THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.
----------------------------------------
Finally!

The action scenes were intense but not so grandious like in the manga,...
I can somehow manage to get used to Kuro's voice...

Is it only my imagination or are the proportions in some scenes somehow wrong?!

It is still living up to my expectations even if some parts has been added to the manga's story.

I didn't watch all of it, since I'd rather wait for it to be subbed, but I pretty much agree with everything you've said. Some things look different and and some things are different... thats to be expected though. Thats not how I imagined Kuro's voice... it's kinda annoying and too much like the norm for female anime characters, but I'll probably get used to it. I thought the same thing about Neliel's voice in Bleach first time I heard it now I don't mind her voice at all.

One thing that really stood out was Kuro's first fight. I loved it when the camera panned around her like three times when she was fighting the big guy. And holy shit, what followed after that instantly reminded me of Dragon Ball Z. They got Kuro's speed and punches spot on.

Overall, pretty good and it does live up to my expectations. I hope they don't go and ruin the story later on though.

Wow, very pleasantly surprised by this episode.
The fight scene was amazing, as was the music playing during it.

Loved this scene too:

Wow, I liked it!! it was very good, Kuro's fight, Mayu's death.
I didn't like that Keita is in high school, and the guy who is at the end of the chapter.
The music is very good, as well as the animation.
I hope sunrise don't change too much the plot.

The end and the preview show that there's going to be a lot of changes in the plot, since it looks like most of it will be original, I'm hoping for 13 episodes, but since it looks like it's a pretty big project with the international simultaneous release and all, the number might turn out to be around 26.

Yes the fight scene was awesome. Overall I enjoyed the episode...the music catches the mood, the b-e-a-utiful animation that's always expected from Sunrise, and Daisuke Namikawa owns XD Although for some reason I felt that it was lacking in some ways. I have yet to read the manga (and I probably won't, I'm much more content watching this) but I was expecting for the event that forms the bond between Keita and Kuro to happen. It seemed Kuro just kind of showed up, got a free ramen bowl out of Keita, and kicked some random thug's arse. While that's all fine and dandy, a series of this calibur shouldn't be lollygaging around. I may be getting ahead of myself here, but it just felt as if something was missing...like there was no explaination behind anything that was happening. I can't seem to put my finger on it.

I'll definitely be continuing this, I was just expecting something more than what was given.

Very good. Kind of weird that we have all seen episode 1 and it still says not yet aired. I just watched the subbed version, very good. I hope I won't have to watch a dubbed version of this.

I didn't like chara design. Fight scene was cool - brutal street style. Guy with baseball bat kinda reminds Guts from Berserk ^^

Pro's: Set's the bar for brutal in 2009. People are finally taking clues from actual youth when designing main characters.

Con's: The shading is the only thing making it look better than Noir(does not apply to the fight scene). The premise of the plot will be extremely annoying for me, I have this gut feeling for some reason.

With the exception of the direction and the fight scenes, this was terrible. The show looks terribly dated, mediocre voice acting, and a pretty lackluster set up. It was a little surprising.

I don't have a clue what just happened but one thing's for sure: that was one hell of a fighting scene.
Mayu going down was inevitable after what she said, but still..it could have been a bit more.. subtle? Last time I saw a support character and realized he/she will die a very brutal death within the next 15 seconds was with Elfen Lied. I hate that feeling.

I'll stick around anyway, but this might not be my box of crackers.

btw, what's with the dog? Like it was put there just to be sure you'll go wtf

Wow, I just watched all of it subbed and I didn't expect for things to be that different! It's quite simply not the manga at all. It fails as an adaption. Half of the episode is original material, what does happen in the manga is shown entirely out of order, Keita is a bitch in the manga but he's a bloody waste in the anime, his character has been totally ruined. Kuro's main line "I'm going to kill my brother" was poorly executed as well. The whole episode also moved way too fast and how are Kuro and Keita suppost to form a contract now his arm didn't even get ripped off?

