What do you mean by agame ga kill mess?

And did you not see what this episode is all about? Did you even watch it? Or is it maybe that you are not mature enough to understand it...

I'm sorry, but I'm not into torture porn to "understand it" because that's all this episode was.

Where exactly did you see torture porn..?
Subaru only got rejected by three candidates because he doesn't know how to negotiate with people that are in a higher rank. He never was tortured in his episode..?
He even WAS helped by Anastasia, even though she used him, she still got him an earth dragon which lead him to find Otto and to find a way to save everyone, which probably won't work, but looked pretty good.

The point here is that I don't see Re:Zero as your classic ( and NO I WON'T USE THE WORD EDGY ) mainstream shonen with all the harem ( No, Re:Zero isn't a harem. Only one girl out of the 3432 is interested in the MC. Thus, not a harem. ) and OP characters. I don't want to say it's the most mature anime ever, but I do see it as far more mature than shows like SAO, SnK, Tokyo Ghoul, Fairy Tail ( no shit lol ).

If you can't understand what's going on correctly and can only describe it as ''Torture porn'', yes, I do believe you're not mature enough to understand this show.

Hell, even Fai was at least giving arguments beside the ''woa it 2 gore''.

Finally, after two entire first arcs where my dislike for Subaru couldn't be greater, I can say I genuinely enjoy him as a character. Not because he's suffering, but because he's now acting and reacting in a way I find relatable.

Mind me: my suspension of disbelief with his character was broken pretty early, basically after the first five episodes: Subaru doesn't want to return home. He doesn't care. For whatever reason the journey home, which should be the natural objective of this character is not there. The show then proceeded to alienate me even more, presenting me this Main Character that can't shut up for more than two minutws without some kind of witty otaku humor, or some reference to rpgs and how he must trigger the Emilia flags in order to enter her route or anything. While the first arc was concise and to the point, the second arc was slow and besides his slow descent into madness didn't really show any true sign of chara development. And, I'll be honest, the start of this third arc almost made me want to drop it because Subaru, during his return to the capital, shows this absolutely insane obsession with Emilia, to the point he doesn't care about anything else (Politics, History, Rules of conduct in this society, Following suggestions of, well, everyone and so on). I understand, this is clearly in fact the point of the show and yet I couldn't bear him because I realized I was seriously starting to root for his defeat. You should never root for the protagonist to fail his quest.

And then the last two episodes came.

I don't know what was it. Maybe the fact I care about some of those characters now that they aren't obsessed killing us. Maybe it's because I love our new over the top villain (He's damn evil. And he loves it). Maybe it's because I like how much this poor dude that has no chance in hell of amounting to anything is trying hard against every opposition. He doesn't deserve this shit and finally, damn finally I want to see him escape from this pit of despair. Bravo, Re:Zero, you actually managed to make me change my mind. I applaud you, because my head is as thick as a piece of steel.

This doesn't forgive the great amount of problem this series had so far, it's by no mean perfect. But damn is it fun to watch. More like this, please.

As for the way home, it didn't really surprise me. Subaru was a NEET/highschooler and he was said to be slowly turning into a delinquent before going in Re:Zero's world.

Now, I know even someone that doesn't really go outside and stuff would want to go home for family or something, but we don't know his backstory. In fact, we know so little, some of his actions might be explained by it.

Although, the way I see it. What is a guy who plays video games 24/24 7/7 's dream? Highly likely to be himself in a fantasy world, I'd say. Well, at the very least, pretty much anyone would be interested in that.

I don't know if what I said actually makes sense, I really just wrote that without thinking about how to place it haha.

the episode was epic, no one to argue....true it wasn't as amazing as episode 15.
It showed how the broken subaru deals with things now.
I mean look at him in arc 2 how he deals with other humans, he was a real normal funny MC (like arata from trinity seven or kotarou from rewrite).
Look at him now, he began became the most hated protagonist ever...
People might say that "you can't do better in his place" but then again why is he the hero of this story if he can't do anything? He is not a bitching MC (like riki from little busters or kazami from shakugan no shana)

The best episode so far just because at least Subaru is getting the humane treatment he deserves. He actually deserves to be treated worse but at least they tried. Now if only Rem will notice how dumb he is.
With this much whining maybe he's a 5th grader in a teenagers body. What kinds of manga was he reading, mangas that involves whining a lot solves the problem? Genre dumb.
"Why do I always realize it... when I've already lost it..." -Guts, Berserk

If you were sent to a fantasy world, would you really want to return to the real world?

