THIS IS A MANGA ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS ANYTHING BEYOND THIS CHAPTER.
----------------------------------------
Read it originally when it dropped in 2019 in Japanese, but going back and revisiting this volume for the English release today. Read it in one sitting and what a fucking ride. This volume perfectly encapsulates why 86 is the best ongoing LN series. I’m so glad everyone got a nice vacation after the hell they went through in the United Kingdom arc. I was squealing like a little girl during all of the shin and Lena moments throughout, culminating with the fireworks and kiss at the end. Their relationship developed in such a logical and organic manner that it’s impossible not to love it.

I do feel for Kurena who has been trying so hard and not being recognised, but there can only ever be one winner in these affairs. Dustin and Anju’s ship is progressing but Anju understandably is still really cut up about Daiya.

Plot wise, Zelene being able to communicate almost like an actual human was crazy. She even seemed to have human emotions, evidenced by her reaction to shin not hating the legion. Now we have a method to shut the legion down, but will Shin be able to use Frederica as a weapon like that? Looking forward to the English release of volume 8, and I’ll hopefully finish up 9 in JP this week.

Mod Edit: Changed thread title so it reflects that this thread is about the entire volume 7.

Have been hold of on to reading volume 5 and 6 cause I was waiting for this volume to drop and it didn't disappoint me one bit. Spend the last 2 day reading non stop and i can definitely say that volume 5-7 are my favorite part of 86 novel.
I grinned like an idiot on that last part. They went through so much, so all of them deserved this vocation and also seeing not only both of our main characters but all 86 developed in this past volume is really great. Sad that we might not see volume 7 get animate for this upcoming season.

Another great volume like always, the series is only getting better and better. Lena was always a favorite for me but this volume really made me love her even more. Extremely excited for volume 8 especially after looking at the illustrations.

It’s good that we won’t see it. That would mean the pacing is awful. Ideally, 3-4 volumes would be the best for pacing. Volume 1 alone could be an entire cour, but of course the production committee will be out to maximise profit so I imagine they’ll do 1-3 there and 4-5 for cour 2.

I don't think they would stop at volume 5 because that's the middle of an arc. It will most likely end on either volume 4 or 6.

Typo meant 6. It’s definitely doing more than 4.

The PV doesn’t show the whole story lmao. Also I never said they’ll rush. I said I hope they don’t, but given A-1’s track record with LNs in the past and the way production committee usually set up these days, it’ll be at least 3 volumes in the first cour. I don’t think they stop midway through the arc in 5, so that means they’d have to go to 6. No way one volume of a series that’s never got an anime before gets a whole cour. Tensura and LH did it but that’s because they’re established series.

Best case is it’s like Mushoku with 4 eps per volume.

Man, I want 4 volumes at most :)

Maybe 8+4+4+8 or 8+5+5+6 assuming it'll get 24 episodes

Definitely a nice break from all the action.

Make sure to read the afterword, the author wrote a bonus conclusion scene to the last chapter in there.

Finally after so long got to read this volume physically, and I loved it. It was a very calm volume which was mainly just slice of life stuff, but it worked for this series after tons of action and battles with each volume. Good way to kickstart the Lena-Shin relationship too, which I'm glad they pulled the trigger at the appropriate time and not just near the end of the series since there's still so much room for them to grow while dating, and prolonging it till the end would just feel like the series is milking it dry. It was refreshing to see Shin so open like that, and have the determination to confess his feelings to her after she basically gave him the reason to live on after finishing off his brother earlier in the series. Great stuff.

I really think you should be changing that title, it is NOT chapter, but volume, I know it is a pain in the ass to create new posts for LNs, but this would make it easier for everyone to identify this discussion as from volume 7.
Imagine someone that has read chapter 7 of volume 1 coming here and getting spoiled!

Anyway, last time I commented it was for vol3, so I do have some catching up to do, since I did binge-read volumes 5-7 like crazy, as a testament to how good again the series has become, after the more shaky but still enjoyable 2-3 volumes.

Briefly:
Volume 4 - I loved to see Lena finally returning in full force and that first chapter was very emotional and something I was long waiting for, and in general I enjoyed the direction the plot starts going here, Strike Package and all, but I felt a bit bored nearing the ending tbh, I stopped reading for a few months in the last 90 minutes to end this volume and had to force myself a bit to come back.
It was an improvement over 2-3 but the latter half was a bit forgetful to me.

