Seriously, sometimes drama in this series is... heavy. The story from this episode could be used in some horror. Not that it's a bad thing.

Great story and great ending! Chika really is an interesting person, I hope a couple of the remaining episodes revolve around her.
In fact.. she might be the only person in the family who could make a spin-off work.

Very nice drama episode for a change, I still wanted to see what happens with the whole affair between Chika and her older sister, but I think they will show that in a later episode.

From the few screenshots Ive seen from next episode, I think it'll go back into the normal crazy-ass humor we're used to.

Finally got it downloaded! Took some time at 30k/s WTF seriously...got to change damn provider! I am surprised you found it interesting Cyruz but I understand your point. This episode is most likely the best in terms of explaining Chika's past.

Now we know her past very well. She seems to have almost as much misery as Yuuka so both of them seem to have suffered though Yuuka is much younger. No kidding Chika understand Yuuka more.

About Vitamin C-----> Victim of Raishou DEMONIC EXPERIMENTS? Seems like it unless someone else like Dr Gebock experimented on him.

So the family is PIECE OS SHIT ASS black market Plutocratic world power. Hmmmmm, abuse seems common in this family.....well Dah since the game is played in those rules no one cares about no one. Should you kill the whole family no one will care since you wiil have all the power. Pretty STUPID FAMILY.

Nice fight from Chika....Good MONSTER BASHING!

Next episode Xmas special???? Sounds like Yuuka and Chika Santa fanservice. LOL

It was pretty cool.

I didn't understand one thing, though.

After Chika has faced down her traumatic memory, Vitamin C tablets fall and are noticed by other people -- the classmates even flinch as they get hit. Is this meant to be the illusion-power of the little monster manifesting an alternate illusion? That's the only explanation I could come up with.

It's also very much like an art film, in that they throw a hard-to-explain event in there and let the viewer try to figure it out.

This show likes to toss in random unexplainable things. Don't think to hard about it or your head will explode XD.

Err wait so what was that thing that Chika owned..?
It was an illusion right?
So it was Hi-chan's dad that created it?
Ouch my head hurts...

The thing was created out of random or at the very least forced upon experiences due to being captive and a prisoner. NO ILLUSION just sporadic mutation.

WE DO NOT KNOW who created it exactly there is not specification I think it's Raishou and on of her crazy experiences.

SO ATTENTION this nothing more than a sporadic or forced mutation upon a prisoner. This is the same thing as seeing what gases kill people in WW2. He was forced.

Felt like i was watching higurashi all over again..not that i was complaining about it.

Kindness can easily be misinterpreted under the wrong atmosphere (either that or the older sister really was plotting some 'horrible' on Chika).

I was kind of confused whether the monster was really a mutated prisoner or Chika's imagination exaggerating a normal prisoner into a monster.

But that hamster bringing Vitamin C back was a surprise.

Hi-chan's dad AKA the escaped prisoner was the "monster" vitiman C from the past which the hamster thing caused to appear, through Hi-chan.

Is what I understood that to be...

=O That scene disturbed me a little, and wouldn't her classmates be thinking "WTH? You going psycho?"
And I don't get the ending >< Hi-chan's father looking like the prisoner, what's that supposed to mean?
But still, a good episode I think, younger version of Chika is so cute and evil lol...
Looking forward to the next episode, I want Chika fan service! =D

Don't feel sorry the thing was not human...right? Sure it can try to be but never it will and you that cause of its mutation.

She was bashing it with a nail bat she borrowed from one of them, and at least one of them - maybe two? - has ties to the Japanese mafia. I don't think they're exactly going to see that the same way as, say, -normal- people. :|

They explained at the end of the episode that the "monster" was never really a monster to begin with just an escaped prisoner. Chika was raised in a horrific household by people who were considered "oni" so she saw everyone as being a monster enough to think that her sister being the only kind one was plotting against her secretly. When she found the prisoner she basically fed him and kept him like a pet and in return wanted him to kill her sister.

no mutations no Dr. Gebok just a crazed little girl's perception of a situation. That's how she saw vitamin C in her mind/nightmare so that how the hamster manifested it.

or atleast thats how i saw it... yea this show is pretty great

newayz the prisoner turned out t be Hi-chan's dad!!! cool...

That may be but there is not telling if they were hallucinations or not. I think it is the mutation and a cliche of prisoners having no escape subjected to experience. It's been used 100s of times in movies. The thing is that I find this series uses it well.

I thought for a second I was watching Higurashi. That was totally a Higurashi reaction by Chika...

A pretty epic and good episode. It looks random, but it's very deep and dark. Even a crazy anime like this can make a plot like that. That's what you call plot!!! Kyouran Kazoku Nikki is one of my best, really. XD

PS!
I also laughed many times whenever "Vitamin C" is said. Wahaha! There are many words and many names that can be use, WHY VITAMIN C?! AHAHA!

CrAZY!!!

yup pretty much that's the explanation. the monster was a manifested nightmare. a nightmare that chika thought was a cowardly monster but actually an escaped prisoner. simple enough :P

good ep though. a dark one, but good nonetheless

I remembered a monster named Vitamin C but had forgot which anime and when I googled it I encountered the Stand of Tamaki Damo instead... https://jojo.fandom.com/wiki/Vitamin_C

Luckily some more searching reminded me it was Kyouran
