| So basically ... the world we saw in the third movie, is gone because Shinji at the end of the final movie restarted the universe/world. In this new world we see glimpses of some familiar characters living happy normal life, free from conflict with the angels and evas ? (correct me if i summarized the spoilers wrong) I mean ? Im not mad at all. Since EoE i wanted a happy ending where our main characters and side characters can live happy life. I dont really care who ended up with whom really. |

| I suppose if the universe has been reset any old pairing makes sense, although why Mari who's English and Asuka who's German would be in Japan if they're not there to pilot Evas I don't know. It doesn't seem very narratively coherent for Shinji to end up with a character he spoke to twice in 2.0. Shinji must surely have a lot of screen time with Mari in 3.0+1.0 for that to make any kind of sense. Although one of the spoilers apparently claimed Mari is roughly the same age as Gendo and Yui, so I'm not sure why she would be the same age as Shinji at the end. Are we sure these leaks aren't just trolling? |

| Sometimes I feel like people really are not paying attention when they watch things. NGE was never about who I ship with who. It's about growing up, developing links and connection with other people. Accepting that we cannot change the past and it's within us to work hard at improving ourselves. In that regard, I think that what I read in the spoilers is a very positive ending. Shinji as developed normal relationships to people |

New Rei Shinji: The New Rei develops feelings for Shinji but Asuka reveals that the Ayanami Rei series is programmed to do so. Rei doesn’t care and seeks to reach out to Shinji and he is able to open up to her. Sadly she discovers she is going to die and in her last words confesses her feelings towards Shinji and says she’s happy before dying. Shinji is next seen with red eyes (from crying) as he announces his decision to go back to the Wille ship. Original Rei Shinji: The original Rei is shown with long overgrown hair and it’s implied that she was in the 01 unit all along. Shinji is shown to have a connection with Rei and Eva 01 which he uses to enter the plug. During the last act she expresses remorse that she wasn’t able to make it so that Shinji didn’t have to ride in Evas anymore and he says it’s fine and that he’ll take it from here. Mari Shinji: There’s not much interaction between the two but when Asuka and Mari go to visit Shinji before the final battle Mari sneaks up behind Shinji and says “Guess who? Here’s a hint, it’s a sexy lady with big breasts” and he’s able to answer pretty quickly that it’s the parachute girl. She smells him and says his smell has changed and they go to fight. During the fight she helps deliver the new spear of hope that Misato made for Shinji using the Wunder, and in the aftermath as Shinji is left alone sitting on the beach of a blue ocean, she drops out of the sky with her Eva as it disappears and she lands in the sea in her school outfit. Shinji runs to greet her. In the future Japan in back to normal and Shinji is waiting on a platform. Mari comes up behind him and says “Guess who?” Shinji replies “A sexy lady with big breasts”. My memory gets fuzzy here so bear with me but they talk and Mari goes in to smell him which is baited out as a kiss and she remarks about how he smells like an adult (?) and he answers back about her being cute or something I can’t remember specifics here. They then run up the platform stairs laughing and holding hands. Thematically it makes sense that Shinji ends up with the girl she had the least history with, and that he helps Rei and Asuka move on whilst moving on himself. |

| (Warning: this will be long, and i mean loooooong. And will contain not only spoilers for this, but also for the manga and other media. You have been warned.) So, i first read the spoilers on reddit, and at first i was like "No. People are trolling, right?... Right?" and then i had the "brilliant" idea of while i was on yt before going to sleep, checking some guy let´s play, to check if there was video of that (only saw 2 scenes, one of them the ending), so i confirmed, at least, some of the comments. Let´s be honest, we all knew it would happen, it was a matter of days. If people are thinking why i would do that. Bear in mind that i (normally) don´t care if someone tells me how something ends, because as they say, for me the important isn´t how it ends, it´s the journey there. Tho, not the brightest idea having done that late at night, because i spent 2 hours lying in bed going left and right, while my brain was in overdrive trying to make sense of what i had just watched. With that said, i only had 1 expectation for this whole Rebuild series. Get an ending that i could say "Okay. I´m satisfied.". I never daydreamed about a particular way about how i liked it to end, i didn´t care if we had an epilogue showing what happened to the characters years in the future, months or just days after the final battle. Just something that could put this to rest, finally. Not that difficult, right? Evangelion is my nº1 anime of all time, but if you ask me if i prefer Asuka x Shinji or Ayanami x Shinji (no, i was never part of the Kaworu x Shinji), i would say that i´d be fine either way. But, after watching the first 3 movies i was, obviously, thinking it would be Asuka x Shinji. Ayanami x Shinji was a ship that died for me after what happened at the end of 2.0 and the events of 3.0 (even more after the troll thing of the trailer at the end of 2.0 having almost nothing to do with what actually happened on 3.0), so i thought it was all set to be Asuka x Shinji. Well, as i said, long and ranty. I guess Rifujin was right when he said that even if the new movie was awesome (i think he posted this before the movie came out), maybe we would be happier not seeing it, to maintain the good memories of the original series. *siiiiiiiigggggggggghhhhhhhh* |

| The curious thing about the ending for me is that I always understood the Rebuilds as being more “mainstream” as a means of raising money for Khara, so I’d have thought Anno would have gone with a more crowd pleasing choice at the end. Maybe Shin Godzilla made him so much f**k off money he doesn’t need to create new fans to buy the merchandise anymore? Personally I think they’d have been best going with an ending like Shinji Ikari Raising Project, where it’s left open for people to assume whichever ‘ship they like might happen. Plus I think seeing all of the characters who went through so much together as a group at the end running off towards the sunset (or out of a train station...) just being normal school kids with a normal life ahead of them would have been nice. |
