| If you mean the same boring kind of tropes as harem shit then I can agree, but there's a lot of different kind of isekai shows. Saying that they follow the same kind if a bit too much. Plot is different in many of them. As for 90's, I honestly haven't seen probably any so I'd like to know some too. |

| Most older isekai aren’t any better, in my opinion. Digimon Adventure is my favorite, and the original anime is most definitely better than the reboot. |

| I think probably Re:Zero is the best Isekai anime of all time.. The characters are great and the world building is amazing.. The plot twist in this series are beyond words and the pacing of story is well balanced. I think that Isekai anime nowdays are not that bad. |

Wait a minute, maybe the only differences between modern isekai and oldschool isekai are oldschool's lack of explicit video game mechanics and more gender diversity of main characters. Even the vaunted Escaflowne features an ordinary schoolgirl being summoned to another world, finding she has a special power that makes her a person of interest to royalty, and getting into a love triangle with two attractive men. |

Wrong decade. Digimon and juuni kokuki are my personal favorite. I have yet to watch Escaflowne but the movie was really good. Magic knight rayearth had good potential but it was over the place. I like the overall story. |
