Lately I've been in the mood for some Metal Gear. I'm a huge fan of the series. Played all of the canonical games, remakes, spin-offs, etc. However, I recently decided to start replaying some of the games. Yesterday I finished a replay of my favorite MGS title, Sons of Liberty, and now I'm about to fight the last boss in the original Metal Gear Solid.

After this I'm hitting up MGS4 because I'm in the mood for movies.

Tell me users of MAL, what is your favorite Metal Gear title? Your favorite character? Your favorite moment? Let's have ourselves a classy MGS thread, shall we?

My favorite character would have to be Raiden. (Yes, I liked him when he was initially introduced back in the release of MGS2. Get off Snake's dick. Snake is a great character, we all know this, so let's try to avoid bringing up the typical hate some MGS fans pour out for MGS2 Raiden.)

My favorite scene? Boy, now there's a tough one. I can't really seem to choose because there are so many scenes/moments that I love in the franchise. I guess for now, I'll go with the ending cut scene in MGS4 Act 3. (For those that don't remember, see the video below. It'll refresh your memory. It's just a small part of the entire cut scene though.)

I like Raiden too. In his MGS2 form.

My favorite character and scene are probably Solid Snake and the ending of MGS3. Favorite game? I don't know. I find the first three almost equally good. But I'd say MGS3 has the best controls, replay value and level design.

I've yet to play any of the PSP games.

Avoid playing the Ac!d games. They aren't canon.

If you're interested in playing any of the PSP games, start with Portable Ops and then Peace Walker. Both very fun games, in my opinion.

Also, just finished my playthrough of MGS1. Gonna start MGS4 right now.

I was going to get the HD anniversary edition but then I decided not to.

I want to play MGS4 though, but can't right now.

Metal Gear is nothing short of legendary. Personally my favourite was Peace Walker.
Not to mention, who doesn't like Big Boss?

The most touching moment, in my opinion, was the death of Sniper Wolf in the very first game. The song 'Enclosure' fit the scene well.

I'll probably get the collection for Peace Walker, eventually. I hear it plays better on PS3.

Mgs 2 is my favorite.

I really disliked the ending of 4 tbh.

Raiden on MGS4 was pretty cool...

I've never played the games myself, but I saw a majority of MGS4 and some of MGS2.

My favorite game of series is Metal Gear Solid: Solid Snake for PS1.
Favorite character? Hard to say, maybe sniper wolf. My favorite moment is death of sniper wolf, that was very touching scene.

Oh god that scene. I played through it yesterday and I think a manly tear rolled down my cheek.

Otacon sure had a tough life.

Hey i'm thinking about picking up MSG4. I haven't played any of the other games but i was told it was very similar to Deus Ex, which i really enjoyed.
I guess i can't expect anything else than you telling me to go for it. I'm just wondering if i'll get to enjoy it to the full(story wise) even if i haven't played any of the other.
Thoughts?

Ocelot is easily the best character. How can you not be a fan of revolvers and button-mashing torture sessions?

I think I liked MGS3 the most. 1 was of course a classic. Two was good, but I got bored of the plant and bomb diffusion. Four wrapped things up nicely.

You could pick up MGS4 if you haven't played the other games but you probably won't understand some terms and some of the character developments in the game because they all have ties with the previous titles. (MGS1 & 2) It would be best to play the original and then Metal Gear Solid 2 to understand better the plot as a whole, as it could help you understand better why MGS4 is regarded as a very good end for Solid Snake's series.

I'd recommend at least playing the first 3 MGS games to get the most out of four, if that is an option. You'll get to play some great games, so I think you'd certainly win out in the end.

MGS is easily my favorite video game series btw.

Ahh, the MGS series. I've been a huge fan of the series since the first game came out. My favorite game in the series is definitely MGS3. I've beaten that game over 40 times. No joke. Favorite character...Revolver Ocelot. Or Solid Snake. They're both legendary, imo.

I've played all of the games, except for the spin-offs and the PSP titles. Definitely looking forward to playing the HD Collection when I finish Saints Row: the Third and Skyward Sword. I have a MGS4 game to complete as well...13th playthrough, first on The Boss Extreme. I'm stuck on the beginning of the fifth act. Such a pain in the arse.

Don't hesitate to play Peace Walker though. It's a great, fully-fledged title in it's own right.

It's included in the HD Collection for PS3. Buy that and you'll also get MGS2 and Snake Eater. Win/win.

Also, just finished my MGS4 run. Such a good movie. My body needs Metal Gear Rising now.

I'm going to start Snake Eater tomorrow.

It's the same game. The only difference as far as I can tell is the 3D camera, which - depending on his preference - might not be an improvement. Except for the two MSX games, most of the extras of the original Subsistence aren't included in the HD collection.

Good point, but the 3D camera does make it somewhat easier to play.
Onto a different story. Extra Ops 111= S rank on first try. My M47 is currently at 51% development. Gamebreaking weapon, here I come!