Unless it's a terrible world, I would say nope.

I think many of us secretly want to be trapped in a fantasy world. Naturally, we don't want to become a farmer either :P We want to be surrounded by awesome characters, go on an epic adventure and fall in love ;)

If we can ignore the constant death (heheh...), he's living the life many of us secretly wish.

I would say no. No, absolutely not. Because the entirety of my being is anchored to this world. My family, my bonds, my knowledge. Realistically? I'd go insane and try to do everything in my power to return home.

It's nice to have some wish like "I'd love to live in this video game", but the truth is that this only works if we get to be the real powerful invincible hero, the superb wizard or in any case someone that "Gets the girl in the end", if you catch my drift. Nobody wants to be a random npc that spends all his life walking around his farm, waiting for heroes whom to give quest hooks.

A good episode, this show is amazing. There are only 2 reasons to hate it: - Emilia's naiveté or Sobaru's personality.
Sobaru could be classified as a good character but not an intelligent one.
Anastasia gave him a big hint to how to get those girls to help him.
He could kill himself.
Than spy a little bit on the green hair's relations and busniness. And tell her he want to save Emilia (no killing intent) and in return he could inform her about Anastasia spying on her and the fact that he knows she buys weapons.
Second, he go the big boobs girl and disobey her, telling her he wants her help but he's not as greedy as a pig. So either ways, he loses no pride.
Than he goes to Anastasia and give her information of the green hair after aquiring her help.
With those three he could kill Betelugeuse and his subordiantes.

Instead of that, he went alone and end up meeting a dragon ? I wish he's the one that rules them all (The one they've made a deal with)

It's kind of the same for "Zombie Apocalypse" scenario. I think many people wish there was one (that's rather... gruesome), but they certainly don't want to be that one who gets bitten right off the bat.

It's probably the sense of adventure and survival that may be thrilling for some.

We may wish for it, but we certainly would wish to return to normal if it was to happen :D Imagine your life without computers, Internet or even proper hygiene O_o

Of course I would, I would try to make sense of how I got there etc. Subaru instead behaves in an unrealistic way and seems like he doesn't give a fuck about his life before he came to the fantasy world.

Instead he just chooses some waifu's and gets attached to them...

It happens more often than not. A lot of the negative things people bring up are purely because of their own perspective and nothing to do with how is handling Subaru's character. Honestly, you're not going to change how they see Re:Zero. I personally agree with you, I think the author handled Subaru's character perfectly. In the end it all comes down to your personal tastes, people who dislike the show will continue to do so even if you refute their points. It's hardwired into them, and it's the same for us too.

Here is a great thread that shows while there people different with opinions of Subaru their also actually understand why he isn't suddenly calm right now instead of just complaining that he failed or something, and bashing the show because of it.

Ah, now this here was a great episode. I liked last episode well enough, but at times its "SUFFERING" felt excessive and somewhat indulgent. I do appreciate it more in hindsight, since seeing the hell Subaru just experienced helps contextualize his short-sighted recklessness and idiocy in this episode. Still, I think I prefer Re: Zero when it's in world-building and subtle character development mode, and this here had that in spades.

After the epic last shot of Subaru in the last episode, people were expecting a suddenly super-competent MC who would show his enemies whose boss, but instead we get the same guy with no concrete strategy tossed around by people who are far more politically savvy than himself. I love it, partly because of how it defies audience expectations, but mostly because it just makes the most sense. Subaru can become as angry as he wants, as revenge-driven as he likes, but the world doesn't revolve around him and isn't suddenly going to bend to his will, something he learns all too harshly here. I once again must commend this show for allowing such an unlikable character to occupy the MC slot for so long. I've been of the opinion that character likability is overrated for a while now, so this works fine for me. Subaru is still a compelling protagonist, and that's all that matter to me.

