, but I do admit the plot holes and the issue I mentioned earlier did bring it down a bit for me. Hopefully we can get something like this in the future, but without the pacing issues.

Can someone clarify something for me? The last scene where they remember the promise from the old hospital, is this confirmation that they regain their memories from the loops?

Decent ending, but the payoffs and climax were severely lacking. The story had a lot of potential but it kept on rushing through potentially amazing plotlines (like the Hishigata family plot) and wasting them hard.

Characters were very shallow throughout and the story made no attempts to further explore them, and even when it kind of does, it rushes through them resulting in it feeling very hollow.

It largely just feels like a dollar store Re:Zero and Higurashi mushed into one, but does absolutely nothing interesting with it. I still enjoyed it but it could've been so much better if it just slowed down and emphasized the characters more. It feels like a 40+ episode series condensed into just 25 and it seriously shows.

Right now, it's a series I will likely forget about in a week's time.

Definitely a sleeper hit for me, this one. Contender for anime of the year.

It feels very rare that a show can truly twist around itself and keep you guessing or not expecting where it's gonna go next. Sometimes shows try to do it and don't really pull it off. This is not one of those, because quite literally it kept going places I wasn't expecting until the very end.

In the end all of the deaths and sacrifices were negated, which could have felt like a cheap cop out for a happy ending. I didn't really get that from the ending. It felt like it was the most logical way to resolve the problem. A story that has a similar premise (namely time hopping) and were doing really neat things with it but has since absolutely screwed it up beyond repairing is

I haven't watched the final eps of MAde in Abyss S2 yet and Chainsaw Man is coming, so we'll see if this one stays anime of the year for me. I'd reckon it will.

I highly recommend it, the latest release is like a breath of fresh air, even my girlfriend has watched some series without me! It means a lot, FYI!
Very intriguing romantic story about time loops with totally new mechanics, a bit of multiverse theory. Detective, drama, supernatural, some very dynamic and beautiful fights, a moderate amount of thoughts of the main character (I love it), the motivation of all actors is well worked out, the cherry on top is love. I haven't seen anything like that before.

I don't see what else it would mean. I took it as that as well. Which is why she says "welcome back" afterwards. And he replies with "I'm home". It's like the veil has lifted and they "merged" with their memories and awaken to see each other again. Quite wholtesome ending.

sad that they did not get all their memories back and only Shinpei and Ushio remember some of the past timelines that is now gone

but glad to see best girl Hizuru is back though and she is the one that written Summer Time Rending story lol some 4th wall action there or is it 4th dimension a higher dimensional being like Shide wants to be

and Haine reincarnated as the child of Ryuunosuke this time

It COULD be interpreted as just a normal "Welcome home", considering he was gone for 2 years without them talking cause of how they said goodbye. That takoyaki thing, them sneaking into the old hospital, might've happened in that timeline too, just without shadows, and they are just happy to be able to talk normally again now, after all that time. I'd say it's ambiguous on purpose.

That being said, I'll go with "they got their memory back" cause I like that more.

I finally finished this Anime after such a long time.

I wasn't expecting to cry when I saw Ryunosuke alive, Hizuru's best friend being his wife and Haine being his daughter.

I won't lie, I was confused by a lot of things, I don't think this series is perfect whatsoever but I enjoyed it a lot.

I enjoyed the show so so much. In my opinion it should've been the talk of the town of its season, but streaming jails..
anyway, I don't think I can add much to the discussion apart from trying to rebuke the view that the ending was such a "good ending" in the sense of happiness, that it cheapens the sacrifices made along the way. Well, I think it does just the contrary, it rewards sacrifices made, it shows that the sacrifices were of such importance that otherwise we'd've gotten a sad ending.
The happy ending for the characters is both a reward to their decision as much as for us watchers who felt all the emotion of loosing them, and caring for them.

I honestly love shows with these supernatural time travel themes. It kind of reminds me of Sakurada Reset. The story started out sad and tragic so I was unsure how will they end it but thankfully it was a good ending. The characters were also quite interesting. The time travel thing was a bit confusing but overall the show was enjoyable.