The episode is alright for what it is, but as an adaption it's a failure. I'm really disappointed that it's so different from the manga.

well that was incredibly dull. all the shock value material could be seen from a mile away that it just lost any effect by the time in happened.

as for the fight scene, it was okay, albeit a little reminiscent from the 2-d beat-em-ups back in the day. the fight scene got old really quick after Kuro performed that juggling combo on that guy who looked like a hobo. =/

Epic battle..epic combo. I tried to count the combo, it was like 34 hits more or less. Now this is a good series to watch for the upcoming season.

Bad-ass + energetic + flames = epic

Which group will take this series?

Ugh, my expectations have been smashed. If this doesn't redeem itself within three more episodes, I'm just gonna switch to the manhwa. Anyone know if someone's going to sub the Korean version?

I was not impressed with the anime, I had really high expectation for it but after watching the first episode I was disappointed.

I wasn't excepting it to be the exact same at the manga but they changed some major events that happened in the manga (Keita's job as a game designer, how Kuro and Keita made a contract, Keita being in high school, Kuro's fighting style wasn't boxing it looked more like kick boxing to me....)

BTW who is that guy with the glasses towards the end of the episode?

The animation was okay I thought it would have been better. Kuro's expressions when she is surprised or tries to act cute look really poorly done. The fight scenes and backround animation was more to my expections.

I'll continue to watch it b/c I love the manga. I just hope it gets better.

Look, Noir is a great thing, but you gotta' admit that it isn't exactly drawn too well(Mirielle's absolutely gorgeous character design is an exception). I'd actually say it's dated for something from 2001. And if there was no shading in Black God, it would look about the same as Noir. I find this ridiculous. For Christ's sake, it's freakin' 2009!

As an adaptation Kuro Kami has failed. I won't knock it for that though, as many great anime has differed from the original source, but even as a stand alone production, Kuro Kami is amazingly lack luster.

Much of the original charm of the original characters have been lost, and replaced with 2-d cookie cutter popouts. Kuro's voice is extremely grating, and hard to get used to. Her overall character design has lost much of the uniqueness of the original manga. And the plot has just seemed to lose its edge and style that was present in the manga.

The only real pro of the episode was the fight scene, which was actually quite well done, but that shouldn't be the ONLY positive. Everything else, including direction, overall vision, and art, is all sub standard.

Sunrise has taken this show in a direction it simply shouldn't have gone. Since I've only seen one episode I'll give still give the show a shot, but if the anime continues to stray from the manga, I may be inclined to drop it. If Sunrise decides to make Kuro Kami as a stand alone show, I hope the original material will be far better in subsequent episodes.

I had high hopes because Sunrise adapted Gintama fabulously well, and was hoping Kuro Kami would follow suit, I can't help but complain about the overall direction Sunrise is taking some of their recent shows. At often times it feels like Sunrise is losing a grip on good creative direction. I would have preferred if Production I.G., Bones, Madhouse, hell, even J.C. Staff to have undertaken this project. At least J.C. staff is relatively accurate to the original source in their manga->anime translation these days.

But enough of me knocking Sunrise. As it stands Kuro Kami is decent, acceptable, and passable. Not amazing, but I wasn't expecting it to be. At least now, Korean manhwa has somewhat of a spotlight, and perhaps productions of higher quality will be produced in years to come.

I Liked it! The start was boring but once Kuro & her dog came. It was fun!
The music and the fight where awsome!

But some things did seem a litle to random. But that's probably cuz i haven't read the manga...

I like it has a concept (well, I haven't read the manga).
But I hate bloody scenes, I am absolutely antagonistic to Elfen Lied, so I really hope, this show will be much more than bloody deaths here and there.
Kuro was fun, but I felt the character lacked originality.

and .. yeah have to be used with the kuro's voice (and thought mayu's voice was a bit strange too)

But it was kind of sad when the little girl ran over the road, but then the truck came and... ;;_____;;