I loved the direction of the first few minutes, where we are deliberately not allowed to see Subaru's face in its entirety, his eyes hidden from view despite being the last thing the audience saw in the previous episode. That adds to the impact when we finally see the murderous glint in his eyes when he explodes in rage, and even then Subaru's face is hidden in shadows, accentuating the unsettling look in his eyes. Screaming at the person whom he is begging for help is self-evidently unsound negotiating, but Subaru isn't thinking of that, he's thinking of the hell he witnessed last episode. It's perfectly understandable, if not frustrating to watch. I've said this before, but seeing Subaru's ugly side in such vivid detail humanizes him a great deal, because we have also seen the best of him before and know he can be better.

Not that I think the narrative is particularly sympathetic to Subaru here, even after all of his suffering. It's been a while since I've seen a narrative this critical of its protagonist, because it seems pretty clear that the three candidates' criticisms of Subaru are meant to be taken as valid and not just antagonistic nonsense. Subaru himself only confirms their low opinion of him through his actions, words, and thoughts, over and over again. It's striking just how little the torture last episode changed Subaru. He's still the same guy suffering from the same crippling character flaws highlighted in episodes 12 and 13, just with some madness and a drive for vengeance sprinkled in to exacerbate them and further blind him to his own weaknesses. Subaru's main problem this episode is his inability to step outside of himself and of his narrow view of the world. He's often selfish, thinking of others strictly in terms of how they relate to his own desires and his own problems. That feeds into his honestly entitled nature, where he EXPECTS others to return what he sees as favors, what he sees as his own heroism. This ties into his problematic relationship with Emilia, where he idolized her and placed her on a pedestal while also convincing himself that no one is more loyal to her, than no one is more dedicated to her, and that no one is more capable of standing besides her than himself. That attitude eventually exploded in his face in episode 13, where it became clear that Subaru didn't actually SEE Emilia; he only saw the goddess he felt obligated to "save," whether she liked it or not, and worse, he believed he deserved to be thanked for his chivalry, even when it ignored the will of the person whom he claimed to love the most. Subaru probably should have realized his folly after what happened to the village, but all he really took away from that experience was that the Witch Cult needed to die, which I honestly can't blame him for. It's a perfectly understandable response.

What that means, though, is that the same character flaws that led to the fallout between Subaru and Emilia are still present. Subaru is still framing the entire situation here in terms of how it affects his feelings, in terms of how it relates to his own goals, without seriously considering the POV of others. After Priscilla humiliates him, he seethes in rage as he tells himself that she's forgotten he saved her life the first time they met. There's that entitled attitude again, but it's hard to judge Subaru too harshly simply because of how human a response it feels. It's short-sighted and symptomatic of the selfishness at the core of Subaru's character, but again, it's a feeling easy to understand. But again and again, Subaru's utter inability to consider other people's desires in his negotiations, instead of simply fixating on his own, drives the criticism of his character home. Highlighting this personality defect through Subaru's negotiations was clever, too, because it gave the writer a chance to deliver some good world-building and character development for the candidates while still commenting on Subaru's problems. This whole arc so far feels like a sustained attack on the White Knight syndrome, and I'm looking forward to how it resolves itself.

Subaru shows some hints of improvements toward's the end of the episode. He finally shifts his goal from killing the Witch Cultists to saving his friends, and finds a viable method of doing it by taking the advice he's been given and actually successfully negotiating with others. When he first gets the idea of buying oil in exchange for transportation, he initially addresses Otto by saying "I need to to talk," before changing that to "[I want to] ask for YOUR help." Subaru reframed his request so that it isn't about him ("I") but instead about Otto ("your"). This immediately makes the following conversation about Otto, not Subaru, which is how a negotiation should work. So yay progress.

Next episode, Subaru's encounter with Re: Zero's Moby Dick...

Excellent post. That's kind of even hand analysis I wanted to see more of here. You understand nuances of Subaru's problems.

Sorry, but this episode was complete garbage. Finally thought that he was gonna recover from the last episode and do something, aaaaaaand, nop, now he's become an even whinier little bit#h than before.

This anime has hands down, one of the most annoying and cringy male leads in history. I'm starting to think that the author of the manga is some freak that likes to see him suffer and squeal like a pig and that's where he gets his pleasure from.

If the next episode is just as trash, there's no doubt in my mind that this will be yet another Akame ga Kill mess...I can't even.

