No.
Isayama Hajime should be awarded The Manga with The Highest Inconsistencies of Characters' Appearances.
He keeps performing multiple plastic surgeries on those Shingeki No Kyojin characters in a SINGLE chapter.
Yes, I've read up to the latest chapter of Shingeki No Kyojin manga.
Forced myself to read through the kidsketching chapters after the anime's ended. At least from now on, I only have to go through the hell once a month.
Patiently awaiting SNK TV/movie/OVA anime-sequel.
The 2015 SNK live-action movie would probably suck.

It's comparable to NHK, hence me having just made a recommendation for the two, but until there's a totally serious segment dealing with the problems the heroine faces and how difficult it is to overcome them, it's never gonna be on the same page. NHK blended hilarious failure with realistic life struggles. Watashi's character design, voice acting and direction suggest it's only interested in poking fun. Time will tell, I guess...

PS: Stop labeling everything as slice-of-life. Something so... anime in its OTT nature can't be sliced up neatly as a serving of everyday life. Thx.
PS2: Gonzo made some of the best anime, as well as some of the worst. 2/10 of my favourites ain't a bad ratio. Stop hating on those it's considered cool to hate 'cause it's easy. Thx again.
PS3: Bai.

Maybe the title of this thread is kind of confusing since there are many, many
slice-of-life anime series, and there are lots of sub-genres. Anyways, we can
compare the characteristics of the main characters of the two series:

Series title: Watamote
Main character: Tomoko Kuroki
Her problem: "Mojo" or "unpopular girl"
Definition: Although the manga and anime do it a bit differently, a "mojo" is
typically defined in Japan to be a woman:

- Who has never dated a boy
- Who has never even been confessed to by a boy
- Is perceived by herself to be unpopular
- Is perceived by others to be unpopular

Series title: Welcome to the NHK
Main character: Tatsuhiro Satō
His problem: Hikikomori
Definition: There is actually a clinical definition of a "hikikomori" used by
pschiatrists in Japan:

1) spending most of the day and nearly every day confined to home,
2) marked and persistent avoidance of social situations,
3) symptoms interfering significantly with the person’s normal routine, occupational
. . (or academic) functioning, or social activities or relationships,
4) perceiving the withdrawal as ego-syntonic,
5) duration at least six months
6) no other mental disorder that accounts for the social withdrawal and avoidance.

Details: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hikikomori
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Welcome_to_the_N.H.K.

So, Watamote and NHK are two different anime series about two different people
with two quite different problems. I think that they are both good and it looks
difficult to say which is better.

Even better? I'd say it makes it look like shit. Same with Watamote

One thing Watamote, Lucky Star and NHK have in common are comedy. And Lucky Star has the worst

IDK if you can even call Lucky Star slice of life, as no life or plot is going on.

Anyways, Watamote is really over rated.

Its a great show thats being massively blown out of proportion because social invalids on MAL can relate to it.

The first episode when she threatened to kill herself and the second episode when she cried because her best friend had a boyfriend werent funny to me.

Just saying.

However, pooping outside bathrooms is awesome. So IDK.

NHK is more serious.

Watamote I feel it like a funny version of a problem with some that still hides a truth about people like Tomoko.

Isnt watamote just a comedy with dark jokes? I dont know how you can compare that to a show like NHK which takes a delve into some pretty heavy psychological problems in a serious light, like even NHK's sense of humor seems like its in a different style cause almost all of the jokes made in NHK seemed to lead into something much more serious later on.

Liking one more than another is purely subjective but comparing those 2 specifically really seems uncalled for and doesnt make much sense

^ Watamote is an episodic gag anime/manga with black comedy. NHK is supposed to be a serious social commentary about a real life issue it also has black comedy but it's not episodic or a gag anime.

I couldn't last more than half of an episode. And I read the manga. So nope.

And as other people have pointed it out, they're not comparable because of the different genre they belong (and I don't mean SoL).

My argument: poor animation (due to budget I guess), the music was terrible (not the OP nor the ED).

Being "antisocial" is not a comparison. Their case are completely different, other users have already pointed it out.

ps. NHK manga was different than anime

I'm aware of that. If you've read my list you'd already know I watched the NHK anime and I read both the novel and the manga.

Sure they are little different but saying 'completely' different is 'no no'. Let's take okanagan's post:

Watamote:
1) She spends lots of time in home, from episode 2:

2) In the episode 1 she is avoiding people

3) The fragment from 2)
5) read spoiler from 1)

NHK:
I don't think he had girlfriend or have been confessed
Popularity-> more or less he perceive it.

ps. I'm not psychiatrist, psychologist or something like this but I can take some definition from wikipedia(or just from my head but It was long time ago when I have been reading about that stuffs) and I can show you they have symptoms of the same disease.

Wannabiteme:

-Satou
It's not like he avoided people when he was in high school, he had his clique (Hitomi and Yamazaki) and they were very close to each other. It wasn't a healthy relationship, they all had issues. He has become a shut-in when he became a university student and started living alone. Also, the novel is based on the author's actual experiences as a hikikomori.
-Tomoko on the other hand had her clique in middle school and as I can see in the spin-off manga, they
She doesn't outright avoid school and she isn't bullied, she's only oblivious to how to socialize and being an elitist jerk. Her problem is more close to the so-called sophomore syndrome (chuunibyou)
than her being a hikikomori (though she has the potential). Her adventures remind me more of Dick Dastardly than of Satou

I'm not a psychologist either, I only studied it a bit at university and I forgot most of it :(

It's good that you see similarities.

sophomore syndrome (chuunibyou)

Chuunibyou demo Koi ga Shitai!<- does this anime count for that "term"?
Sorry but this term, I think, is so badly translated to my language that it means LOTS of things
Is this some kind of withdrawal from society because of unusual hobby?

ps. Have I said that I'm at the begining of the manga/anime of Watamote? :D

ps2. Dick? What's that?

-Dick Dastardly from Wacky Races, an old Hanna-Barbera cartoon. He was a villain protagonist who in every episode tried to cheat his way through but failed and always came last on the race. Also the series was kinda repetitive.
-Chuunibyou is a term that existed before that anime (which comes from a novel if I'm not mistaken). I haven't seen the anime myself I admit, but I googled the term: a teenager with full of delusions about how the world works, tries to imitate what he/she perceives as an adult thing to do, sometimes even goes as far as thinking he/she has superpowers (I had such period myself). In short, they think they're special and better than the others. Well, how Tomoko sees other girls as "bitches and whores" - even about her supposed-to-be friend Yuu - and in almost every chapter she has a new (and often wrong and embarrassing) idea about how people would start talking to her, let's just say, she has such traits.

It is, a SoL drama. It has some added elements that wasn't in the novel - like an online JRPG, an MLM scam
- and they didn't include Satou's usage of drugs (guess that wouldn't have been TV-friendly). The manga is a quite different animal, they included Satou's parents, Misaki is a more twisted character