Volume 5 - Ended enjoyed a lot the change in setting, Vika & Lerche plus the Sirens were very welcoming inclusions to the series, I think it paid off, the Sirens controversy helped tons to give the push Shin needed to start to question himself more, and in the end of the volume he realizes he doesn't know anything about Lena and wants to know more~~
Fight wast pretty fierce this volume felt the struggle PLUS, pilot suits are great, once again got to agree with the writer. xD

Volume 6 - This volume came pretty close in enjoyment to how I felt about volume 1, the best so far from 2-6.
Loved the development not only for the characters but also that we are finally making some meaningful progress now that they captured The Merciless Queen.
This was already one volume that had me from start, I was very invested and loved it throughout, and while Lena x Shin had some really sweet scenes here, it cant touch on what volume 7 does, but it has to be given lots of credit for that major developments volumes 5-6 gave.

Now onto Volume 7, Asato had promised the next volume was going to be much more lighthearted and fulfilled that promise, and was a bit worried on that afterword about having almost no combat... I was pleased overall, the series NEEDED one like this, not as good as volume 6, but very much so enjoyable, and the kicks are finally given that sets Lena and Shin determined to come through with their feelings, awesome.
BUT, I honestly felt disappointed that the volume ended with that scene and we really can't see right away the obvious developments, that is to say, THANK GOD for the afterwords!
Asato Asato did it great, calling a bonus, more like necessary, it was a freaking sweet continuation not letting us hanging on, at least seeing both side's reactions, it was easily the most adorable moment in this series.
It will be very hard to top such a sweet scene, it was really loveable to see Lena letting her feelings took absolute control like that, that after she has done it and realizes, CUTE.
This afterword avoided a landmine IMO, thank you!

This volume shed light on the Legion in major ways, I was very intrigued with Zennete confessions and all the implications.
Being so light, it was a joy to read, more than ever, it was hardly stressful and so sooo sweet~~

Thankfully volume 8 release is around the corner, but I do plan to put the series on hold for a while after it, because I really dislike waiting many months per volume to read, reading volume 5-7 in such a short time was pivotal for my enjoyment.

If the anime adaptations progress this far, I will be a very happy man!

You can’t do volume posts for LNs for whatever reason and you can’t change it retroactively, everyone knows what this post is for so it’s no need anyway.

No, you can, the person that posts the post can then edit the name of the post itself, and change it from chapter to volume. You can change it, how do you think other people got around to do it?

If the OP edits its original post, he will have the opportunity to edit "Topic Title" which will let you change the name and even polls-related stuff.
Again, don't say you can't change it retroactively, how do you think people got around to do this " 86 Volume 6 Discussion"?

It is annoying when you have to create an LN poll, because you have to write a chapter name and awhile at it, make create a new post, and not write on already existing ones, but after that, you solely need to edit your original post, the first one and you can easily do this.

I have to disagree, not everyone knows this is about volume 7, people new here can be caught unaware and get spoiled.
I myself was going to create a volume 7 post because I searched and found nothing, I really was pretty skeptical but decided to still check this anyway since I had nothing to lose, thankfully I did, because it is even more bothersome when you see a post that discusses a volume, then you have another post named chapter with older comments to that same volume.

I guess that to this day, there are still some users misinformed, but it is bothersome and misleading to be discussing volumes but naming the post "chapters".

To clear up some confusion:

This thread is supposed to be about volume 7 (not chapter 7). I edited it a few months ago to make it into a volume discussion but I missed changing the thread title. I've changed it now, so it should be clear now that this is a volume discussion.

And yeah, users can change thread titles themselves, also for chapter discussions. But before anyone now thinks "yes, I will use this to create volume threads": No, that's not how it should be done.

When you create a chapter discussion with the system, it will be linked to the chapter and when a user finishes this chapter, they will be redirected to the respective chapter thread. Users who created the chapter discussion can't see this internal chapter information though so they can't edit this information after they created the thread. So if you create a chapter thread and then edit it and change the title to a volume thread, the internal chapter information still remains and people will get redirected incorrectly.

At the moment, the only way to create a volume thread without problems is to create a new thread without the chapter system and write the thread title and poll options manually.

A volume system wasn't implemented in the past because we barely had any (light) novels on MAL. Now that we have a lot more it definitely makes sense to implement a volume system for threads too so hopefully we will see this in the future. Until then, volume threads should be created manually and if you accidentally created one with the chapter system or see a volume thread created with the chapter system you can report it and a forum mod will fix it.

I hope this clears up all the confusion, so now you can continue discussing this volume~
(Please don't turn this thread into a discussion about how to create volume discussions, this is off-topic and not fun for the users who want to discuss the volume)

Asato-sensei didn't deceive us this time! It was a full on lighthearted volume, hooray!

