| After anime's golden age in the US during the Toonami/early Adult Swim years anime's popularity died down considerably in the United States. Fact. It will probably make some kind of comeback once the world markets become more favorable, but probably never to the point of making cosplay cafes a profitable enterprise in the US. Also what the guy above me said has a lot of truth too. |

| Well, there's already a Maid Cafe in California. Royal T. Cafe (Opened in 2007 and is still running today as far as I know), and it's seen some success . Nothing significant mind you, but it just proves that there is a market for such a thing. That being said, Royal T Cafe seems to fail to have any connection to the anime industry aside from being maids, more of a 'Stuff you'd see in Japan' type deal. If one opened up, and appealed to the anime fan in Cali, it might actually have a positive effect on the industry. Maybe not catering to fans exclusively, but even those who are just curious might support the cafe's endeavors. A "Nice place to visit and hang out" would have to be the goal. C'mon MAL, have a little hope for those of us not in Japan. | You can try other major California cities. Los Angeles has quite a sizable anime following with many good places to open up shop. San Francisco can work too. San Francisco is also a great location. Don't know much about that city though... other than it's pretty fancy compared to other Cali cities. |

| If you ever visit Las Vegas, there is one there. It's called Anime Ramen. It's new and when I walked past it, there was a maid with purple hair and cat ears serving someone. So many otakus that I know want to work there and/or visit there often to eat. o_o But honestly... I can't bring myself to go in there. LOL. |

| It is part cultural, part limitations of the participating nation. First off in Japan, the idea is cool to the guys. In the US most guys might indulge a cafe full of sexy cheerleaders, but they probably just want girls in shorts and skimpy tops that are clearly busty, hence restaurants called Hooters. In Japan the girls ARE generally cuter (and I don't care if that seems unfair, sorry ladies deal with it). And they seem to be good at looking 16 when they are really 26, which tends to give them a great amount of advantage over a Caucasian girl. So you get a lot of mileage in the whole deal. Anime is even not mainstream in Japan (regardless of how peculiar that sounds), but at least it is part of their culture, so overly cute girls in cute anime looking outfits serving over priced snacks is not impossible there. Over here, if you want to serve over priced beer, we tend to prefer girls walking around butt naked making out with a metal pole. Like I said, it is part culture. I went to a maid cafe at Anime North one year. Can of coke, small slice of hohum cake served by a cute girl in a maid outfit for several bucks, and I was not able to get a picture with just me and her. Had to settle for a group picture that I was not even allowed to take with my camera. To be honest, I thought it was a dumb way to ditch 5 bucks in the end, but my buddy and I went so we could laugh that we had done it. I'd rather have been served a REAL lunch menu, with prices you would get in a REAL cafe, served by a girl in a cute outfit, that could permit a picture of me and her at the table in a harmless pose and not be expected to move along in under 5 minutes. Otherwise, I'd rather not bother at all. Never been to one in Japan, so I can't comment on how they are run there on home turf. I never go to strip clubs so I can watch average looking bored mature aged women get undressed while I drink a beer that cost me twice what it should for a reason. Frankly it's not worth it. |

| I'd so go for the lolz. I'd take friends that didn't even watch anime because I think it'd be an amusing group experience, also... I couldn't handle going on my own. I may watch anime, but I would be uncomfortable/perturbed having a girl in a neko costume saying ~nya at the end of her sentences serving me if I were alone. |

| Actually going to Japan was a real eye opener when it came to Cosplay cafes. Because they basically don't exist, every single one is a Maid cafe, there are no other actual kinds. After a week of semi-detached searching I found a Lucky Star one outside of Tokyo, but my friend wouldn't cough up for train fare and we never went to one despite me being stoked about the idea before going. And Akihabara bridge was deserted by the cosplayers when I went as well. |