What do you mean "recover from last episode"? Did you by any chance miss the murderous intent in Subaru's eyes in the last seconds of episode 15? You expected all that rage to be gone this episode? Along with all his other flaws?

So sick of people bashing Subaru for acting like a flawed, broken teenager because that's exactly what he is

And please don't compare this to Akame ga Kill.

This is the only anime members post their own long essays, whatsmore most of them either have low post counts or a new account. Of course there is no problem with it but still, hilarious.

Everyone has their own preferences and personality, which come up with your own answer and justification. So there is no point to even argue with other members.

Most members seem to miss some important points when posting their own.
1) Are you using a third person view when writing? -you can see everything will of course criticize Subara's mistake, you are not in his shoes.
2) Why you said Subaru doesn't learn? -when all he can do is to ask someone for help in that limited time he has. He doesn't have powers to turn things around nor does he have any negotiation chips/information to bargain with other people from the start.
3) Subaru is desperate, which lead to different kind of emotions. His situation can indeed cause mental damage to him from the things he experienced. I doubt you can stay calm when you see your family die in front of you multiple times. (No offence)
4) Subaru is not a clever person, every success he has are all from 'trials and errors'. Whether you like it or nor, he did learnt from his mistake. Thats why he had come this far to episode 16.

1) Are you using a third person view when writing? -you can see everything will of course criticize Subara's mistake, you are not in his shoes.
I can't do it better, I most definitely can not win the fight normal human can't win, but I can at least do the most logical situation in the scenario and that is "fuck this shit, I am out" which any reasonable person would do. Or at least trying to act as shounen character. Try to find the way home, or at least out of danger, but this story is exercise in pointless as being Subaru is suffering and entire point of the story is for him to die screaming.
2) Why you said Subaru doesn't learn? -when all he can do is to ask someone for help in that limited time he has. He doesn't have powers to turn things around nor does he have any negotiation chips/information to bargain with other people from the start.
He theoretically can, but it would be progressively more complicated, as people who are able to help are huge dicks, making every action just exercise in being pointless. Only person in the entire story that isn't crazy, dick or both is Reinhart. Reinhart is only person who is so far consistently portrayed as good and willing to help people in need is conveniently removed from the story again - because he will either resolve the situation, making Subaru less suffer, in which case in undesired outcome (being Subaru is suffering, with Subaru escaping danger show loses entire basic premise). Or will be portrayed as huge dick as well, which destroys the last good character.
3) Subaru is desperate, which lead to different kind of emotions. His situation can indeed cause mental damage to him from the things he experienced. I doubt you can stay calm when you see your family die in front of you multiple times. (No offence)
His family didn't die. He doesn't give a fuck about his family and his family isn't even mentioned in the story. Sure, he saw people die, which must be traumatising for anyone, that's without a doubt, but this story basically gives Subaru any mental state as plot required, making him changing personalities and gaining/removing trauma on the spot. So I can't feel for him at all.
4) Subaru is not a clever person, every success he has are all from 'trials and errors'. Whether you like it or nor, he did learnt from his mistake. Thats why he had come this far to episode 16.
He is a complete idiot, lack any common sense and is completely unsympathetic. So far he merely made everything worse.

People need to start looking at it from a different perspective. In the anime, we see the candidates as these 'cute' looking characters whom Subaru can 'easily' talk to. But actually, putting into the context of the 'real world' he's talking to politicians here and people who are potentially the next ruler of the kingdom. I think what some people don't get, and even Subaru himself, is this very fact. They are not just these easy going people you think they are. They are cheeky and frankly quite manipulative as we have seen this episode. I don't blame him though. He obviously can't think straight after what he has gone through. He also has the time constraint of 3 days so the stress is real...

The cute ones are always dangerous, he should know that. :) Pity they never explained if he was a huge loser in school or not though, it could give a lot of background on him. He has zero actually character development from his real life on purpose though..the point of the whole anime heh. I guess his past life's knowledge is useless.

Ok. I usually stay out of the discussions but I gotta weigh in on this one and maybe the past few episodes.

Everyone's shoveling shit on Subaru why?

