Just realized I could watch youtube on my 360! Anyone know or have had any success in finding anime on youtube to stream through the 360???

This will take my laziness to the next level

Hmmm. Never done it on the 360, though I have on the Wii. It was a bit awkward... involved a lot of scrolling and irritating single-character capabilities. :|

I've recently discovered I could watch Youtube on my Wii as well. It's nice to see things in big screen, but there are two main problems. One: the subtitles are generally too small to be seen (maybe it's just my Wii). Two: the shitty video resolution (particularly if it's 360p or below) really shows.

I prefer watching on my laptop.

Thanks, person who gave me this on another site a long time ago, lol.

It can be alright for dub watching but subs are a bit tricky.
And yeah most of the anime from funimation is restricted :(

Do you need an XBL gold account to use the Youtube function (I only have the basic membership)? I just play my actual anime DVDs in my 360, both dub and original with readable subtitles.

I can watch AVI on my PS3, so it's not surprising to me that you can do that sort of thing with a 360 or a Wii. Heck, I can watch youtube vids on my cellphone.

Yeah I usually watch HD anime on my PS3. I've heard the 360 is really restricted in what video files it can play though, is that true? Never tried on the Wii either.

You should try to watch it on dailymotion instead of youtube.

360 can play most video files, but it doesn't support separate subtitle or audio streams. So unless it has the subtitles burned into the video stream, then you're stuck with the first audio track and no subs.

At least, that's how it was when I tried it.

yea it restricts pretty much nothing. and by nothing i mean everything, funimation included. so there's really nothing you can watch except for some AMVs... dailymotion really didn't have much when i checked, then again this was at 2am after 2-3 hours of searching for the possibility of non-restricted vids from youtube, so if anyone found anything on dailymotion, let me know.

also, i'm an xbox fanboy, not gonna lie... i hate the fact the ps3 has the interwebs and access to... a lot more DX

So the PS3 can play soft subs but the 360 can't? Is that what you're saying? If so, more reason to watch anime on my PS3!

For anyone trying to play softsubbed mkv files on their console, just use the program Handbrake to turn it into a hardsubbed high definition mp4. At least that's what I do. I do that to also watch anime on the go with my $100 Cinepal 8' video player. Very high quality.

I used to do that so I could burn DVDs with stylized subtitles, but using Handbrake on each episode takes way too much time and effort.

Hm? What do you mean? All it takes is to make sure the subtitle is implemented, then add it to the queue. I'll just take 30 minutes doing that, go to sleep and by the time I wake up I'll have a month's worth of series ready steady and good to go.

You could just use Netflix. Most Funmiation things have their shows on Netflix. You can't watch anything Bandai, though.

Don't you have to pay to use Netflix? With so many free streaming sites it makes little sense to pay for streaming when you can get it for free.

Only residents in the US can use Netflix, afaik.

XBox 360 will also convert PAL to NTSC, which means you could watch European DVD's on an American TV as long as the DVD is region 0 or your XBox is modified to play all region DVD's.
This is good to know because there are a few good anime that have been released in Europe (notably the UK), but NOT in America.

If you put custom firmware on the Wii, though, you can not only enable DVD playback on the Wii, but you can manipulate the region playback as well, although I don't think it had PAL to NTSC. Japan is region 2 and NTSC, so the Wii is ideal for that.

You can change the PS3 DVD playback region as well, but it involves hacking into the system files and manually changing the region code, however an American PS3 will not convert PAL to NTSC.

Or you can just YouTube everything on the 360 or Wii.

The problem I have with XBOX is that I can obtain all the good games for the system...on my PC...with better picture quality. And to add insult to injury, I'm using a 360 controller to play all these games on my PC.

Don't prefer streaming. But samsung have released tv's that allow you to plug in usb devices, and can now play the HD MKV formats.

Won't it be easier to connect the tv to the computer?

I assume the quality of the 360 is better than that of PSN right? Since the PS3 you get free, and I hate their internet browser. :/

I often use both at the same time. And my computer couldnt handle dual monitors. (Using my TV and my normal)

Ok, I am going to try to atempt to convert animes Mkv formant to xbox playable format. The point is to plug and play to watch animes using the xbox 360 to the tv.
Using: WinAVI Converter and other programs.

If anyone has made any progress let me know. Since the last time I tried this the xbox has had some upgrades so I hope as far as ability to play videos has freed up.
