THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.
----------------------------------------

Great episode. The fight was nice, thought my favorite character ended up dying and I completely went "WTF!!?" when the enemy mecha revived after having lost it's pilots. Seems this masterminds really did a job fitting to the name... and all the greed that led to the creation of the program was in their plans. I'm getting a bit annoyed that we still know little about them though -.-
Still, I thought the "completed" program appeared a little out of the blue...
Seems were in for a little more background story next episode... but I want answers...

Yeah, that was indeed surprising. This time I can't find a connection between the Pilot and the Enemy Mecha, it just looked a little more like a Sci-Fi Robot from Outta Space. Maybe because Kanji's mother was a scientist to the core.

We still got 3 episodes to go, and I'm sure we'll get our answers. I hope that at least Kana makes it through somehow.

As much as I hate Ushiro it doesn't look like he's going to become a total asshole by sacrificing his sister. If he can manage to protect her somehow it will probably be his only redeeming act in my eyes. I'm not sure how well Dung Beetle will react to this though. He's been manipulating things a lot so far so I won't be surprised if he still pulls Kana into the battlefield even if Ushiro tries to send her far away.

If all the masterminds wanted was the energy from the different Earths, setting up these grandiose robot fighting matchups is one hell of a roundabout way to get it. Considering they could obliterate a planet and create these giant robots, they obviously have a greater technological edge. An edge in which they could easily use it to take the energy they want by force. Going through this all and watching countless people getting wiped out leads me to believe they must enjoy watching the suffering and be as sadistic as Dung Beetle.

...even a saint needs a soldier to do the dirty work.

Great episode; shame to see Kanji go though, I didn't care for him much at the beginning but his character grew on me as time went on so it's unfortunate to see that we wasn't going to be the last pilot after all.

Still so much more there is to do and only three episodes left. I really wish they kind of went into Kanji's back story more, sure we grasped that he didn't like his mother very much but we didn't see what happened with his dad or any past he might have had with his mother. I hope that a states side manga release happens soon.

I kind of feel like the whole idea with sucking up earth's energy and the Zearth Program of whatever it was called wasn't really presented that well.

Small stumble for the anime, decent episode nontheless.

So they are definitely human?
Anyway it can't be just the energy because they obliterate other universes. Why obliterate them and not take their energy?
I just can't understand how could anyone have the power to destroy a whole universe in a parallel dimension like we saw. Someone having such power is no different than God. We saw that time that not only the earth was destroyed but all the stars and planets. It's absolutely crazy.
Except if it was just a visual trick.

I'm also wondering something about Dung Beetle and his sister. They have been doing this for quite some years. Does that mean that they always win? I assume the other groups have their own version of Dung Beetle. What happens to Dung Beetle if they lose? Would he just go to some other world and some other robot?

So some of the imagery in the OP now makes sense, specifically the beginning with the marks coming out of Earth.

And in the ED, I just noticed that you can't see one of Kokopeli's hands. He's probably holding somebody else's hand from his own Earth....

I hope that Kana never contracts.

Didn't Dung Beetle's sister said that sometimes they lose fights, received new robot and go further...

Every last bit of the OP was pulled from the episodes... the OP has no unique content in it. Everything you see in the OP, you also see in the episodes at some point.

Yeah I agree, it felt like they came up with everything on the spot. None of it really made sense and it seemed too out of place.
Some parts of this post may be exaggerated.

Oh wow that sure went out of hand! That robot was just new but with the hack in place and all of the energy sucked out into the other worlds robot things sure got out of hand! I really wonder what will happen in the coming 3 episodes!

Agreed, that part makes no sense at all. Apparently they can destroy an entire universe and yet somehow the life energy of a single planet is important to them? One can't even fathom how many orders of magnitude of a difference in energy that is. A single planet should mean nothing to them.

Also the part where the enemy robot drains all the energy from the city and suddenly powers back up is silly too. Anyone who has even a basic understanding of energy and electricity knows that's not how it works. The energy used to power the city is simply electrons flowing through a circuit, it's only there for an instant. You can't exactly drain that and then suddenly get a massive reserve of power. What would of made more sense in the explanation is that the robot is continuously draining the power provided to the city from local power plants. And even then that is really not that much energy when your talking about providing enough power for a robot that is 500m tall and probably weights millions of tons to move(accelerate) as quickly as it does. I seriously doubt a couple thousand megawatts is going to be able to move that amount of mass that quickly. But in any case that's not how it's described or presented as the power is transferred to it in one burst.

Additionally the 'they created the Zearth program that leads to their own doom' storyline is a wholly unnecessary addition to the plot. They tried way too hard to make things as bleak and horrible as possible. But it just reaches the point where those kinds of twists don't actually make things any worse then they already are, its just needlessly over complicating the plot.

Well said, though Machi did leave out the tidbit about the Zearth program they were researching being a life force draining one. Just a small detail.

Couldn't agree more honestly.. early on I thought they had a good balance but now it's just nonstop misery to the point where it's not even interesting anymore.
That's kinda cringe but I laughed

this whole zearth program not being able to uninstall and energy shit is just going to hurt my brain if i think about it, so i'm not even going to mention it.

but i will mention that i am extremely surprised that ushiro has stayed alive for this goddamn long. on the first episode, from his first sentence i decided that was my favorite character but i thought 100% he would die early or midway through. and yet he somehow became the most central pilot??? if he can make it to the last episode... actually. i just want him to sacrifice kana and live on. but that's not going to happen is it, so eh. at least i've gotten more than what i expected from a abusive, foul, four-eyed kid.
