| it's published in shounen but really horimiya seems more for shoujo than anything. both the leads are very refreshing characters, especially miyamura - he speaks his mind readily, unfiltered almost, doesn't really care what others think of him, would rather stay in the shadows, is honest and very likeable, i just love him. the OVA adaptation doesn't do the manga & characters any justice for how good they were! |

| Whoa, agree with all you listed there.. XD As an addition... I'll probably add Shirayuki (Akagami Shirayukihime) too. She isn't exactly iconic, but definitely different from the usual shoujo FL. At least she doesn't get her head full of romance even after she dates Zen. XD I also found unique FLs on manhwas, although the MLs were almost all so generic (lol). Also, honorable mention to Bakarina (aka Katarina from hamefura) since iirc the novel was listed as shoujo. |

| Absolutely, you are 110% right. It's also R+ and deals with very mature subject matters, in very mature ways. But I got used to do "best of X" based strictly on MAL tags. Else all debate hell breaks loose with discussions why XYZ is "mistagged" and should be an A rather than a B, because it's side story was published in this and that short lived Seinen oriented manga yabba yabba. Been there done that, don't want the t-shirt :) => Nana is shoujo, it's better to make that type of small mistake than all alternative options. Pasta, e basta. EDIT: Of that 6 chars, Nana isn't even the worst. The deepest mystery in Shoujo Kakumei Utena isn't her childhood and the coffin, but how the show managed to get PG-13 from MPAA. Arguably Akio Ootori does stuff that would make both Nanas blush... |

| Souma kyou-From Fruits basket-I like him not because he's unique but cuz he's a male tsundure. Natsume Takashi-From Natsume Book of friends-His circumstances and the way he deals them makes him a real unique from other shoujo mcs. |
