Will you still actively watch anime if every illegal source of anime was shut down?

I would pay for official streaming. I wouldn't pay 200bux to buy one complete set of a 12 episode anime unless I really liked it. If I had the money to buy a physical copy of every anime I watched, I would be a millionaire.

Nope. I'm barely able to keep my interest going while it's free, and I'm not exactly made of money either, being a poor college student and all. I'd rather just make a full transition to visual novels/light novels/JRPGs instead.

You say that as if there aren't free legitimate sources...

I think the word you're looking for is "legitimate/illegitimate" or (more dubiously) "ethical/unethical", since legality varies from country to country. Making certain sources illegal in one country doesn't mean they are in another. That is, shutting down sources based in certain countries is rather unlikely even if it did become illegal (and was enforced) in your own country.

Nitpicking aside, if legitimate sources were the only sources available, yes, I'd probably still watch anime. There's a lot available on legit streaming sites. It would be sad to lose all of the series that aren't officially licensed for overseas release, though.

TPP will make it illegal worldwide or at least the nations effected due to international law status.

"Free legitimate sources" tend to give a shitty experience compared to what illegal sources provide though.

OT: I'd probably quit. Video games are outright more entertaining than anime for me and the legitimate services that provide anime are crappy as hell.

Crunchyroll? Maybe for seasonal anime, but if you're going any more than five years back you're pretty much out of luck. The only other site I can think of is Funimation's streaming service, but their selection is also really limited.

I'd be okay with paying five bucks a month to watch any anime I want, but if I had to drop $50+ a series for the physical box it's just not happening. I doubt I'd watch even ten anime a year at that price.

I'd stick with games most likely, having to pay for two rather expensive hobbies will kill my beloved money.

Really? Most illegal streaming services from what i've seen are full of crappy translations and are low quality.

OT: I watch most of my stuff legally so it wouldn't affect me much, there is plenty to watch through crunchyroll, hulu, netflix, and funimation... funimation even streams most of their stuff on youtube.

Well I'll watch whatever is on Crunchyroll for free. They have at least like 3 shows every season that I would watch. Not that bad.
And if region blocks go away someday,I would consider getting a subscription to some sites.

That doesn't work in Germany. Something like "free streaming" doesn't exist here.

Yes. I will get people to record it from Hong Kong, and bring it back when they visit.
Will still cost me nothing

Guess I could still watch ad-free from Crunchyroll, but it would suck because then I can't watch most of the older anime classics.
Memories may fade, but that doesn't mean there isn't any point in making them.
