So lately I've been dealing with crippling depression where all I want to do is lay in bed have no one bother me, and just waste away. Don't worry I am not really suicidal just in a dark place in my life. How do you go about coping with it? Lately while I am laying in bed wasting away I listen to Sleepycast, their humor tends to perk me up a little, napping helps...that's kinda all I have, it's all I've really been doing this last few days during these moments, Some would say the weather would cause it, but I am always depressed just to a much lighter degree 99% of the time. So how do you deal with it?

There isn't any way to truly "cope" with depression but you can always do little things that pick you up like watching your favorite TV show or talking to a close friend or family member. (I am not an expert that just works for me)

Depends on what the root cause of the depression is for me, but I usually listen to music at high volumes or sometimes watching horror/thriller/eerie tv shows or anime makes me break the feelings I'm going through because I start to tap back into my more cruel side and for some reason it relieves my stress. Other ways to potentially alleviate stress for me are to do tasks that require more motor skills and focus, like editing new images for a forum, banner, or any graphics where I have to delve into small details and focus on editing. Also eating, I eat tons when I'm stressed out because food is the cure to everything.

As someone who is mentally ill, I have to take medication to cope with what I'm going through. Not saying that you're on the exact path, but if this depression gets worse, you might have to look into professional help. The right kind of treatment, with medication and therapy, can work. It's still tough dealing with depression. What I do is try to focus on anything I find interesting. Any sort of music or books or games to give me some interests or inspiration to keep moving forward.

I'm quite sure that most teens to mid-20s have experienced a prolonged depression in their life. I personally did and questioned my existence after a few hiccups in my studies.

It's still far too early to say that you have this A-B-C mental illness, that's just far-fetched. The only thing you must do is to submit yourself to prudent state.

For example, "if I go depressed for 1-2-3 days/weeks, what would I accomplish? Will I change anything or just be depressed again?"

"But if I do/aim this x activity, I might enjoy it and find my career and belonging.."

That's how I coped up and fixed myself during my dark times. If didn't, I would be sulking til now and probably hate myself because I wasted a lot of time being depressed.

I was nothing until the moment I met you.

I don't think I've ever been depressed. When I'm sad, I jump into my hobbies, try to recover and start fresh. Something like that, everyone is different so a method might work for some and not for others. I think, doing nothing is depressing which adds more to depression.

Having survived the storm that made me suffer so much, I don't really know how to cope with any bouts of feeling low now. I just feel glad to have made it out of that hellhole called my depression alive. I'm also realising that the world can be beautiful (yes, I do know that horrible things still happen all the time and stuff, but yeah...) and no longer hate myself so much and nor do I want to kill myself. In fact, putting up with my friend's suicidal thoughts and behaviour over such a silly thing regarding her crush ignoring her makes me stressed a lot, and sometimes I just want to stop being her friend because it makes me feel a bit low too.

I guess when I feel stressed over school or my friendships, I try to distract myself by indulging in watching happier anime and stalking seeing my crush (doesn't apply to most of you, I know).

i've been trying to find peace in depression. instead of fighting it, i try to embrace it. embracing it does hurt, i'm not gonna lie. i will also do something productive, like wash the dishes, clean my room, play piano, or something of that nature. turning to food, anime, or internet usually worsens the sadness. taking a nap usually works sometimes too. staying away from news outlets also helps since politics today is a huge circlejerk, and news reports are usually filled with bad things. garbage in, garbage out. also, everyone is different, so this may not work for you.

its kinda funny how depression exists when we live in an age of the most advanced technology, most peaceful, most abundant, etc. i suppose this is the duality of human existence. can't have happiness without sadness, and vice versa. one could argue that there are truly happy people, i.e. musicians who have made it, actors/actresses, or generally successful people. then again, we don't know what goes on behind their normal human lives.

existence is difficult, and has been since humans have roamed planet earth. gl mate.

I'm depressed all the time, sometimes just more than usually. And yeah, it gets crippling during the worst times. There's really nothing I can do about it, other than wait for it to pass, since I don't have energy to do anything but lay in bed.

However, when it's not quite as bad and I can at least somewhat function, I like to try and concentrate on something like drawing (kind of to vent) or going out for long walks (which doesn't always work to my advantage since I always end up thinking about everything due to being alone in the quiet nature). I would want to say that watching series and playing video games also helps, but then again at least personally I feel like it just gets me into a lazy state and it's harder to start doing productive things again.

I don't think I do cope, to be honest. I live on willforce, but lately my brain gets fried over small obsessive thoughts. Unfortunately psychological help isn't all that well-developped around here, and I just don't have time and money to look for a good specialist by checking them one by one. Tho I probably should already. But there's also a social stigma and I am afraid to be diagnosed and get a mental illnes label attached.

The stuff that I learned the hard way is:
- depression doesn't pass by itself,
- it progresses,
- escapism doesn't help, leave it for the hardest moments, otherwise you'll hate yourself later for wasting time (yeah, it goes full circle),
- actually you can't escape at all, it's always with you,
- it can affect you physically.

Nowadays in order to stay functional I make myself go through motions and force myself to feel fine about my life - otherwise I lose sleep, appetite or both or get toothaches. I also try to improve things that attribute to my stress, though there's so much work to do, sigh. The one random advice for battling depression I've picked up somewhere that I try to follow is doing at least one productive thing per day, as being productive makes you feel beter about yourself.

Find something you genuinely care about and direct your attention there. There's nothing worse then feeling like life is meaningless, but it's really not meaningless and what worked for me was just finding stuff I think is amazing like scuba diving, cars, producing beats on SoundCloud or anime/manga.

I think the cure for depression is just being able to find stuff you care about and realizing the significance of the world beyond your negative thoughts.

When I had depression, the people I surrounded myself with was toxic as fuck. You need to find people who will force you to be happy and you need a space where you can think about everything and chill. I always rested on my roof at night and looked at the stars. It wasn't until I had a better friend and a better mindset did anything get better. BTW never cut. It may dull the pain but it never truly makes the pain turn into happiness.
