Character design and art-style were ai'ght. Directing and pacing weren't. Never read the source material, apparently it's a webcomic. But if it's anything like the anime, I don't think I'll bother.

I don't consider it anime, because of it's origin.

I hope it's not as mediocre and Overrated as Solo Leveling, but i think people shouldn't overhype it too much, this way people won't have a high expectation and more people will enjoy it.
it has also an art style that a lot of people may not like, i hope it won't be judge by it's art style because i hate it when people ignore some work just because they don't like the art style

Same, just like how you wouldn't consider non-Japanese swords Katanas, this is the same way

I've only read part of it but it's been worth the read so far. The focus is definitely more on action than romance from what I've read. Intelligence isn't a big part of Bam's character but there's plenty of other characters that are smart.

I wouldn't consider it, yeah. it is just an opinion after all, not a fact. there's one exception I'm willing to make however.
if the series is a passion project by the director, and not some committee ordered advertisement. It's hard to find non-commercial anime these days so I have my doubts. also keep in mind, I don't know anything about these two shows or why they were made.

so most stuff where the source isn't Japanese you don't count as anime?. fair enough though

Unlike others, let me give you a proper honest answer.

It doesn't focus much on romance, almost doesn't focus at all, but there is plenty of action. The main character is a clueless wimp at the beginning because he basically grew up in a dark cave. He didn't even know what the sky was. But later he of course gets some serious character development (but you won't really see that in the anime). I'd say while not being exceptionally smart, he's not an airhead shounen protagonist-like character either.

I personally love the webtoon, as you can guess from my signature. Will you like it? Maybe you will, maybe you won't. I recommend watching the anime first and then reading the webtoon from season 2 onwards, if you're interested.

The anime is doing a decent job adapting. The webtoon's first season wasn't very high quality. It's one of those stories that get better as the universe expands.

I read Solo Leveling too, so I can at least say that you won't like the art in ToG. I dropped ToG after a few ch several years ago. Try The Breaker, I'm pretty sure the art is what hooked you into reading Solo Leveling in the first place since you're referring to it

ToG focuses a lot on action and none on romance. I thought it was a good manhwa, it similar to HxH tho HxH is better. I was fine with the first season since its main goal is to set up background of the tower and to set up MC's story. But as others said, the second season really picks up some action.

I'm at episode 296 of the webtoon and atleast right now, I'm enjoying the story, world building, and characters more than my first reading sessions of Solo-Leveling (currently chapter 99), although Solo-Leveling is much more fast paced, perfect for fight scenes. It's leaning towards action more than romance, and the world building just keeps on going. The art starts is eh, but progressively gets better although not on par with the consistency of Jang, Sung-rak's art because even from the start, Solo-Leveling immediately sets a standard for its own manhwa's artstyle level for the later chapters. You'll probably like a character or more other than the main trio, Bam, Khun, and Rak, since most of the side characters here are also being handled with outmost care by SIU, too, if not all.

The main character, Bam, isn't super bright off the bat in the manhwa, but thats what makes his design pretty good because his character development so far is done slowly but surely, improving both in skill and as a person/character. His development is just right, allowing him to compliment with other characters, something that isn't that present in Solo-Leveling at points. Sung, Jin-Woo works well as a lone wolf with his army, but gets too op right away to even do great team strategic fights with other hunters most of the time let alone compliment with them, which is not bad, although if you're more into team, strategic, action scenes and character-to-character relationships (I don't mean romantic), then you lean to Bam and co. more.

These are just my personal opinions so it might not align with others. These are just based on my perspective.

Btw, consistency of artstyle is different from quality of artstyle. When it comes to their full potential, both artstyles are great, but they're meant for different tastes.

I decided to start reading Tower of God because the hype surrounding it was immense.

I got 119 chapters in [out of about 475] and I finally decided to drop it with a rating of 5 or 4. I kept giving it second chances, but I just couldn't see what any of the hype was about. The MC is very stereotypical "fight for my friends", the story bounces around a lot, between the character shifts and time skips, so you dont really get attached to any particular character and on the whole I personally didnt find it enjoyable.

A lot of people keep telling me to "keep reading, it gets SO good later on!" but why should I keep reading when 119 chapters wasn't enough to get me immersed???

On the whole, I think Tower of God is pretty damn overrated (And I read a good amount of Manhwa), at least from what I experienced, but this is just an opinion of course and people can feel free to disagree.

I heard that thare are a lot of betrayals in the manhwa, but that it isn't too bad.

When it comes to the anime adaptation I can't understand how people say it isn't anime when it's literally made by the same studio as Orange, is fully voiced in Japanese and even the opening and ending are despite sung by a K-Pop group also in Japanese. Its a Korean manhwa that turned into an anime.

I respect your opinion, and to be honest, the introduction is actually long on paper. The story could probably go another 500 and still would have so much to cover. I like steadily made stories even in other stories of any kind other than asian-made, which is probably why I can endure the introduction, but its a problem for those who don't want to spend too much time and effort. Season 1 just serves as an introduction for most of the characters and the kickstart of the story, and season 2's first part also serves as an introduction to another set of characters. So, if you're a person who really doesn't like these long introductions, then you're really going to have difficulty with Tower of God, which really might not be for you, and its really okay.

For the "fight for my friends" thing, it has the potential to become an issue, seeing how its going on in where I'm reading (correct me if I'm wrong, those beyond 296). A lot of things happen, but people will develop a bit of annoyance with Bam. That's why their are "certain characters" that pinpoint those problems regarding Bam's character to him, and I'm telling you, its pretty satisfying.

Then again, I'm not secretly forcing you to continue. You be you, and that's perfectly okay.

As someone who’s read the source material I can tell you the fans who say ‘it gets better’ or makes up some shitty excuse to make you keep watching is wrong. Sure the story delves deeper further along but if you’re not already enjoying the first 3 episodes then you probably won’t enjoy everything else.

I think it's good, not the best of the season tbh, for example, Gleipnir and Kaguya-sama is a lot more enjoyable for me.

Not my favorite anime, boring premise and not exactly what I expected. In the end, I prefer crime dramas and thrillers.

i'll be honest with you, i hated the webcomic and i was even saltier that ToG was the first webtoon to get adapted, so i haven't watched it yet.

anime-onlys seem to be liking it so far though.