Dude has done a helluva job keeping his shit together and trying. Of course after dying more than a few times in gruesome and heartbreaking ways and seeing shit he can't unsee, he's messed up and starting to crack.

Yeah, his outbursts at the ceremony weren't smart but I don't blame him either, same in seeking help from the other candidates. Fuck negotiations, lives were at stake. That shit with Priscilla too, he was gonna say fuck it but he clearly thought of Emilia and changed his mind. For her.

But the series keeps trying to twist his intentions and make him seem like a raving fool. Yet he still manages to improvise and come up with ways to save people. People saying he's a dumb MC and he deserved the kick and the other stuff just has me like O.O Every mc isn't a pull-fake-heroics-out-of-their-ass cool fucker. He's a regular dude way in over hia head, fails, keeps trying, eats shit, keeps trying. Fucks up understandably. The fuck do you guys expect? Everyone thinks they're a critic

And did you not see what this episode is all about? Did you even watch it? Or is it maybe that you are not mature enough to understand it...

I don't see why it has to be one or the other.

Yes I get people like this series because its kind of a psychological case study about Subaru's descent into madness. Yeah...okay...whatever. Its the same crowd that overrates Evangelion because "top psychologists are gonna be studying this 20 years from now bruh". They're not going to, but okay.

No I'm not asking Subaru to be a self-insert harem protagonist. Jesus Christ. Can people even handle criticism? We're asking him to be a competent main character and not be crapped on by this author every god damn week. And yeah, its pretty evident that the author enjoys watching him suffer, thats why people fallback to the torture porn thing. I don't really blame them.

I don't really even expect a good ending at this point. It will probably be bleh at the rate this is going.

I'm seriously hate this treatment on poor Subaru. Rem is still best girl.

So is that the whale from like 2 episodes ago? The one that would kill everyone if they encountered it? And is that other carriage supposed to be the whale? Or did his existence just dissipate from reality?
All hail the Almighty Funyarinpa!... Wait, what do you mean you don't know what it is?! How DARE you! SAY you're sorry!!! APOLOGIZE TO THE FUNYARINPA!

Glad I didn't (or couldn't) watch this as it came available, I would've been pretty disappointed. This episode hardly grabbed my attention though I sure it had a place in the story telling. Might skip the next week entirely or just wait till it finishes airing.

Here's the thing...why do you assume Subaru is descending into madness? What made you think Subaru doesn't have issues since episode 1? Emilia's (heck, she also has no friends) kindness gave false sense of confidence on his actual influence on people. His same reckless behaviour (not to mention the questionable motive for this behaviour) that ended well by chance in the first arc started to backfire in later. If anything the first arc is similar to Subaru's 'angry' face of end of ep 15 - it is intentionally misleading viewer's expectations - that the protagonist that busts his guts in his own ways will overcome all. What the author's being trying to tell you, now not so subtly is Subaru needs to change his behaviour or it won' get better.

It's also amusing to see the contrast of treatment between Subaru and Rem by viewers. Subaru has been exposed as the 'LN type protagonist that doesn't work in this world' and hated on yet Rem being your most typical LN female in the series gets plenty of likes.

Meh. Objectively, its the same shit at this point. I know nothing of the web novel or LN, but I have no doubt that the ending to this will be a mess much like Evangelion. And then the hipsters will come out of the woodworks and praise it to no end. Muh deep psychology. Nah just contrived bullshit.

Also the story is fiction. You can write Subaru to be anything you want. No he doesn't have to be a cool Gary Stu. He can at least be competent in other areas like diplomacy or persuasion. But nah, just going to waste our time with even more fuck ups and now we're going down another Dead End. Entertainment! Realism!

It is mostly me just going off of what people are analyzing about this show in another thread. But I'm also assuming that this is the witch's primary objective. To twist his mind for some reason. Again, I can be completely wrong about that. But I can clearly see Subaru deteriorating with each passing episode ever since Emilia abandoned him.

Of course I would, I would try to make sense of how I got there etc. Subaru instead behaves in an unrealistic way and seems like he doesn't give a fuck about his life before he came to the fantasy world.

Instead he just chooses some waifu's and gets attached to them...

But might not want to go back to his pre-fantasy world, let alone care about it.