I love this volume so much, it was such a needed volume. The Eighty-Six finally receiving a well deserved vacation. The meeting at the beginning of chapter 1 where the Federacy higher ups were acting like evil masterminds when they're just gonna give them a vacation was fucking hilarious lmao.

Hot springs, dates, pillow fights, fireworks, fanservice, swimsuits, Asato really went all out with the tropes and I loved it. The way Shin and Lena's relationship progressed throughout the series is cathartic, it's so well done, and we ain't even done yet, there's still more progress to come. But that kiss was just so good, I got diabetes, Shin and Lena looks so good together. And from what I can tell, I think the favorite feature that they like about each other is their eyes, that's sweet.

The callback to volume 1 with the fireworks was really nice, felt really sad about Anju though, that was just around the time when Daiya died. Anju still can't move on from Daiya and I doubt she will until the war is over, but even so, she still cares a lot for Dustin even if she still can't see him the same way she does Daiya, but maybe someday. I want the both of them to live and have a future together someday, they deserve it. All of them do.

We got very diabetes inducing wholesome moments, but we also got some important information from Zelene. Plus we were also introduced to the androgynous Olivier who will join the Strike Package from here on out. It's really interesting to see Zelene still be herself, but if there's a saying for her, it's gotta be, "Sometimes good intentions, have unexpected consequences." All she wanted was for war and death to disappear, but it backfired. So I understand her not just talking to anyone since the legion could just end up with another country that wants to take over other countries.

The question is, what will Shin do with the information that he obtained? He can't just tell anyone, not even Frederica. So I look forward to what he will do.

I love Asato's reasoning for the volume title lmao. 𝟪𝟨—𝐸𝒾𝑔𝒽𝓉𝓎-𝒮𝒾𝓍: 𝒯𝒽𝑒 𝒮𝓉𝑒𝒶𝓂𝓎 𝒱𝒶𝒸𝒶𝓉𝒾𝑜𝓃 𝒜𝓇𝒸 would have not been bad as well ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°). I really enjoy her afterwords, their hilarious, plus we also got extra stuff with the kiss. It's back to business next volume, I am ready for the pain.

Finally had the time to sit down and read this and it took me like what, 4 months to continue volume 6?

Is it weird that I was more engaged with their interactions rather than the actions/fights against the Legion? I don't know, it's always interesting to see characters interact with one another. And with tragedy in the battlefield constantly occuring, they deserve this momentary peace.

It finally happened. I'm happy for the both of them. I was smiling throughout that last chapter. This... this is how you write romance.

Now with that out of the way, we're going back to the field. It's time to get serious once more.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA THE PAYOFF AFTER ALL THOSE SUFFERING SHIN WENT THROUGH, also Lena whom I didn't realized lost everything during the Legion invasion in the Republic. THEY ARE NOW OFFICIALLY TOGETHER YEEEEEEEEE

Plot-wise, can't Shin trust Ernst with the method to shut down the Legion as revealed by Zelene? Heck, even telling Frederica she's the key won't hurt would it?

My only complaint for this volume are the new Alliance characters, we barely get to see and know much about Michihi

It's refreshing to finally read a volume without constant battles and tension. Would love to see more volumes like this one coz it's way more relaxing and fun to read character interactions than trying to rack my brain to make sense of each and every battle situation that goes through the author's mind.

AHHH I've been waiting for this!!

What a volume, truly one of my favorite series of all time, the romance was done so well. I liked how both characters knew in their heart that they liked each other, and all the conflicts and questions made so much sense considering their past.

This is truly amazing, I hope some day all of the volumes are adapted into the anime.

This LN isn't about the critique of Classism, Racism, or any of that. It's a decorated play for Lena and Shin's eventual blossom of life. LMAO. This LN is using these "deep" themes to decorate itself from the fact that this is a romcom!

What a fucking joke.

I am absolutely loving this volume! Still currently reading it but its so good!

I love the fact that everyone is calling Lena their Queen. Queen is such a fitting title for her.

I also love how everyone is supporting them like when they were sitting eating and they had the girls and boys on both sides supporting their side (Girls for Lena, Boys for Shin)

Edit: HOLY SHIT THIS VOLUME!!! THEY'RE FINALLY TOGETHER YEEEESSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!

As the volume was going on I was like "I'd be very surprised if they didn't end up together by the end of this volume". Yeah this definitely is my favourite volume. I knew I'd love this volume when I saw the cover was Shin & Lena dancing together.
