The official english sub was poorly executed, with words overlapping as well as not translating the chalkboard and background text (a generic example being "shudder" or something)

Some words are completely different than what actual words are.

I would recommend that anyone watching this find a fansub immediately. They are much better translated and more aesthetically pleasing (not just Arial font pasted over the video)

Piracy is morally and ethically right in this situation. Visit your local online fansub group.

For some reason Netflix's system doesn't allow two lines of sub exit on the screen at the same time so if they translate things like sign of texts they lapped over the conversation so they decided to not translate and it's so frekin annoying
That's why after 1st episodes I switch to some sketchy website instead
Never watch anime on Netflix again

This show seems plagued with bad translations, regardless of nation.

Netflix is awful for anime. It can’t do subtitles properly and it tries put a box in the screen trying to get me to skip the openings and automatically skips the endings and then I have to click back on it to let it play. They’re two/three weeks behind the actual air date which makes keeping up with the community annoying which for a lot of us is a massive reason we watch seasonal anime. If I wasn’t somewhat capable of reading Japanese the entire show would be ruined which is a shame because it’s great and I want everyone to experience it fully. I do my best to avoid watching anime on Netflix.

In Latin America and Brazil, major complaints are because Netflix doesn't translates some boxes and creates in translations neutral pronouns that don't exists to refer some characters in the anime. These "neutral pronouns" only wokes uses and is not valid for Latin Spanish's /Brazilian Portuguese's Rules.

Well bitrate plays a big role in quality. Most pirate streaming sites have shit bitrate, while official (crunchy, netflix) have quite high. They probably meant that. Ofc you can download in same quality as netflix and crunchy if you know where

no matter your fucking reasons pirating makes you a evil human being because lets say everyone who watched the show wouldnt watch it on netflix netflix would be like this show wasnt popular so we arent giving it another season. please please please watch it on netflix no matter what dont be a pirate be a good person ;)

Pirating may be bad, but when it's about a show that is literally unwatchable on the official streaming ser ice it is just fair play against that service.

What I would advice is watching it however you want and then going to see the episodes on Netflix once they come out, you're getting a better experience and also helping the anime. Don't even need to watch the episode, just let it play on your device.

To give some extra data, the latin american version at least is almost unwatchable during the first chapter if you can't read japanese.

If an animated series or live action series is literally unwatchable then why watch it legally?

It is funny that the consumers that want a good service are the bad guys instead of the multi billion company that cant be arsed to spend a a few bucks to replace their shitty player.
You want to tell me taht Netflix isnt just looking for a quick profit and they licensed Kimi-san just FOR US?

Are the consumers a bad person for wanting quality and to UNDERSTAND that the fuck they are watching?

Nah, fuck Netflix and any legal service that gives you less than what fans do for free.

This. Any and all Crunchyroll and Netflix anime translators (most dub scriptwriters as well, looking at you Dragon Maid English Dub..) are 100% incompetent. They inserted gender politics into a non-political anime (see introduction for the protagonist's childhood friend, they claim he's androgynous, but the actual anime says "unknown".

Progressives need to stay away from translating.

Imagine paying for a service to watch a show with a shitty sub. Netflix is literally the worst when it comes to subs. I'd rather pirate the show and use a fansub, thank you very much. Fuck Netflix.

Nijimi is overtly coded as a gender non-conforming person. When a show says that a character's gender is unknown, that by definition implies ambiguity in terms of the character's identity. We also never get a direct answer within the manga, so as far as we're concerned, Nijimi is a part of the "bitches, and bros, and non-binary hoes" club

Netflix translations are generally more accurate and competent than fansubs, any Shaman King fan will tell you that. They also arguably make the shows more popular than before, Beastars is a great example of a show exploding in popularity after it got out of the "Netflix jail", not to mention stuff like Dorohedoro and Baki that are exclusively shown on Netflix and have good subs and dubs.

Also, the reason people were upset at the Komi situation has literally nothing to do with the quality of the translation itself, it's primarily because of the typesetting and the subtitle format, which is fair. But all things considered, Komi is an exception, not the rule (Also also, if you have a problem with Nijimi being non-binary, then send your complaints to the author, this was intentional (P.S. don't actually do that))

Nijimi is a guy in a skirt.

There is no way for you to know that lmao. That's literally never stated or implied within the series. Nijimi is just Nijimi
Tadano's subtitles when he recognizes Nijimi (during Nijimi's first appearance in the show) imply that Nijimi is a guy, but becomes confused when he sees that Nijimi is wearing a skirt. This is the only solid proof that infers that Nijimi is a guy.

You sound like you're a redditor. Please go fuck yourself before you make a fool of yourself more.

No, that scene only implies that Nijimi wasn't wearing a skirt before the start of the series lmao. There is no way to determine that Nijimi is a boy or a girl and they present as both at different points during the series (within the same episode even), therefore they are non-binary. This is not that complicated or scary, bucko
Nijimi is not non-binary. They simply said they don’t know Nijimi’s gender. Stop looking for political truths where there are none.

Najimi could also be a girl that was crossdressing in middleschool and Tadano was unaware of it, then switched back to skirts in highschool.

Either way, yes assigning a gender to Najimi, including bs like genderfluid and nonbinary, is missing the point of the joke.