And I'm not too sure as to why you think he's chasing waifu's. The only girl he's after is Emilia.... I think you've found characters that you like and assume Subaru does the same. :x

I'm very sorry this is not a utopic world where Subaru can get what he wanted because he's the MC of a fantasy world.
Priscilla, Crusch, and Anastasia are not sociopaths.
Crusch is actually smart here. This is the problem of Subaru. First of all, he assumes that Crusch trusts him. How can Crusch trust him when Subaru says he knows that the cult will attack in three days when supposedly only the cult has that access of that knowledge? Maybe Subaru is either lying or he is the part of the cult. Subaru may betray her. Second, Emilia is in the village. Helping Emilia means saying that Emilia is incompetent in saving the village where she is in. Subaru does not want it. Third, he claims to be Emilia's knight and wants her to win the selection. But he sold Emilia's right in the selection to Crusch. Where's the loyalty here buddy? If Subaru has no loyalty to Emilia, how much more can he be trusted by Crusch?
Even the kindest person on the fantasy world Emilia cannot trust him. Why would Crusch? Subaru is actually very lucky to have Rem beside him that has unwavering trust in him, despite all his actions.
Priscilla is disgusted by Subaru since she sensed disgusting greed within Subaru. Sacrificing everything to get what Subaru wants is extreme greed.
Only Anastasia is deceptive here, and she explains her case for being one. And their society seems to run in a medieval secular way that does not give a damn on helping others without benefit, not modern way where you can appeal to humanity.
But my question is, did the dragon pendant ever thought about the good of the people by nominating those bunch of lass? no... it seems to me that fantasy world is a fucked up place... good bye disney...
We dunno. But Crusch and Anastasia seem to be competent, and Emilia and Felt are revolutionaries. I dunno about Priscilla, but the other four are nice selections IMO.
Emilia wants race equality. That's quite a revolutionary idea to raise on that racist society.
Felt wants to destroy the current powers of the society. The big people really hate it.
Crusch is good in negotiations. It could be useful in running the country.
Anastasia's competence is demonstrated on how she handles Subaru.
L-Ryoshi explains here nicely
Next, I have to say that anyone who thinks that the other candidates' rejections were cruel and unjust, you guys clearly have your "Subaru-is-love" goggles on. Think about it for a second just what he is asking/demanding/requesting of them.
He wants them to:
- Enter another priestess candidates' (Emilia) domain
- Intervene and help said candidate to defend her domain against infamously dangerous and potentially life threatening "terrorists"
- Risk their lives and the lives of their own supporters/soldiers/subjects in the process of saving this other candidates supporters/soldiers/subjects.
- Do all of the above for absolutely no charge.

That would make Subaru more suspicious. But if Subaru can prove it, it may help. The problem is if the knowledge of Anastasia spying Crusch is enough to convince Crusch.
Second, he go the big boobs girl and disobey her, telling her he wants her help but he's not as greedy as a pig. So either ways, he loses no pride.
We don't know if it can actually convince Priscilla.
Than he goes to Anastasia and give her information of the green hair after aquiring her help.
With those three he could kill Betelugeuse and his subordiantes.
The info Subaru will give is insignificant compared to the risks that the three might get. It's too risky. It's like going to an ISIS site with a bunch of soldiers from different countries that are really enemies with each other in exchange for a cheap underground info and nothing else to gain.

I quickly gave up on reading all of the pages of this thread because people seemed to be quoting the same post over and over, so sorry if this post isn't consistent with the flow of this thread.

I can't seem to get annoyed by Subaru's actions after the fight with Emilia. There are other anime, manga, and light novels where characters have to constantly watch people who are important to them die repeatedly over multiple timelines. It's not unreasonable to become unstable, obsessive to correct what went wrong, and to become warped enduring the same suffering again and again. Whereas other characters may find salvation in being able to tell their companions of their situation and obtain support (including emotional support), Subaru is completely restricted and can't tell people of his ability. His ability led him to become jealous and obsessive, and that obsession caused misunderstandings. The misunderstandings just continue to pile up because he is unable to explain himself properly, and so he became desperate, but that desperation didn't earn him any sympathy and just backfired on him. And so he's currently stuck in a cycle of mistrust, anger, suffering, despair, death, then returning.

