My sister wants to get into anime and I cannot think of many that are appropriate for her. What are some animes appropriate for little girls up to 10 and younger?

Edit: So far my sister has finished Bananya, Donyatsu, Ponyo, and Somali and the Forest Spirit.

She is currently watching Himouto! Umaru-chan, Layton Mystery Tanteisha: Katri no Nazotoki File, Little Witch Academia, Micchiri Neko, Shirokuma Cafe, and Yuru Camp△.

She has put most of your recommendations on her plan to watch so thank you all!!!

For action My Hero Academia or Noragami would be a decent start for that age I guess (that's of course if you want your sister to see a bit of blood - Noragami has slightly more than MHA.) BOFURI is also a good action anime without any gore that I would recommend. Though I would also recommend much more light hearted shows like Yuru Camp, Non Non Biyori, and Himouto! Umaru-chan.

Oh, and I know that Sailor Moon would also be great for a girl that age. Pokemon as well.

Amanchu!, Hanamaru Kindergarten, any Studio Ghibli movie, Sgt. Frog, Chi's Sweet Home, Wakako-zake! Very easy to follow plots and the art styles are on the more simple side!

Maybe something like Tokyo Mew Mew, Shugo Chara or Cardcaptor Sakura if she's into magical girls.

Definitely all of the Ghibli films. Many people watch those as a kid. Also Wolf Children is a really good movie for children as well.

As for non-movies, I would recommend Little Witch Academia, Polar Bear Cafe, Dinosaur King, and D.I.C.E.

Then you have the generic 'saturday morning cartoon' shows like Pokemon, Kirby, Yu-gi-oh, Digimon, etc. You can also show her watch a whole bunch of magical girl shows if she likes those.

After that your best bet is to do an advanced search on MAL and look for anything rated G or PG. You can filter by type if you want a Movie or TV series specifically.

Will you be needing subs or dubs? Not sure if a 7 year old can read fast enough to enjoy a series that's only available subbed. And is English your native language?

Was gonna mention this one as well :)

Romeo no Aoi sora, it's appropriate for all ages and has some great themes and morals behind it.

Kuromajo-san ga Tooru, Kaitou Joker, Dragon Quest: Dai no Daibouken (2020), Gundam Build Fighters and maybe Mahoujin Guruguru (2017).

Yeah, those are mostly for boys (except Kuromajo-san ga Tooru) but I guess girls wouldn't mind.

Somebody mentioned World Masterpiece Theater, I would recommend The Swiss Family Robinson: Flone of the Mysterious Island from it.

Pupa obviously. Maybe if you're lucky it'll rub off on her. Also Totoro is a pretty obligatory answer. She might find Spirited Away and Princess Mononoke too scary. Have you tried showing her Hamtaro yet? :o

Show her this two lists, comment them a bit and then let her pick one.

PG-rated anime sorted by score (fits her age group best)
G-rated anime sorted by score
You can limit the genres in the advanced MAL search along with the MPAA rating (above links are "all genres"). In my experience picking an anime is half the fun. So if you want to get her into anime, show her how to find ones she likes first ...

From what I've watched from those lists (i.e. top rated G and PG TV shows, with strong girls as MC):
https://myanimelist.net/anime/1212/Oban_Star-Racers
https://myanimelist.net/anime/232/Cardcaptor_Sakura
https://myanimelist.net/anime/33089/Kemono_Friends
https://myanimelist.net/anime/2164/Dennou_Coil

And of course the many good movies in the listing.

Tamagotchi and Jewel Pets. If she is a tomboy, she might like Pokemon Sun & Moon. Idk, anything cute might be good for her. Hamtaro might also be good too.

I haven't watched it yet, but I guess Cardcaptor Sakura may be the best choice. It was my sister's first anime, and from what she said, it's light-hearted, well written and quite wholesome as well. Pretty fitting for a little girl too.

Would be my choice too! However I guess I would have been spooked to death by Chihiro at that age.
I remember i loved Digimon and Doremi when I was 8. They just remade Digimon Adventure. That’s definitely safe to watch.
Also Doraemon!

Little Witch Academia. This one is full of positivity and wholesome humour.
Pokemon. This one is going to cost you money in the long run..

I'd say avoid slice of life without some kind of plot. Your 7 year old wants to follow stories. Her mind needs it.
