also, Pachelbel was the original one hit wonder. to consider him as a great composer is laughable.

A one hit wonder? Not in my personal opinion. He may not be as critically acclaimed as many of the others on that list, but he has many compositions I like including all of his fantasias. Regardless, that wasn't the list of the most famous artists of all time, but rather MY personal favorites. Whether or not you consider him a great composer is irrelevant.

Prayermad said:

I don't know what you are trying to achieve by namedropping a batch of the most famous composers of all time, but at least your list has Duke Ellington & Basie

I'm not trying to "achieve" anything. If you read what I said prior to posting those artists, you would know that I was only trying to show my favorite musicians/composers in each particular genre.
All the mods fucking blow on this website except Kaiserpingvin, Cloudy-Sky, Baman and aero. PM me if you're actually good and I left you out.

Categorizing music can be convenient in some cases, but I most often think it's rather unnecessary. If I had to choose my favorite genres I guess it would be Melodic Death Metal, Thrash Metal and Pop/Rock, pretty closely followed by Black Metal. But I like stuff from lots of genres.

It's convenient in most cases because people know approximately what to expect when they buy download something.

It's the shitty bands that ruin the purpose with creating their own genres just so that they may seem more unique.

The genre i like determines on my mood or the time of day usually. I try and expand my genre list so i can find who i like in every genre and subgenre but it gets tiring lol I think I like a little bit of everything though, i dont think ive seen a single genre listed so far in here i havent heard yet.

Okay do you people think pop should even count as a genre? I mean it means its just a watered down version of another genre to make it more appealing to a mass audience rather than devoted music lovers.

Another thing is screemo isnt a real genre name, its no different from post-hardcore in sound.

Emo isnt even its real genre, there was a real emo genre i heard but whats called emo today isnt anything like that genre.

Could you consider math-rock a cousin of metal? They both use complex guitar playing

goddamn i hate when people say that. 'a little bit of everything' is fine, but EVERYTHING? come on.. whens the last time you listened to orchestrated avant-electro-tango with a screamo vocalist?

i guess this 'everything' is, like, metal/pop/rap/country to some people

haha, wow.

you know, even if that was true, it just means you have no personality of your own, basically a dull thought process based on nothing but obvious influences.

of course, though, what you're saying isn't true. you won't listen to anything and most likely like it. you're just saying that because you haven't listening to anything.

I know this is a difficult concept for someone lacking substance to understand.

Come on man, there is SOME good hip-hop. The genre as a whole is pretty weak because of faggots like Lill Wayne, but there are some great and innovative artists out there. Mainstream ones like Eminem and Lupe Fiasco(sometimes) are great at squeezing some life out of a dying genre.

I know Immortal technique is a tad overrated, but imo he's still alot better than most chart-topping rappers.

There's other great rappers too. Canibus, Brother Ali and Demonic to name a few.

In conclusion, Lil Wayne is a faggot.

right.

so since that particular 1/500th of your music folder just happens to contain garbage, the rest would just happen to not contain garbage.

makes sense. and garbage aside, mentioning 'everything' the way you did (do) is just ignorant

the ironic thing about the whole "UNDAGROUNDZ HIPHOP R TAH BEST" attitude is that people tend to point towards artists that arent any better than the mainstream ones.

besides, wu-tang are practically mainstream, no?

No, the genre is not weak at all, and I didn't say it was. I said Immortal Technique is the last name you should drop when you're trying to defend hip-hop.
The only people who ever say a genre is dying (with the exception of obvious ones that do not age well) are the people who are not well-informed. There is more to hip-hop than the shit on the surface like Lil Wayne and there is more to hip-hop than the shit in the so-called "underground" like Immortal Technique (not actually underground at all).

But yes, I agree with you. Lil Wayne is a faggot.

idk why you're talking shit about Lil Wayne while saying artists like Eminem are keeping hip-hop alive tho
lol?

I guess saying hippy-hop is dead is a bit rash, but compared to 10+ years ago it isn't even a shadow of what it used to be (in terms of chart toppers).

As for Eminem, I'm not saying he's keeping the genre alive, no. I'm saying he's one of the few mainstream artists who makes music which still has elements of innovation. Even though he is way past his peak. But whatever sells records, eh?

And you're right, too many people do use Immortal to protect hip-hop.

Also, Lil Wayne is a faggot.
