THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.
----------------------------------------
The last episode of the TV series. General Zannin (ep.14), General Muzan (ep.25) and Marshal Lacock (ep.35) were strong enemies. But, of course, the strongest enemy appears in this episode. The fight between "the devil who has the miraculous power and the name of the God" and "the devil who has the mind of the human race" begins. Devilman makes up his mind to fight with God to protect the heroine. Crying painfully, he transfigures into real himself - the devil - with Brahms' symphony no.1 1st movement for the background.

As the show is a classic aired in 1972, it's stale. However it's emotional in every aspect; picture, voice, sounds and so on. The early 1970s was the time when things were hot.

I rather liked the last battle, setting it to Brahm's 1st was a good idea (and I also appreciated the Beethoven's 5th at the beginning of this episode!)

I don't think this was overall a very great work, though I've heard the manga it's based on is fantastic. It was usually enjoyable, but it was also quite childish and had poor animation (compare it to Cutey Honey for example).

I get that Miki not believing the truth about Devilman represents her trust in him which is meaningful despite her being factually wrong...but this story is just not dealing with the fact that Devilman murdered Akira Fudo and is wearing his corpse like a suit.

Well, Devilman has never been bothered by it and no one else knows so it makes sense, really, but it's a pretty anti-hero kind of thing to be in a series that plays the "hero of justice" thing pretty straight after a few episodes of Devilman not wanting to bother with other demons.

Worse than the manga and worse than other Go Nagai anime I've seen (Mazinger Z).

A somewhat disapponting finale, but the series was a lot better than I expected. It was nonsensical and super freaky at times, but had great humor and was overall good fun.

Does anybody else think Devilman looks like Blippi or vice-versa, or is it just me?

made it through, I'm gonna leave my thoughts on the entire series here, although the finale episode itself was okay/passable.

it does have some charm and redeeming qualities, but I don't believe this series has aged well at all.

Miki (and the kid to a lesser extent) some of the most insufferable characters I've ever encountered in anime.

The animation can look painfully bad at times, but overall the art style looks great, this design of Devilman is iconic too.

All that said I'm excited to get to some other Devilman stuff I'm likely to enjoy more, just wanted to watch this one first. Can't say I'd recommend this iteration to many people, even people as insane as me.

The irony is that the plotting here is generally more adequate and even harsher than the original -
- However, the rest of the series, up to the Demon Horde's attempt to wipe out humanity, is just plotless, childish nonsense.

The low rating for this anime is so incredibly forced. Sure if you compare it to the manga or even crybaby it's not at all what it's supposed to be but that's why I think you should separate it from the original work and think of it as a standalone series. And if you do that it's great. The animation is incredibly well done for a show from 1972 and the music is genuinely fantastic specifically the OP and ED. Not to mention the cast is very loveable. Tare and Miyo is such a cute couple. Lala was a great addition before her death. And of course Pochi (The Principal) and Alphonse Louis Steinbeck III (The Teacher) were absolutely hilarious. (I wish they were on MAL so I could favorite them). Overall Devilman is a great series and absolutely enjoyable. It's sad to see them teasing a future installment in the last episode as we clearly never got it. 8/10.

This show went from dark at the start, to downright goofy for the middle and average at the end. I hate no resolution endings.

I get its old, I didn't hate it but didn't like it much either so 5/10.
