Not only was he hospitalized for overwork, he also wants compensation for unpaid overtime and an apology for power harassment he suffered.

You may want to think twice before buying an anime made by Madhouse, that anime might be good, but your money is going to a bad place, a suspected black company. Something has to be done about the industry's treatment of their staff, even halving the number of anime will help prevent overwork.

How many people here do you think actually pay for anime anyway?

Sucks for him. Good luck on his quest for compensation. I personally can't care enough though.

Again, all the best to him, don't get me wrong.

>buying anime
>pretty much everyone here is a pirate, and even the small minority who do use legal sites to watch anime dont go so far as buy the blurays.

MadHouse is probably not the only one making employees to overwork.
You can buy lossless digital music from your favorite Japanese artists on https://ototoy.jp/.
The songs are all DRM-free and you can re-download your purchased albums as you wish.
Show your support to your favorite artist if you can!
ps. if you are looking for Japanese albums, you have to search it in Japanese (not romaji). Just copy and paste the name.

Yeppers, its pretty common in Japan to overwork till the point its detrimental to one's health, its not just Madhouse. You might need to boycot every Japanese product, lol.

The gov. has taken some steps to reduce the work hours, but the iffy work culture still persists.

It's so bad at the moment that it's going to take CEOs being punished with jail time and major lawsuits won before we see any change. I wish this was dealt with before the Showa Era ended, it was in the world spotlight as early as 1980.

the animator shortage crisis will just get worse since news like this makes the anime industry unattractive for employment, who wants low pay and overwork job lol

thats also why im fine if the anime industry shift more to 3DCG animation since 3D anime studios only require few 3D animators so they can pay them more well and its because its done in computers more then stuff like rendering is automated and not make the 3D animators overwork like having overtime

The anime industry is not ready yet, unless you're only talking about Sunrise, Toei, and Bandai-Namco, you need a high budget for good CG.

there are already a growing list of dedicated 3D anime studios though like Polygon Pictures, SANZIGEN, Studio Orange, Digital Frontier, Sola Digital Arts, Shirogumi, Graphinica, and some more that i forgot

even ghibli is doing this. the problem is way beyond madhouse.

Seriously, why does Japan have such TERRIBLE working conditions?

This shit is so bad there’s even a term for it...”Karoshi”.

Just goes to show you that every country has their bad sides...people like to praise Japan for a lot of things, but this is a HUGE problem...not just in the anime industry but in the general Japanese Workplace.

And of course we won’t even get into the suicide factor that is many times tied to this overworked culture.