At this point, there's really no reason to be angry at the other characters for treating Subaru so poorly, they can only interact with him based on the impression he initially presented and his current attitude. Subaru was at fault for letting his obsession spiral out of control. Negotiations just aren't going to work because both sides can't communicate on the same level. They see his frenzied state and think they know what he's thinking, but they don't know anything. This is why there needs to be a change of pace; an introduction of a new factor (the whale?) that will allow Subaru to redeem himself. He needs to somehow prove to everyone his sincerity with actions, just as he did with Rem--an opportunity to fix himself and to be able to talk properly.

Even though I loved the episode, I am soooooo pissed off. It just...ugh

Look, I get it, I get why my man subaru is fucking up and how he looks in the eyes of other people. Hell I even like it because he is not just flawed, he is dynamically flawed. Just when he begins to fix his mistakes, reality bitch slaps him hard for it and he gains new issues to deal with. So I am with him 100% when he does the reckless and stupid things he do.

I get why the women treat him the way they do and understand what they see when he acts. Doesn't mean I can accept it, I just can't. It's just not fair. It's one thing to be an unsung hero, but to be treated like he does on top of his trauma from his power, no he is not a lucky man but the most unfortunate bastard mc I have ever seen. He wears the cursed version of the mc plot armor and man it's bad.

But what really angers me, angers me to the point I am just numb. Is the fact that some characters see something on him, and don't say shit about it at all. They just go "oh gee, that witch smell and miasma is looking pretty bad. Better not say anything about it." Then have the nerve to stand there and look at him like he is crazy instead of putting two and two together. ughhhhhh.

That said, fuck waiting for more episodes, time to find the LN

You know, your comment makes you sound like a sheltered 12-year-old. Do you know how the world actually works? Priscilla aside (she is no doubt eccentric, but she operates on completely different standards than the norm), the other two candidates all behaved quite rationally and logically.

Think about it, Subaru asks Crusch, a political opponent for a small military force to thwart an attack that he has no way of proving will even take place. Unless Crusch is to believe Subaru has prophetic powers, why would she agree to help him? Would you believe a seeming madman who tells you that the Apocalypse is imminent? Didn't think so.

As for Anastasia, she's a merchant behaving like a merchant. Need I say more?

People who keep saying Subaru should suicide though should realize that suicide isn't easy at all for Subaru. So far, we have only seen him kill himself once, and remember how much determination that took? It's really a last resort that he won't take until he's exhausted every last option, or when his burning passion to keep those he loves alive temporarily overwhelms his fear of death.

I think only someone who has actually had a near-death experience would truly understand just how scary the idea of dying is to Subaru. Not to mention that, from Subaru's point of view, there's really no way to know whether or not the next death will be his last.

The point I'm trying to make is, let's not talk about suiciding so casually if we don't know just how heavy a burden it is to Subaru mentally.

Another great episode, many have commented on it but it speaks to the care White Fox puts into this series that we get so many episodes without the OP. This episode felt downright desperate. At first it seemed so clear that Subaru was going to formulate a plan of attack and conquer. But after that nail biting scene with Crusch goes South, it throws a series of plot twists at us for why various people who would help Subaru can't. It made this episode feel so claustrophobic, like each failure was the world closing in on Subaru.

I liked that we got a meaty scene with Anastasia too. She's been the least explored candidate so far, and learning a little about her and her people was a welcome introduction. Plus it was just yet another great scene of Subaru losing in a negotiation. The revelation that Anastasia and her crew were really playing him was a galling one, I don't know how much more of a beating his ego can take. It felt especially harsh with the tongue lashing he got, the bodyguards showing him up and because she felt so much like the last chance that might work out.

If there was one part of the episode I did not like it was fan girl who's name I have forgotten. I enjoyed Al her bodyguard tossing out Subaru in a friendly way. But his negotiations with her were honestly cringe worthily fetishy with the whole lick my foot thing. And I don't think it deepened her character in any way. I did really like the small touch though that Subaru kept calming down so he wouldn't be nasty to Rem. That was a nice touch we all love Rem, no one wants to see her feelings hurt.

The ending of the episode was a little puzzling, but I'm excited to see where it goes. Also I'm glad they lampshaded it but, no way does his phone still work.
